You have to setup sms-service, read the userguide

Re: Nokia 6230 as virtual smsc

2007-06-12 Thread Richard Asiimwe

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses.
1. ~#dmesg | tty returns nothing. Further when i do ~#dmesg : it doesn't
show which device it was attached to.
2. when i used ~#hwinfo modems : the 6230 is listed as one of the modems and
it shows that it is attached to /dev/ttyACM0. However, the device file
doesn't exist.
3. So i created the device file using ~#mknod /dev/ttyACM0 c 166 0 and
changed my device setting to this newly created device.
4. however, when i started bearerbox and smsbox, it panics and says
AT2[/dev/ttyACM0]: file not found. ERRNO=6

what could i be missing?

Hi,
If your SuSE can not read the device then you need to do this:
#mknod /dev/ttyUSBn c 188 n, substitute n with the port number eq.: #mknod
/dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0
But if the problem is your kannel configuration then you only need to read
again the documentation.

Subject: Nokia 6230 as virtual smsc

 Hi,
I'd like to configure a nokia 6230 as a virtual smsc. I'm using SuSE
10.0 and connecting using a USB DKU-2/3 cable. Everything seems to be
ok except that whilst lsusb shows that a nokia 6230 is connected to
say bus 2 device 2, i cannot figure out what device name suse 10 has
 assigned to the device.
when i looked for /dev/ttyUSB* or /dev/ttyACM* no such device or file
was found and indeed using any of them in the smsc configuration's
device directive throws kannel into a panic.
Does any one know how i can identify the correct device to use?
 Thanks,
 Richard.

2007-06-12 Thread sangprabv
Hi,
1. Get some trial with minicom to make sure your SuSE is connected to the phone
2. if it is really connected to /dev/ttyUSBn then of course you must edit your
configuration to fit it.
3. Maybe you need to paste your configuration here

it shows that it is attached to /dev/ttyACM0. However, the device file doesn't
exist.

 Thanks,
 Richard.

Re: Nokia 6230 and Kannel ?

2005-05-31 Thread Jonathan Houser

  Nicolas,

Im using Kannel and mbuni to provide access to WAP and MMS. It works
fine for every phones Ive tested except for the nokia 6230. If I want
to access to the internet, I have to configure it to connect directly on
the HTTP proxy (squid) instead of Kannel. Ive configured Kannel to use
 this proxy though.

Moreover, in the phone specs its written that it supports WAP 1.2.1 and
2.0, so I dont understand why it doesnt work with kannel.

There's different parts to the WAP specs regarding the versioning.
Namely there's the transport type (WAP or HTTP) and then the language
constructs (ie. WML only or WML and XHTML and so on). A WAP 2.0 phone
*does* have the option of supporting both transport stacks, but I doubt
any do. If it connects to and works with your HTTP proxy, then it's an
HTTP stack. You're going to see less and less new phones supporting the
WAP stack anyway, so you might as well get working on the next gen
configurations (ie. how you want to route the traffic, etc.).
