Re: In Calc, can the horizontal and vertical scroll sections be enlarged?

2020-06-13 Thread Kay Schenk
Some success with the "theme" hint. I changed to Clearlooks from Adwaita
and ta!da! the horizontal and vertical scroll bars in Calc are wider and
clearer.  CentOS 7 default for themes right now is GTK 2. I'm Ok with
that for the time being.

I believe this "problem" has been brought up recently before. IIRC
That thread resolved the problem to the height of the horizontal
scroll bar on the bottom right, which is in the same horizontal
field of the window as the sheet tabs and as such, drives the height
of the tabs. This cannot be changed in AOO as it stands. The field
height may be changed by selecting another window style in the
desktop configuration. I did some experimenting with it and found a
window style that presented a higher (wider) scroll bar and which
did present larger tabs and font. I wasn't satisfied with other
attributes of that style, so I selected another style and now I
can't remember how I got the higher-tab style to go back to. So, the
short answer is to change desktop window manager window styles and
see if there is one that works better for you.

Something I discovered quite some time ago, if you don't mind creating
your own PDF "book". If you start here:

https://wiki.openoffice.org/

Click on the left navigation item: Create Book
(this will start the book creator)

Then you can go to Documentation, and from there add sections from the
new User Guide:

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/UserGuide

When you're done, you can view your "book", download as PDF, etc.

Let us know if this works for you or not.

Suggest contacting the extension developer, dnaber, in some way. There may

Hi again. It's likely in this case that our download site would recognize
Windows as the operating system, and present you with the right version for
your tablet. If not, you could manually choose a Windows download option
from our download site and see if that works for you. You might also need
to find a 32-bit Java to use.

Once you get your tablet, please let us know how this worked for you.

Good luck.

Apache OpenOffice is not currently supported on tablets. However, there

There may be other versions/ports available that we are not aware of as

This sounds like a setup problem with TurboTax and/or your
system default applications. I don't use TurboTax but I'm
guessing you can probably open your tax data with 4.1.2. Can
you check your import settings for TurboTax and see if maybe
OpenOffice 4.0.0 is hardcoded there or something of that
nature. Or, you could have OpenOffice 4.0.0 specified as
your default spreadsheet program and that's the problem.

Please see our Installation Instructions for some guidance
on assigning default applications in Windows.

Re: Open Office Writer UTTER , UTTER Rubbish (or not)

2016-03-14 Thread Kay Schenk
Apache OpenOffice does indeed have a perfectly functional
spell checker. And, of course, we are aware of the problems
for some users/systems with the spell checker on upgrades.
We have recently had a patch submitted and tested to correct
this problem. See the following BZ entry:

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126762

Hopefully, when 4.2 is released, the problem will be solved.

It would be a great help to us if you could open an issue on
Bugzilla -- https://bz.apache.org/ooo/

and provide details of your OS, etc. If being "admin" is NOT the
norm for installing OpenOffice on Windows, this obviously needs to
be fixed!

Thanks for helping by testing out this pre-release.

To my knowledge, (Apache) OpenOffice has not been either pre-installed or
part of the "standard" repositories for any Linux distribution for at least
3.5 - 4 years. Some of our volunteers have made it available through

This is just a tutorial table designed for a variety of users in different

the US. Once you save this table, you should be able to back into it using
the Tables icon and add whatever fields you like.

You have the capability to add many fields to this sample table.

Recommend that you should investigate what the Windows Fax server uses
for default document input type -- again maybe .doc, .odt, .pdf?

Once you know this, you will then need to investigate what document
format is generated by the medical record system. You say it generates
an OpenOffice document but in what format -- .odt? .doc? The document
type output will need to be compatible with what the FAX server wants as
input.

Many FAX servers are happy with either .doc or .pdf formats. The FAX
server could be generating or telling you it's sending .tif because it
doesn't recognize the input type and it defaults to sending an image
format if it can't determine input document type.

Are you trying to open or print directly FROM your e-mail without saving

If this is the case, it may be a configuration issue with your mailer.

Could you give a few more details?

What program are you using that works with OpenOffice3 but not 4? Mostly
just curious about this one. When we went to version 4, there were changes
to how extension must be constructed. Maybe the author of your program that
integrates with 3.x is not aware of this change.

This is what we have for uninstall instructions.

