[ovirt-users] virtual machine actual size is not right

2018-03-21 Thread Terry hey
Dear all,

I would like to know the actual size that the virtual machine is used.
I found that there is a field to show "actual size". But the number is not
right.

I entered the server and type df -h.
The storage size of the server is about 30GB but the actual size field
shows 60 GB.

[ovirt-users] Any monitoring tool provided?

2018-03-21 Thread Terry hey
Dear all,

Now, we can just read how many storage used, cpu usage on ovirt dashboard.
But is there any monitoring tool for monitoring virtual machine time to
time?
If yes, could you guys give me the procedure?

[ovirt-users] Host down/activation loop

2018-03-21 Thread Jamie Lawrence
Hello,

Have an issue that feels sanlock related, but I can't get sorted with our
installation. This is 4.2.1, hosted engine. One of our hosts is stuck in a
loop. It:

 - gets a VDSM GetStatsVDS timeout, is marked as down,
 - throws a warning about not being fenced (because that's not enabled yet,
because of this problem).
 - and is set up Up about a minute later.

This repeats every 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

The hosted engine is running on the host that is stuck like this, and it
doesn't appear to get in the way of creating new VMs or other operations, but
obviously I can't use fencing, which is a big part of the point of running
Ovirt in the first place.

I tried setting global maintenance and running hosted-engine
--reinitialize-lockspace, which (a) took nearly exactly 2 minutes to run,
making me think something timed out, (b) exited with rc 0, and (c) didn't fix
the problem.

Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

-j

- - details - -

I still can't quite figure out how to interpret what sanlock says, but the -1s
look like wrongness.

What version of the guest agent do you have installed on RHEL 6.5?

I have tried different test with spice-vdagent, or ovirt-guest-agent or

I'm not sure how you'd get more throughout than you can get in a single
physical link. You will get redundancy.

Of course, on the storage side you might benefit from multiple bonded
interfaces.

Interesting - but I assume it'll still stick to a single physical link.

Is this a safe procedure? I mean i only have this host in my cluster, what will
happen at the vm's that are assigned to the host?

Thanks again

Then you need to remove the host from engine, change the IP manually on the
host, via ifcfg-file, restart network service and install the host again via
the new IP address.

To answer your question Michael , i'm trying to configure a different ip
outside of my dhcp pool. The dhcp ip is 10.0.0.245 from the range
10.0.0.245-10.0.0.250 and i want to configure the ip 10.0.0.9 as the hosts ip

"One thing to note if you are changing the IP to different one that was
assigned by DHCP you should uncheck "Verify connectivity between Host and
Engine""

Ales, i also tried to follow your advise and uncheck the "Verify connectivity
between Host and Engine" as proposed. Again the same results, it keeps
reverting to previous dhcp ip
I will extract the vdsm log and i'll get back to you, in the meanwhile this is
the error that i see after the assignment of the static ip in the log

One thing to note if you are changing the IP to different one that was assigned
by DHCP you should uncheck "Verify connectivity between Host and Engine". This
makes sure that the engine won't lost connectivity and in case of switching IP
it happens.

Great step by step instructions but something strange is happening while trying
to change to static ip. I tried to do the change while the host was in
maintenance mode and in activate mode but again after some minutes the system
reverts to the ip that dhcp is serving!

What am i missing here? Do you have any ideas?

Hello Zois,

It pretty easy to do, via the webadmin UI , go to Hosts main tab > Choose host
> go to 'Network Interfaces' sub tab > Press the 'Setup Host Networks' button >
press the pencil icon on your management network > and choose Static IP >
press OK and OK to approve the operation.

- Note that in some cases, specially if this is a SPM host you will loose
connectivity to host for few seconds and host may go to non-responsive state,
on a non-SPM host usually this woks without any specific issues.

- If the spoken host is a SPM host, I recommend to set it first to maintenance
mode, do the switch and then activate. For non-SPM host this will work fine as
well when the host is UP.

Cheers)

After performing the configuration of ovirt, that is, executing the

Re: [ovirt-users] Hosted engine deployment error

2018-03-21 Thread spfma . tech
Hi,
I made some progress : by allowing my NAS to map any user to admin (not the
best for security, but it is a dedicated infrastructure), this weird
permissions problem disappeared. Maybe a NFS bug somewhere ? I don't know. I
was able to redeploy a new hosted engine, and after a cleanup and some other
manual cleaning tasks, restore my latest backup. So the new engine vm is able
to startup, but it seems there is a problem for communicating with hosts. I
get a lot of errors like this one : vdsm[3008]: ERROR ssl handshake:
SSLError, address: :::10.100.1.100

10.100.1.100 is the IP of the engine vm.

vdsm.log is not more helpful :

2018-03-21 17:10:10,769+0100 ERROR (Reactor thread)
[ProtocolDetector.SSLHandshakeDispatcher] ssl handshake: SSLError, address:
:::10.100.1.100 (sslutils:258)

Is there something to update or generate after a restore ? I don't know whether
keys and certificates were kept or if new ones are now used.

