I rarely print envelopes, but on my printer, I usually just print landscape and
manually feed an envelope. I do use the mechanism to feed an envelope. The
problem with that, however, is that some feed the envelope in the middle and
some on the right or left side. So I expect this to take some experimentation.
What I did, was to feed a regular sheet of paper and then I checked to see
where it printed with respect to the envelope so that I could refine margins
(and similar). So now I can print individual envelopes when I want to. I just
pull up my "template" and off I go.Not much help perhaps, but it is how I
solved it for my infrequent use.On Tuesday, March 07, 2023 17:39 EST, Shari

that I needed a Microsoft.com account. I contacted HP and was informed that in

Microsoft terms fine print and they get to collect ALL information, store it on
their cloud, and as such, THEY own it. All in the name of an "enhanced user

or their Microsoft.com account. Does Apache Open Office require an online

that readers are not misled by this suggestion. Like all sensible applications,
OpenOffice saves document files only when the user asks for this to happen -
using Save or Save As or by selecting Save from the options provided when a
modified document is closed without having been saved. This is important, so
that a user may choose, after a period of editing, to abandon all changes and

information every ... Minutes has another purpose. If it is ticked, information
about the current editing session is salted away regularly - but separately
from the actual document file. This information is deleted automatically if a
session is terminated normally. Its purpose is instead to deal with program or
system crashes or power outages. In these circumstances an offer is made, when
OpenOffice is next started, to recover editing changes made in the aborted

Any ideas please? It seems that this happens if you are keeping your document in
a format foreign to OpenOffice and when AutoRecovery information is saved. Are
you saving in something other than OpenOffice's native .ods format - perhaps
.xls? That's generally not advisable. It seems that saving the AutoRecovery
information when your document is in a foreign format is described as
"exporting".If this is the problem, there appear to be a number of solutions:o
Provide the password each time it is asked for.o Remove the password protection
from the relevant items. (Probably not what you want to do.)o Disable
AutoRecovery. To do this, remove the tick from Tools | Options... | Load/Save |
General | Save | Save AutoRecovery information every xx Minutes. (Also probably
not a good idea.)o (Best) Save your document as .ods. Keep it in that form and
always edit that copy. If necessary for transmission to a correspondent, save a
copy in the foreign format each time you need to do this. This is good practice
anyway.At 15:40 21/10/2019 +0100, Alan Pearce wrote:>Typing into a cell, I was

Typing into a cell, I was modifying an old document. I didn't note wether it
was text or figures, it happened quite a few times over the last two days so I
am sure it was probably both , it could have been either. After cancelling
about three times each time it appeared it would go away. However in the end it
wouldn't stay away and it was not possible to work on it or save it. I got out
of the problem in the end by forcing a computer shutdown and then re-opening
via recovery. Although I would still like to know why.Regards,Alan.

every single time I open a document is very annoying as I use a lot of

too big. To make the whole window smaller allows the background to be a
distraction from the text I want to be looking at. Even if I open a document,
click single page, close it and open it again it goes back to being automatic

option is equally useful and for me, more so.Please tell me how I can do
this.Thank you,Samantha

Help! Need some advise.

I often print out narrative files I create and have no trouble.
However, I have a twenty-one page document, but only want to print selected
pages.

Can't get to work! For example, I only want to print pages one and two, but
later will
want to print pages three thru five, later pages six thru 8, etc.

How can I print selected pages? I know I can do it, but I'm doing something
wrong.

If you click the text box, you see the (flashing) outline and the
eight coloured handles. Is this called "object mode"? That's not what
you want. Double-click it and you will see instead just the (steady)
outline. Is this called "editing mode"? Now you can use Edit | Paste
or Ctrl+V (or Edit | Paste Special... or Ctrl+Shift+V). You can also
use right-click | Paste, but you need to right-click within or
immediately adjacent to existing text content. If you right-click in
the text box but away from existing text content, the box selection
will relax back to the other mode and you will not see Paste in the
context menu.

I trust this helps.

Hi ,

I have been using your Open Office 4.1.3 after a friend who works in IT
downloaded it for me. All was well until I used a free trial period on
Microsoft Word to read a document sent to me by someone. It as the only way to
read it. Then a few weeks ago all my documents suddenly converted to Word docs
and I can’t use them, alter them etc without paying a subscription. I have
contacted Microsoft who say they cannot help. even though as I pointed out
to them they have essentially stolen MY documents. It is outrageous. Is there
some way to change them back to Open Office?