However, there are some forum posts which indicate if quick starter is

by

 this comment --
I use KDE; AOO only provides integration for GNOME.
 Could you elaborate?
What AOO desktop-integration bits do you install?

As the OP on the comment...

I installed AOO from the unofficial Debian Ports tree hosted on
SF.net[1].

There is a package in there called
openoffice-gnome-integration[1], which is provided by AOO; there
is no package openoffice-kde-integration - which is what my
comment was about.
So I have no mime-type integration aside from what I do manually;
nor do I have it on any menus in KDE4, so I have to run it via
KRunner and an explicit path to the soffice binaries[3].

Now, if openoffice-gnome-integration will do the above without
requiring GNOME to be installed, great - I haven't tried it as the
name suggests requiring GNOME which I don't have installed (Kubuntu
user).

If I'm missing something, then please point me in the right
direction.

I can certainly do that. Several of us using KDE have found that if
you install the freedesktop-menus... from the desktop-integration

+1 the package is openoffice-debian-menus, which is the Openoffice
desktop integration. This is on a Debian Wheezy system using the SF.net
repos, but using KDE 3, it works on multiple DE's though, just will not
  test Gnome KDE4

Great. Installed it, but it doesn't work with KDE4.
Hopefully the one for 4.0.1 for the freedesktop menu integration will.

 Ben

Ben --

You need to install the desktop-integration parts manually, after the main
install. Please see:

 http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html

This does not happen automagically. I can't tell by your response here
what you've done.

If you have installed some other desktop-integration piece for AOO, I
suggest you uninstall that, install the freedesktop-menus, get out of KDE
then back in, to see changes.

Please be aware that this effects main KDE/mime_type/application menu
integration only and not TOTAL KDE integration, e.g. kmail, etc.

I hope this helps.

Kay Schenk, I follow the AOO dev list see your posts.

Not sure what constitutes integration/support for AOO LO.

In the larger scheme of things -- integration for Linux is perhaps not
quite there. Right now we have good integration with mime-types for KDE (at
least 4.x) with the freedesktop-menu installation.

The concern I was originally asking about had to do with recognized
default mailer, and this is NOT automatically detected for Linux.

I use
Trinity desktop, the continuation of KDE 3.5.x branch. The lead dev
there has provided some kind of support for LO, mostly due to lack of
resources to do more and AOO is not in distros.

Are you aware of this code?
 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2012-May/031676.html

No, I am not. Nor had I even heard of Trinity before this.

I can certainly do that. Several of us using KDE have found that if you
install the freedesktop-menus... from the desktop-integration

you won't have to do any manual configuration of mime-types, as this will
take care of that.

It seems this little tip needs to be added to the Install Instructions as
well. hmmm...

And of course I'll be happy to help with testing of any KDE integration.

Well, there will be more to do in that regard, but this is first step. I
hope it helps.

There is also Akonadi which is the underlining resource manager for
KDE-PIM. Not sure to what degree of integration with KMail services is
dependable of it. I know in the past Sun people worked with Mozilla to
integrate some of the Calendar/Mail services with OpenOffice under the
 Lightning project.

 http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/3.0/#Calendar_and_Email_Client_.28Mozilla_Thunderbird_and_Lightning.29

Evolution is practically death, but both Kolab/Akonadi are very well alive

Gnome use gconf for their setting rules (API), I don't know the actual
name for KDE but I know there is one. This is a few layers above DBus/uDev,
but more on the Desktop environment level.

I also think that we need to take efforts to make OpenOffice finally deal
with media (for embedded objects). Sun never wanted to depend on DM
specific media frameworks like gstreamer, and preffered a very obsolete JMF
(Java Media Framework) which quite honestly never really worked as
expected. Freedesktop have some frameworks like Telepathy, and KDE has
 phonon to deal with media.

KDE deals greatly with OpenDocuments (not really AOO but helps) having an
internal rendering libraries for all things OpenDocuments natively.
 https://kenai.com/projects/kde-odf-thumbnail

A lot of useful information here. Oddly, now using AOO 4.0.1, RC3, and
configuring my e-mail manually, all is good. With the previous RC2 version,
I got into some dialog boxes that seemed to want to do some configuration,
but only got partially through that. Odd. And, it didn't work. But, today,
all is well. OK, I will look into this when I have a moment.
