[ovirt-users] Get Involved with the oVirt Project! Autumn 2016 Edition

2016-09-30 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,

Have you got some free time? Do you want to get involved in the oVirt
project?

Do you like the idea of having fresh disk images of your favorite
distribution in the oVirt Glance repository?

You can help by testing existing online images ensuring they work with
cloud-init,

or creating one yourself and report your success to de...@ovirt.org.

We'll be happy to upload the images once these are ready.

Do you like Debian? Do you have some programming or packaging skills?

Help getting Vdsm running on it! There is some on-going work [14
]
on inclusion of Vdsm into Debian.

We wish to test and fix Vdsm Debian packages to make them working before
the next Debian freeze.

You can find all current Debian work (Vdsm and related packages) in Debian
git repositories [10 ].

You can follow the progress and participate on oVirt development mailing
list [11 ].

Here are some bugs you can try to help with:

Are you great at packaging software? Do you prefer a distribution which is
currently unsupported by oVirt?

Do you want to have packages included in your preferred distribution? Help

I created a profile integration with my domain. All is working well.

Now I'm trying to configure single sign-on for portals based on Kerberos.

All settings are performed according to the manual:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.6/html/Administration_Guide/Configuring_LDAP_and_Kerberos_for_Single_Sign-on.html

Kerberos client tested and working. However, SSO is not working.

So if you run kinit and then:

 $ curl --negotiate -u : -X GET -H "Accept: application/xml" -k
https://fqdn/ovirt-engine/api

It's fine?

Please tell me how to find the cause of the problem. What are the steps to
troubleshooting to do?

On oVirt engine check:

 /var/log/httpd/ssl_error_log
 /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log

On AD check kerberos log.

SR-IOV should work (or general PCI passthrough), it’s then transparent to
oVirt. Did you not succeed with setting up SR-IOV or generic passthrough of the
HCA?

Well, at least for generic passthrough the PCI device would be detached from
the host so should not be recognized/touched by oVirt networking code at all.

2016-09-30 Thread Ondra Machacek

'/etc/httpd/s-oVirt-Krb.keytab' is apache keytab, you can't try to test
login with it. You should try something like `kinit myuser` and then
curl. And be sure that 'myuser' has appropriate permissions in oVirt.

Do you have properly setup your browser and enabled negotiation (for
example for firefox [1])?

that is a very low level error really pointing at HW issues. It may or may not
be detected by memtest…but I would give it a try

does it happen only for the big 96GB VM? The others which you said are working,
are they all small?
Might be worth trying other system stability tests, playing with safer/slower
settings in BIOS, use lower CPU cluster, etc

Hi,

if a OVirt snapshot is illegal we might have 2 situations.

1) qemu is still using it - lsof shows qemu access to the base raw and the

successfully solved that situation by setting the status of the delta image
in the database to OK.

2) qemu is no longer using it. lsof shows qemu access only to the the base

recognize.

How to clean up the 2nd situation?

It seems that you will have to first clean up the engine database to
remove references to the snapshot that no longer exists. Then you
will need to remove the unused qcow2 volume.

Unfortunately I cannot provide safe instructions for modifying the
database but maybe Ala Hino (added to CC:) will be able to help with
that.

One you have fixed the DB you should be able to delete the volume
using a vdsm verb on the SPM host:

# vdsClient -s 0 deleteVolume

Re: [ovirt-users] quick way to see total RAM and CPU count on VM listing

2016-09-30 Thread Nelson Lameiras
Alexander,

Thanks for your help.
Indeed, you are right! But only on the VM listing.

When on the "Hosts listing", in the tab below you can quickly see the running
VM (on that host), but you have no quick way to find the RAM/CPU information
(since there isn't a below "below tab")
This is specially annoying when we are trying to migrate VM between hosts, and
have no easy information on ressource usage of each VM.

I hope I do not come accross as rude, oVirt is a great peace of software and we
are mostly satisfied with it.
It's just sometimes frustrating to loose extra time to search this important
information

If you select a VM, it will open up the sub tabs at the bottom of the web
admin. On the general tab in the second column it will list defined memory,
guaranteed memory as well as cpu information.

if they died then HA VMs are going to be restarted as soon as engine comes up
But if you powered down those hosts/VMs they are cleanly shut down and won’t be
restarted

Hi Yaniv,

Just a reminder, can you give us a pointer? Red Hat Support just asked us
to disable PM before restarting vdsm again.

Thanks & Best regards,

 Hi Arik,

By "empty" you mean the webadmin reports the host being running 0
 VMs?
If so, that's not the case, actually the VM count seems to be
 correct
 in
relation to "qemu-*" processes (about 32 VMs), I can even see the
machines in the "Virtual machines" tab of the host, it's just they
 are
all marked with the '?' mark.

That indeed might be the factor - but vdsm should not take long to restart.
If it happens on a more recent version, I'd be happy to know about it, as
we've done work on ensuring that it restarts and answers quickly to the
engine (as far as I remember, even before it fully completed the restart).

[ovirt-users] ETL Service fails

2016-09-30 Thread Andy
Hello,
I just upgraded to OVIRT 4.04 on the hosted appliance and for some reason I no
longer see the DHW metrics on the dashboard. I receive a lot of errors,
obviously, stating "ETL Service has encountered an error, Please consult the
service log. The research that I have been able to come up with appears to be
with a FK or a user that no longer exists in the database, however the attached
logs have zero reference to these errors.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Andy

Hello,

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to add my Infiniband HCAs on my VM hosts to
oVirt 4.0.4. I am not using IBoIP, just plain Infiniband. I would like to be
able to pass through the card (or better yet the VF from SR-IOV) to the guest
VM.

SR-IOV should work (or general PCI passthrough), it’s then transparent to
oVirt. Did you not succeed with setting up SR-IOV or generic passthrough of the
HCA?
oVirt sees the HCA as SR-IOV capable and it sees the VFs, so I believe I
have set up SR-IOV correctly. I was able to do a generic passthrough of
the HCA, but I was not able to pass through the VFs to more than one VM
probably because they are all in the same IOMMU group. I first tried
following the oVirt 3.6 Deep Dive video on SR-IOV [1] but was stuck
because of the bridging problem.

From what I can figure out, oVirt is trying to bridge the interface but I
don't think that will work as shown here [1]. Does oVirt currently have support
for passing through Infiniband to VMs? If not, are there any plans to support
it?

Well, at least for generic passthrough the PCI device would be detached from
the host so should not be recognized/touched by oVirt networking code at all.

Thanks,
michal
