[ovirt-users] Re: Upgrade 4.0 to 4.1: Global Maintenance Mode not recognized

2018-11-26 Thread Edward Haas
Where did you managed to get a 4.1 version from?
I would recommend using a supported version (4.2).

You can reset the brick - if you're on oVirt 4.2.x, there's a UI option in
the bricks subtab to do this.

Recent versions configure the hosted-engine vm to use a serial console,
which is much easier to use (if you have no X on the host).

For older versions, you might want to check a page I wrote some time ago,
that does not exist anymore on the website, but can be found at archive.org:

http://web.archive.org/web/20150704004004/http://www.ovirt.org:80/Hosted_Engine_Console

Good luck and best regards,

Thanks! That fixed it (I just added the Admin user back to SuperUser group via
the web interface with an LDAP account that had SuperUser).

Looks like the permissions for admin@internal were removed by another admin user

You can try the following

1. Get the admin user external id

select external_id from users where name = 'admin' and domain = 'internal-authz'

2. Add permissions for admin user

select attach_user_to_role(
'admin',

[ovirt-users] Remote console access for old Ovirt 3.6 install

2018-11-26 Thread David Gossage
I have an older 3.6.7 setup I am still using at a location. The
hosted-engine is up but not responding

{"reason": "failed liveliness check", "health": "bad", "vm": "up",
"detail": "up"}

I am guessing it got into some paused or halted state after a power outage
and storage went offline for a short bit and I may need to manually perform
some tasks. When I attempt the suggested method of
hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=global
hosted-engine --console

I get an error about

Use the password you've set using --add-console-password for logging in

** (remote-viewer:11479): WARNING **: Could not open X display
Cannot open display:
Run 'remote-viewer --help' to see a full list of available command line
options

Their are 7 other VM's running I was able to manually continue from
vdsClient

Is their a way to get remote access to this engine?

[ovirt-users] Re: AffinityGroup API

2018-11-26 Thread Staniforth, Paul
Hi Andrej

I believe they are using 4.2.5 they get a permission error although they can
use the python SDK with the same account.

I think in these cases you have to use taskcleaner.sh
Last year I had similar problems with hung tasks and I was pointed to
taskcleaner.sh from Fred:
https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2017-November/085194.html

but it was not so user friendly in its syntax
During engine-setup there are cleaning stages when you see

[ INFO ] Cleaning async tasks and compensations
[ INFO ] Unlocking existing entities

So one chance could be to run
engine-setup --offline (to prevent updates)
and let it do the clean stage
Putting environment into global maintenance before in case of self hosted
engine

There are also detailed docs on rh portal, such as
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/500263
but they need subscription for access and for pure oVirt I only found
this:
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/db-issues/helperutilities/

It would be nice to have a free documentation entry point for oVirt users
facing this kind of problems, in my opinion.

[ovirt-users] How to kill hanged task listed in engine but not in vdsm-client?

2018-11-26 Thread Stefano Stagnaro
Hello,

I'm struggling with an hanged task. I can see it from RestAPI (and UI) as:

Adding Disk

true
false
2018-11-23T18:40:59.466+01:00
2018-11-23T18:06:18.512+01:00
started

The job is hanged since user has killed fallocate process on the host. However,
I can't kill task from the hosts itself since vdsm-client returns zero task on
any host:

# vdsm-client Host getAllTasksInfo
{}

How can I deal with it? I already tried to restart ovirt-engine.service but
task is still there and prevent me to put the involved storage domain into
maintenance.

I also tried the "clear" method for service "job" via RestAPI but it fails
since it's not an external job.

Thank you,

Repository ovirt-4.2-centos-ovirt42 is listed more than once in the

I`ve got following repos configured in directory /etc/yum.repos.d:

ovirt-4.2-dependencies.repo
ovirt-4.2-pre-dependencies.repo

I deleted the 'pre' repos several times but apparently they are being recreated
somehow.

Can anybody explain this behaviour please and eventually the meaning of these
'pre' repos in generell as well?

Thank you in advance.

It's not possible right now.

2) Can I use two providers in oVirt simultaneously?  One IPA and the
other AD?

Sure, you can have two profiles, one for IPA and one for AD.