I also tried to add the SSH public key showed in the GUI to the authorized_keys
on a node, even reboot, but no change.

2018-03-21 Thread Eduardo Mayoral
Thanks for your reply!

You are right. I tried with a CentOS 6 and a CentOS 7 guest and both
picked the extra memory with no problem.

Seems it was a particular issue with the guest that I tried first.
Kernel version was older and I had to activate the memory bank as
described in https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1012764 (different
hypervisor, but the principle is the same).

No, you're not. Now the vm is seeing the base memory (4GB) you were
seeing at boot, plus additional memory (2GB added). Next time you'll
boot the vm, the system will see a single block of 6 GB.

That's the difference.

[ovirt-users] Memory hot plug

2018-03-21 Thread Eduardo Mayoral
Hi,

I recently tried to hot plug some memory on a VM running CentOS 6.9
with ovirt-guest-tools installed.

    oVirt version is 4.2.1.6-1.el7.centos

I was careful to increment a multiple of 256 MB as specified in
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/virt/hot-plug-memory/
(4 GB -> 6 GB , maximum memory configured for the VM was 8 GB)

However the VM was marked as with a pending change for next reboot.
Am I missing some non-default configuration requiered for memory
hot-plug to work?

    Thanks in advance!

[ovirt-users] Fw: Change ovirtmgmt ip from dhcp to static in a

2018-03-21 Thread zois roupas
I'm sorry for not explaining correctly my question, i understand that i will
have to power them off and even if i tried with powered on vm's probably ovirt
whouldn't let me remove a host. What i couldn't understand was what happens
actually to the vm's that don't "reside" on a host but again if they are
powered down there is not really a problem if the host is added successfully
after the static ip configuration

Thanks for everyone's help , i will try to follow your suggestion and there is
no need to keep this case open

If you changing the host's management IP address then this is the only way to
do it. If you have only one host in the cluster, then you will need to shut
them down :(

Then you need to remove the host from engine, change the IP manually on the
host, via ifcfg-file, restart network service and install the host again via
the new IP address.

To answer your question Michael , i'm trying to configure a different ip
outside of my dhcp pool. The dhcp ip is 10.0.0.245 from the range
10.0.0.245-10.0.0.250 and i want to configure the ip 10.0.0.9 as the hosts ip

Ales, i also tried to follow your advise and uncheck the "Verify connectivity
between Host and Engine" as proposed. Again the same results, it keeps
reverting to previous dhcp ip
I will extract the vdsm log and i'll get back to you, in the meanwhile this is
the error that i see after the assignment of the static ip in the log

One thing to note if you are changing the IP to different one that was assigned
by DHCP you should uncheck "Verify connectivity between Host and Engine". This
makes sure that the engine won't lost connectivity and in case of switching IP
it happens.

Hi Sahina,

On the fourth node, I've found
/var/log/glusterfs/rhev-data-center-mnt-glusterSD-ovirtnode1.core\:_engine.log
... is this the engine.log you're referring to or do you want one from
the hosted engine?

I actually do want to go replica 5. Most VM's it runs are small(1
Core,1gb Ram,8gb HDD) and HA is needed. I'd like a bigger critical
margin than one node failing.

As far as the repos, it's a straight the ovirtnode iso install, I think
it's Node 4.2.0... which is yum updated to 4.2.1.1
When I installed 4.0 I'd installed on top of centos. This round I went
straight with the node os because of simplicity in updating.

I can manually restart gluster from cli, the peer and volume status show
no peers or volumes.

One thing of note, the networking is still as setup from the node
install. I cannot change the networking info from the ovirt
gui/dashboard. The host goes unresponsive and then another host power
cycles it.

Adding 2 more nodes to cluster will not change it to a replica 5.
replica 3 is a configuration on the gluster volume. I assume you don't
need a replica 5, but just to add more nodes (and possibly new gluster
volumes) to the cluster?

In ovirt 4.0, I'd done everything manually. No problem there.

In ovirt 4.2, I'd used the wizard for the hosted-engine. It looks
like the fourth node has been added to the pool but will not go
active. It complains gluster isn't running (which I've not
manually configured /dev/sdb for gluster). Host install+deploy
fails. Host can go into maintenance w/o issue. (Meaning the host
has been added to the cluster, but isn't operational)

Are the repos configured correctly on the new nodes? Does the oVirt
cluster where the nodes are being added have "Enable Gluster Service"
enabled?

What do I need to do to get the node up and running proper with
gluster syncing properly? Manually restarting gluster, tells me
there's no peers and no volumes.

Do we have a wizard for this too? Or do I need to go find the
setup scripts and configure hosts 4 + 5 manually and run the
deploy again?

The host addition flow should take care of installing gluster.
Can you share the engine log from when the host was added to when it's
reported non-operational?

Hanson

[ovirt-users] Ovirt nodes NFS connection

2018-03-21 Thread Tal Bar-Or
Hello All,

I am about to deploy a new Ovirt platform, the platform will consist 4
Ovirt nodes including management, all servers nodes and storage will have
the following config:

*nodes server*
4x10G ports network cards
2x10G will be used for VM network.
2x10G will be used for storage connection
2x1Ge 1xGe for nodes management

*Storage *4x10G ports network cards
3 x10G for NFS storage mount Ovirt nodes

Now given above network configuration layout, what is best practices in
terms of nodes for storage NFS connection, throughput and path resilience
suggested to use
First option each node 2x 10G lacp and on storage side 3x10G lacp?

The second option creates 3 VLAN's assign each node on that 3 VLAN's across
2 nic, and on storage, side assigns 3 nice across 3 VLANs?
Thanks

[ovirt-users] Bad volume specification

2018-03-21 Thread nicolas

Hi,

We're running oVirt 4.1.9, today I put a host on maintenance, I saw one
of the VMs was taking too long to migrate so I shut it down. It seems
that just in that moment the machine ended migrating, but the shutdown
did happen as well.

Now, when I try to start the VM I'm getting the following error:

2018-03-21 12:31:02,309Z ERROR

It looks quite bad... I'm attaching the engine.log since the moment I
start the VM.

Is there anything I can do to recover the VM? oVirt says the disk is OK
in the 'Disks' tab.

What version of the guest agent do you have installed on RHEL 6.5?

[ovirt-users] Cannot remove VM

2018-03-21 Thread Angel R. Gonzalez

Hi,

I can't edit/remove/modify a VM. Always show a message:
"Cannot remove VM. Related operation is currently in progress.
Please try again later"

I also used REST API
curl -k -u admin@internal:passwd -X DELETE
https://engine/ovirt-engine/api/vms/

and the output message is the same.

How to can execute actions over the VM, or how to remove it from Cluster?

Thanks in advance.

Ángel González.

Re: [ovirt-users] GPG Key of evilissimo repo for ovirt-guest-agent is expired

2018-03-21 Thread nicolas

Also noticed this.

As per the CHANGELOG of the package, the maintainer is a member of
RedHat at least until Aug 2014. Not sure if he's subscribed to this
list, though. Maybe sending him an e-mail directly? You can find it in
the /usr/share/doc/ovirt-guest-agent/changelog.Debian.gz file.

Regards.

Hi,

it looks like for this repo, the GPG key is expired.

Does someone know, whom I should contact, that this key will be
renewed?

Or does someone know another repo, where I can download the latest
ovirt-guest-agent for Ubuntu 16.04

Sizing for hyperconverged is very similar - ensure there is enough
resources for gluster to run.
Gluster would need atleast 2 cores, there's also a systemd slice
configuration on HC setups for gluster, that limits CPU allocation to 1/3
of available cores in case of contention. RAM requirements would be
workload specific. In general 16GB RAM is sufficient for gluster.

[ovirt-users] How to deal with "Used memory of host ... exceeded defined threshold [95%]" messages

2018-03-21 Thread Klaas Demter
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how I could stop the manager with spamming
used memory exceeded threshold messages. I have a hypervisor that has
1,5TB memory and it's using about 98% of that with hugepages for sap
hana vms (configured like https://access.redhat.com/articles/3347431).
It still has like 40-50GB memory left for the hypervisor which should
be plenty.

So the option I could figure out on my own: I can adjust the global
limit of LogMaxPhysicalMemoryUsedThresholdInPercentage but I'm not
sure if that is a good idea for my "normal" hypervisors that often
have way less memory.

My questions are:
- can I adjust the limit on a per hypervisor basis?
- can I skip the memory check for certain hypervisors or skip all
checks for certain hypervisors?
- would a check for free memory in gb make more sense than a percentage check?

Setup is still on 4.1.9.

Greetings
Klaas
