Running docker images crashing F25?

2016-09-16 Thread Philip Rhoades

People,

I couldn't find a specific docker Fedora list so I am posting here -
feel free to tell me a more appropriate list . .

I decided to live on the edge and did a bare-metal install of F25 x86_64
a little while ago - it has been going pretty smoothly but in the last
few days I have been playing around with docker again (specifically:
cprogrammer/indimail:fedora-23 ie a qmail server) and I have had a few
spontaneous reboots - one that locked up at a BIOS splash screen.

Is this something I should be helping to debug somehow? I just did a
full "dnf update" before the last couple of crashes . .

Thanks,

Phil.

Thanks for that.

I'm still coming to grips with dnf syntax

Your suggestion gives:

dnf repoquery --whatprovides libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0
Last metadata expiration check: 1:56:03 ago on Sat Sep 17 09:01:33 2016.
gdk-pixbuf2-xlib-0:2.32.1-1.fc23.i686
gdk-pixbuf2-xlib-0:2.32.3-1.fc23.i686

Also,

dnf provides libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0

gives

Last metadata expiration check: 1:58:14 ago on Sat Sep 17 09:01:33 2016.
gdk-pixbuf2-xlib-2.32.3-1.fc23.i686 : Additional library for using gdk-pixbuf
with bare xlib

Repo: @System

gdk-pixbuf2-xlib-2.32.3-1.fc23.i686 : Additional library for using gdk-pixbuf
with bare xlib

Repo: updates

gdk-pixbuf2-xlib-2.32.1-1.fc23.i686 : Additional library for using gdk-pixbuf
with bare xlib

Repo: fedora

I had omitted the trailing -2.0.so.0 so fund nothing.

acroread now works again;-))

Btw, you can find that by using
dnf repoquery --whatprovides libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0

That might tell you the 32-bit or 64-bit version, but you can install

The problem being reported (and which I have also seen) is not with
IMAP but with CalDav. Google rate-limits queries to their CalDav
service and for some reason Evolution is exceeding the limit. See https

May just be coincidence, or maybe...

A couple of days ago you were advised to enable "akmods-
shutdown.service". I stopped using that one since I noticed a "stop
job" slowdown with it.

For myself I just keep:

akmods.service

Actually, I'm pretty happy with systemd h/t To think of the
hours I used to spend finding out about daemons I never used
and what they were for, setting them all up to either run or
not run, etc... Sure, I suppose I learned a lot about the
system, but I like that systemd just does it all for me and I
don't need to waste my time on pointless tasks that a modern
OS should be able to deal with on its own.

My old computers were afflicted with pesky stop job problem,
too. I'm not sure if it is on my new one? I didn't realize
that it was only on reboots and not shutdowns: perhaps that's
why I haven't seen it lately? Or could it be fixed :-O

I dealt with it by making an espresso and then it was timed
out. They go for 1'30". But, yes, it is frustrating when
working on something and having to wait for the timeout.

Google is actively trying to discourage IMAP use. I have heard reports that
they deliberately have it fail randomly to aid in this.

We have also seen the daily limit problem. In one case, we could find no
reason why this was happening to one of our users, and it kept up for a
couple of days before it stopped happening without us or the user having
done a thing. In another case, the user did have an Android phone enabled
to access the Google account via IMAP, and when she turned that off, the
limit issue went away. (On phones, there is really no reason to use an IMAP
client, since there are Gmail-specific apps that generally work quite well).

Assuming the module is packaged, you can do, for example:
dnf install 'perl(Unix::Syslog)'
If the module is not packaged, you can use 'cpanspec' to generate rpms
that you can install. I used that extensively for a library system I
installed. Some of the spec files I had to edit a bit before they would
work and you have to package the dependencies first, but I managed to
package all the requirements successfully.

When a similar thing happened after the F22, I did load/reload some modules
via CPAN and that fixed that.

I have since discovered that modules can be installed using dnf (though this
is pretty well disguised) and tried that just now.

A combination of that and renaming .so files in the /usr/local/ tree seems to
haver fixed the immediate issue but leaves the potential for it to happen
again next time.

I take it from your comment that CPAN puts things into /usr/local.
Can I just blow away all things PERL in /usr/local and then install any