Many thanks.

completing the list of nearly 4000 entries, I went to open it today and a

came up as # and nothing else. I failed to back it up after the

It's no secret! Providing that Tools | Options... | Load/Save |
General | Save | Save AutoRecovery information every ... Minutes is
ticked, OpenOffice regularly but quietly salts away information about
the current editing session. Normally, this information is purged
when the active document is closed. If OpenOffice fails for any
reason (hardware problem? software glitch? user malpractice?), the
saved information is not deleted. This is detected the next time
OpenOffice is started and the offer described above - to attempt
OpenOffice Document Recovery, here on the document file "2017DP
Consultation Response" - is made. If the recovery is successful, a
version of the document is presented and the user can decide whether
to save it instead of or as well as the original file - whatever
condition that is in. If the recovery is not successful, the offer
will be repeated each time OpenOffice is started. The solution in
this case is simple: to decline the recovery process once.

Strangely, the manuals suggest that this facility saves the current
state of documents over the originals - as if File | Save were being
used at regular intervals. But that is not the case (and would be
unhelpful anyway). The built-in help is somewhat clearer on the subject.

Hello

Is the Apache Open Office really free?

If things look to good to be true, they most likely are.

Will it work on Windows 10, ryzen 5 1400, 8 gig memory?

Compose your email in your mail client and select "attach", this should offer
you the File Manager dialogue box, select whatever it is you wish to attach and
away you go.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I did not make myself clear, I know there is no
e-mail app etc, I have two e-mail programs either one of which I would like to
use to send an OpenOffice document. What I need is the instruction on how to
make that happen. The OpenOffice site offers no help. Thanks PG

There is no email app for OpenOffice. You use whatever email app is
installed on your computer. Many people use Thunderbird.

When you have an email app installed, you can use it to send documents.

Re: Trouble with Calc

2017-05-15 Thread Alan Pearce
Hi Bill,
I had a similar problem with CSV i.e. with the apostrophie turning the numbers
to text. I simply downloaded the file again and it came in correctly without
the apostrophie and the numbers behaved as numbers, not text. I had never had
this pronlem before and I don't know what, if anything, I did differently.

Subject: Re: Trouble with Calc

Hello,
I have received helpful suggestions from Brian and Martin and very much
appreciate them. Thanks for the help and any additional notes that may
yet come in. I realize now my original message was not completely clear
because I did not fully understand my problem. As was suggested by both
my problem was due because the numbers in the .csv file were being
brought in as text not numbers.

One suggestion was to click the "Detect special numbers" option when
opening the file. I did try this and it didn't work.
It was suggested to use the function =VALUE(c2) in a new column in Calc
to convert the text to numbers. When I did this I got Err 502.
Then Brian suggested the problem could be due to leading blanks in the
field. This seems to be the real problem. If I remove the leading blanks
in Calc the text becomes numbers. Also if I remove the leading blanks
in the .csv file the fields will be input as numbers.

I would be impractical to remove leading blanks manually through out the
file. I know editor questions are not appropriate to this forum but FYI
I will mention what I have learned so far. Using OpenOffice Writer I see
that the fields start with a tab character. I am working on it but have
not found a way to find and replace the tab character in any of the
editors I have access to on my computer.

Still working on it. Thanks for the help.

Re: Multiplying Time by Numbers

Thanks Johnny.

On 19/03/2017 11:18, Johnny Rosenberg wrote:

When you enter time in a cell, enter it like hh:mm:ss (separator depends on
your language settings).
Examples:
0:0:9 → 00:00:09
0:9 → 00:09:00
9:0 → 09:00:00
1:13:3 → 01:13:03
12:4:56 → 12:04:56

the cell will format to hh:mm:ss automatically. Of course you can change
this. I guess h:mm would be what you're looking for. In that case, the
avove examples will display as:
0:00
0:09
9:00
1:13
12:04 (for some reason the result is not rounded up to 12:05, maybe that's
a bug, or maybe it's expected behaviour)

What's really in the cell is a floating point number less than 1. 1 means
24 hours, so 0.5 is 12:00:00, 0.75 is 18:00:00 and so on. To get it in
hours, just multiply with 24. Then you get something that you can multiply
directly with anything, such as your currency.

Here's an example
A1 → type 1:30
B1 → type 40 → format as currency
C1 → type =A1*24*B1 → formatting as currency will happen automatically.
Result: £60.

Simple as that…

I am trying to enter a case-specific text string into a Calc cell. The
string has both uppercase and lowercase and numerical characters. It
appears that Calc is remembering similar/previously entered strings and
forces those to appear within the cell, i.e., changing a lowercase to an
uppercase appearing as the first character, or changing a lowercase to
an uppercase where the character is not the first nor the last character
within the string. The format for the cell is "Text". Clearing cell's
all content and tried again; no go. Using the check mark with the
desired string display in the bar does not help me.

How can I disable the auto-complete feature for this effort?

What am I doing incorrectly ?

VinceB.