Hi,

Yes, the AffinityGroupHosts is missing. Can you please open a bug[1] so we
can add it?

As a workaround, the hosts can be modified by PUT request to the
AffinityGroup endpoint directly, for example:

PUT /ovirt-engine/api/clusters/1234/affinitygroups/5678

However, this will replace all hosts in the affinity group with the hosts
listed.

[ovirt-users] VM has snapshots with disks in illegal status

2018-11-26 Thread Markus Schaufler
Hi!

I've testet a backup solution which turned out to work not as expected. It left
some VM's turned off which cannot be restarted.

When trying to delete the snapshot(s) of the vms following error message
occurs:
"Cannot remove Snapshot. The following attached disks are in ILLEGAL status:
System, Disk2 - please remove them and try again"

Also I cannot detach any disk because of: Cannot remove Snapshot. The following
attached disks are in ILLEGAL status: System, SRV_Metrics-Store_Disk1 - please
remove them and try again.

I already tried via "unlock_entity" script to remove either the snapshots or
the disks (after backing them up) and via CLI but without success (same error
message).

Any idea on that?

[ovirt-users] Re: SPICE QXL Crashes Linux Guests

2018-11-26 Thread Alex McWhirter

On 2018-11-25 14:48, Alex McWhirter wrote:

I'm having an odd issue that i find hard to believe could be a bug,
and not some kind of user error, but im at a loss for where else to
look.

when booting a linux ISO with QXL SPICE graphics, the boot hangs as
soon as kernel modesetting kicks in. Tried with latest debian, fedora,
and centos. Sometimes it randomly works, but most often it does not.
QXL / VGA VNC work fine. However if i wait a few minutes after
starting the VM for the graphics to start, then there are no issues
and i can install as usual.

So after install, i reboot, hangs on reboot right after graphics
switch back to text mode with QXL SPICE, not with VNC. So i force
power off, reboot, and wait a while for it to boot. If i did text only
install, when i open a spice console it will hang after typing a few
characters. If i did a graphical install then as long as i waited long
enough for X to start, then it works perfectly fine.

I tried to capture some logs, but since the whole guest OS hangs it's
rather hard to pull off. I did see an occasional error about the mouse
driver, so that's really all i have to go on.

As for the spice client, im using virt-viewer on windows 10 x64, tried
various versions of virt-viewer just to be sure, no change. I also
have a large amount on windows guests with QXL SPICE. These all work
with no issue. Having guest agent installed in the linux guest seems
to make no difference.

There are no out of the ordinary logs on the VDSM hosts, but i can
provide anything you may need. It's not specific to any one host, i
have 10 VM hosts in the cluster, they all do. They are westmere boxes
if that makes a difference.

Any ideas on how i should approach this? VNC works well enough for
text only linux guest, but not being able to reboot my GUI linux
guests without also closing my spice connection is a small pain.

as far as ovirt versions im on the latest, this is a rather fresh
install. just set it up a few days ago, but i've been a long time
ovirt user. I am using a squid spice proxy if that makes a difference.

Hi,

I don't know much about ruby SDK. I think the SDKs for various languages
are generated from the API specification.

Ondra, is this a bug in ruby SDK?

The memory will also only really be used when the backing file is
actually accesses. So if you keep very old snapshots, but all data has
already been overwritten and the old snapshot is never accessed, it
doesn't need that memory.

Additionally, starting with QEMU 3.1, cache-clean-interval is active by
default and frees the cached table of a snapshot layer when it hasn't
been accessed for 10 minutes. (You had to enable it explicitly before
that, which I don't think oVirt does.)

I'm not aware of a proper performance test where this aspect was tested.

[ovirt-users] oVirt impersonation and sessions

2018-11-26 Thread Anastasiya Ruzhanskaya
Hello everyone!

I wanted to find out how the impersonation technique used in oVirt works? I
know from libvirt developers, that oVirt opens one connection only for
multiple clients. How does this work?

Also I found out in source code that in ActionParameterBase class the
sessionId field is marked transient but, for example, for GWT rpc message,
which goes to the server and says what action will be made (shut down,
pause vm) this is the only field in all sent information which says what
the session is. Where is the session sent instead? There was also a field
with session id in https headers, but this was related to cookie so I am
not completely sure if this can help to identify the current user.
