[ovirt-users] Re: Host restarting for unknown reasons

2018-09-27 Thread Michael Mast
Thanks. I will create a new thread for that, I'm getting off topic.

What are the top reasons one host would think the other is offline?

happening not long after I tried to update the engine, and I think I
screwed that up. The instructions I was working off of was outdated and a
lot of the links on the ovirt site are broken. My theory is that the
engines were not "synced" since a copy runs on each host. This would cause
the engine on one host to come online and think the other is not
responding, at this point it forces the other host offline using iDRAC
(This is in the logs how it reboots the other hsot) and forces all VMs
 over.

So what I did was remove one host from the cluster, re-install CentOS7,
and re-add it to the cluster. This way the engine config would be copied
from the primary host and keep them synced. If this does not work the next
step is to convert the hosted engine into a dedicated engine. Are there any
good guides for making this conversion?

For me, I only had this problem on 1 of the 4 hosts in my cluster.
Here is what I did:
# imgbase layout
result was "ovirt-node-ng-4.2.6.1-0.20180913.0"

# imgbase base --remove ovirt-node-ng-4.2.6.1-0.20180913.0
(used to remove the "failed" 4.2.6.1 update)

# yum reinstall ovirt-node-ng-image-update.noarch
(used to re-install 4.2.6.1)

Now the host is updated to 4.2.6.1

Dear all

We are very happily running a hyperconverged gluster ovirt setup since beginning of 2016. Because we couldn't afford 3 well-equipped servers, we've set-up replica 3 with one arbiter gluster cluster. Back then the gluster integration in oVirt wasn't where it is today. We did not add the arbiter node to oVirt. Since then a lot changed and we suspect that from time to time we run into problems because we haven't added the arbiter node as a host to oVirt. We also think that we may profit from features and higher visibility in oVirt when it is aware of all gluster nodes. Now, we are thinking of adding the third, the arbiter host. Today we are using oVirt 4.2.0.2 and GlusterFS 3.12 on CentOS 7.4. We see two ways to accomplish this:
1) Add it as a new host
2) Import it as the discovered host in Compute >> Clusters >> OurCluster

The questions we have:
* First of all, is this a good idea anyway?

It helps that oVirt engine is aware of the hosts that it is managing.  For instance, to ensure that quorum is not lost when a host is fenced.

* Do we need to install vdsmd on the arbiter node?

Yes, vdsm (and vdsm-gluster) is needed on the node

* What is or is there difference between the two ways? Will it discover the gluster configuration or break it?

You can either add or import. Import helps when you have an entire cluster to be added

Before we break it we would love to hear what you guys think.

Thanks a lot

Hi Brett,

you have to shutdown all the hosts in the cluster and when you
update the cluster I think you have to run reinstall from the install menu so
installs the gluster packages. I tried a short-cut with ours and as one host
was in maintenance it reinstalled and activated it so there was somewhere for

It helps that oVirt engine is aware of the hosts that it is managing. For
instance, to ensure that quorum is not lost when a host is fenced.

You can either add or import. Import helps when you have an entire cluster

[ovirt-users] Re: New oVirt deployment suggestions

2018-09-27 Thread Hesham Ahmed
Also I would not create a single bond for use with gluster and
management (even on different VLAN), gluster can saturate 4x1Gbe ports
easily, specially during healing and this would trigger fencing since
engine would start getting timeouts when trying to reach hosts. I
would suggest creating 2 bonded interfaces (2 x 1G each), with one
dedicated for gluster or get a dedicated 10G nic for gluster.

[ovirt-users] New oVirt deployment suggestions

2018-09-27 Thread Stefano Danzi

Hello!

I'm almost ready to start with a new oVirt deplyment. I will use CentOS
7, self hosting engine and glusert storage.

I have 3 phisical host. Each host has four NIC. My first idea is:

- configure bond betwheen NICs
- configure a VLAN interface for management network (and local lan)
- configure a VLAN interface for gluster network
- configure gluster for the hosted engine
- start "hosted-engine --deploy" process

is this enough? do I need a phisical dedicated NIC for management network?

Meaning that user with UPN(user principal name) nbud...@psecure.net
