The "service log" refers to /var/log/ovirt-engine-dwh/ovirt-engine-dwhd.log .
Please check/share that. Thanks.

Adding Shirly.

Also, we might want to change the message to mention the log location.

Hello,

I tried to reproduce the problem, but did not succeed. What version of
oVirt do you have? And what are the exact steps?

Please send engine and server logs.

Thank you.

Maybe buying a payed cinder service from a cloud provider would do the job,

Any case scenarios ?

Hello everybody,

Since days, I'm trying to install oVirt (via Foreman) in network mode (TFTP net
install).
All is great, but I want to make some actions in postinstall (%post).
Some actions are relatated to /etc/sysconfig/network-interfaces and another
action is related to root authorized_keys.

When I try to add pub-key to a created authorized_keys for root, I work
(verified into anaconda.
But after installation and anaconda reboot, I've noticed all my %post actions
in /(root) are discared. After reboot, there is nothing in /root/.ssh for
example.
Whereas, in /etc, all my modications are preserved.

I thought to a Selinux relative issue, but It is not relative to Selinux

I miss something. Please can you help to understand how oVirt install /
partition work ?

thanks for all

[ovirt-users] Re: multiple engines (active passive)

2019-01-14 Thread Alex McWhirter
real HA is complicated, no way around that...

As stated earlier, we also run engine bare metal using pacemaker /
corosync / drbd to keep both nodes in perfect sync, failover happens in
a few seconds. We also do daily backups of the engine, but in the 4
years or so that we have been running ovirt, we have luckily never had
to use them with this setup. STONITH is pretty important to setup if you
are running less than three nodes as the engine, just to keep split
brain from corrupting everything.

[ovirt-users] Re: multiple engines (active passive)

2019-01-14 Thread michael
I'm still sort of new to ovirt, but I went through a similar things. I had my
original engine fail and had to recover, so here is my "oVirt HA plan"

1. I do NOT use hosted ovirt, I had issues getting it deployed correctly, and
that doesn't help if they engine VM itself has issues. My engine is hosted on
a completely separated 2-node hyper-converged Hyper-V Cluster. Unless you have
a cluster larger than 3 hosts, I really don't think hosted ovirt is a good
idea, it would make more sense to just load ovirt on another PC by itself.
2. I plan on loading another copy of ovirt in a "cold storage" configuration.
Where it will be loaded on centos, and configured as close as I can without
adding in any hosts. I'll probably keep it turned off and try to updated it
once a month or so.
3. If I have another oVirt failure, I know to log in, put the storage domains
into maintenance mode if possible, and copy out any needed config items i may
have missed. I will the shut it off and delete it. I then will reboot all the
hosts one at a time to clear out any sanlock issues, then add the hosts to the
new copy of ovirt and import the storage. I estimate that process to take
around 2-4hrs.

2019-01-14 Thread michael
I ended up finally figuring this out after I read a few more articles. I
managed to not reboot all the original gluster hosts. Once I rebooted all the
gluster hosts and the engine (just in case) I was successfully able to import
the storage domains and managed to not lose any VMs at all.

It is gluster in my case too, but using HCI single host deployment feature.
That should/could be the "official" replacement for the previous all-in-one
type of installation
So the host connects through Gluster to its gluster network ip and you
should also be able in the future, if that is the case, to expand to three
node (yet to investigate in detail)

with single host environment case.
Inside the admin portal I correctly see the Hosted Engine VM and its
storage domain. And I'm able to connect to its console
I'll try the whole deploy from scratch using this info.
Thanks,
Gianluca

[ovirt-users] Ansible and SHE deployment

2019-01-14 Thread Vrgotic, Marko
Dear oVirt team,

I would like to ask you help in get some general guidelines, do’s & don’ts in
deploying complete oVirt environment using Ansible.

The first Production deployment I made was done manual:

12 Hypervsiors – all exact same HW Brand and Specs
3/12 used for HA Env for SHE
oVirt version 4.2.1 (now we are at 4.2.7)
4Gluster nodes, managed externally of oVirt

This is environment I would like to convert into deployable by Ansible

Atm, I am working on second Production env, for Eng/Dev department, and I want
to go all way Ansible.
I am aware of your playbooks, and location on github, but what I want to ask is
an advice on how to approach using them:

The second Env will have:

7Hypervisors different specs / all provisioned using Foreman
oVirt version, latest 4.2.x at that point.
3/7 providing HA for SHE engine
Storage used is to be NetApp.

Please let me know how to proceed with modifying Ansible playbooks and what
should be the recommended executing order, and what to look for? Also, If you
need additional info, I will be happy to provide.

Kind regards,
Marko Vrgotic

Hi,
could be the same I have in this thread during single host HCI
install:
https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg52875.html

It looks the same issue.

This was was broken for few days, and was fixed last week.

I have not understood where to find the to-be-patched file
vdsm-api.yml
It seems it is not in engine and host...

The yaml file is the source - on the host the file is stored in a
binary format

that is 100 times faster to load.

Marcin, do we have an easy way to update the yaml on a host without
building

vdsm from source?

Nir

Hi,

There are no yamls on the host but you can replace the binaries
describing the API:

 * download 'vdsm-api' rpm that was built from the aforementioned
   patch:

https://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/vdsm_standard-on-merge/184/artifact/build-artifacts.el7.x86_64/vdsm-api-4.30.5-2.gitf824ec2.el7.noarch.rpm
 * copy 'usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm/rpc/vdsm-api.pickle' from
the rpm to the same location on your host

Marcin

For more demanding scenarios there is also an ansible role to handle the
disaster recovery of an oVirt environment:
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-ansible-disaster-recovery

Here a demo about how to handle the mapping between the two sites:
