I was typing up a document on your word program and suddenly without my
realization of deleting the text, it all disappeared.

It's too late now (I'm guessing) but if this sort of thing happens
again, try pressing (and holding) Ctrl and then Z to undo whatever
caused the problem.

That also happened to me once not too long ago. Is Ctrl Z the keyboard
shortcut for Undo? If so, I doubt it will work. When it happened to
me, I clicked on the Edit menu and instead of Undo, it said Can't Undo
and it was greyed out. I had to re-key the entire document.
Fortunately, it hasn't happened again... yet.

Attachments are not allowed on the mailing list, so we do not know what the
error message is.

Taking a guess that the original poster is using Windows, a common message is
to "close any running version of OpenOffice"; this occurs of the Quickstarter
is running, closure of which is often overlooked by the user. If this is the
case, start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill all "soffice" processes shown
on TM's Processes (or in Win10, its Details tab). Exit TaskManager and then
try to install the new version of OpenOffice again. Note the leading s in
"soffice" for the name of the processes to kill

Re: Kann nicht drucken

2016-01-20 Thread Matthias Engel

Matthias Engel

Having OpenOffice not Running (was RE: Update problem)

2016-01-20 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
So long as OpenOffice is still installed on Windows, problems with
installations because AOO is running, even though not evident, are a bit easier
to handle within AOO itself, rather than the user needing to understand how to
use the Windows Task Manager without fear. Here's a procedure that may be a
bit easier for all users:

 1. Open Apache OpenOffice.
No need to open a document, just start OpenOffice and get the "dashboard"
view that offers the different applications.
(This is the plain OpenOffice entry in the PCs all-programs list, rather
than OpenOffice Writer, Calc, ... .)
Alternatively, you can open a document if that is how you normally get into
OpenOffice. It won't be used for anything.

 2. On the Menu Bar along the top of the opened Window, click Tools > Options
to get the Options - OpenOffice dialog.

 3. On the sidebar, click "Memory" under the OpenOffice entry.

 4. On the Options - OpenOffice - Memory dialog, remove any checkmark under
"OpenOffice Quickstarter, Load OpenOffice during system start-up."

 5. Click OK

 6. Close OpenOffice.

 7. Restart your computer.

Your computer should now work a bit more smoothly when you aren't working in
OpenOffice. When you are, the first startup may take slightly longer than
usual. Many will not see any difference at all, especially on recent hardware
and operating systems.

Updating should now be much easier all of the time, as will other situations
blocked by OpenOffice running in the background.

clac rows as footer

2016-01-20 Thread Keith Bainbridge

Good morning All

It's been a while.

I am trying to use 4 rows on a calc sheet as a footer, in addition to a
header row. Can only see how to use rows as a header.

Any hints please?

Thanks
