Hi, the Gluster & Hyperconverged deployment moved outside the documentation
section on the website: https://ovirt.org/dropped/gluster-hyperconverged/
as it's outdated and unmaintained.
GlusterFS is being deprecated for usage on storage domains: Bug 2016359
 - Deprecate usage of
GlusterFS for Storage Domains
And the hyperconverged solution for oVirt is based on GlusterFS, so it's
being deprecated as well.

[ovirt-users] Remove obsolete Gluster hyperconverged doc

2022-02-03 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Hi Sandro,
It seems that with
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-site/commit/f3286b2e1f2871978d054250556f1b4f0eb7f09e#diff-41cf6794ba4200b839c53531555f0f3998df4cbb01a4d5cb0b94e3ca5e23947d
all refference to Gluster & Hyperconverged is removed from the website.

Can you clarify the situation with Hyperconverged deployments ?

[ovirt-users] Hosted Engine down and not visible on any host

2022-02-03 Thread milan . mithbaokar
Hi,
We have a 4 node ovirt cluster running at 4.4.1.5. We are running it on iSCSI
shared Storage. The hosted engine is running on its separate iSCSI shared
storage.
Hosted Engine went down all of a sudden and no where to be found on any of
the nodes when I do virsh list --all
All other VM's are showed in the list but cannot see the hosted engine?

when we try to bring hosted engine up using "hosted-engine --vm-start" it
errors out with message "vm does not exist". The shared iscsi storage ip on
which the HE vm was running is pingable, but when we perform "hosted-engine
--connect-storage" we are getting request timeouts after 60 seconds.

Any ideas to restore back the hosted engine and the cluster highly appreciated.

2022-02-03 Thread denismalkomail
Thank you for your work! Now I managed to install Ovirt 4.4.10 version using
iso image.

In the beginning, I tried updating repositories, clearing dnf cache, and
restarting the installation, but I couldn't.
When I download a new iso and run from scratch I managed to install it.
I have one more question.
If I'll want to update ovirt. Will I have a possibility to update it without
reinstalling from iso again?

This is expected on oVirt, our multipath configuration is intentionally grabbing
any device that multipath can work with, even if the device only has one path.
The motivation is to be able to configure a system when only one path is
available (maybe you have an hba/network/server issue), and once the other
paths are available the system will use them transparently.

To avoid this issue with local devices, you need to blacklist the device.

Add this file:

$ cat /etc/multipath/conf.d/local.conf
blacklist {
wwid "QEMU HARDDISK"
}

And run (as root):

   multipathd reconfigure

At this point lsblk will show the expected /dev/sdb1 and multipath
will never use this device again.

Adding a serial to the device in libvirt xml will make it easier to blacklist.

Configuring NFS on some other machine is easy.

I'm using another VM for this, so I can easily test negative flows like stopping
or restarting the NFS server while it is being used by vms or storage
operations.
I'm using 2G alpine vm for this, it works fine even with 1G memory.

To workaround it, you can edit
'/usr/share/ansible/collections/ansible_collections/ovirt/ovirt/roles/engine_setup/tasks/install_packages.yml'
and add a task to fix the repo file.

As you write the term "local", if you plan to have only one host and not
add any other in the future for this environment, you had better creating a
DC/Cluster of type "Local" (versus "Shared") and then a storage domain of
type "Local on Host", where you give it the path where you mounted your
additional disk (with correct permissions).
I've been using it for many months on one environment with only one very
big server (1,5Tb of ram and 2 NVME disks, each 2Tb in size), currently
with 36 VMs running without problem. Now at 4.4.10 async 2.
The host is now based on Rocky Linux 8.5 (previously CentOS 8.4) with a
standalone engine, also that one now based on Rocky Linux 8.5) that is a VM
on an external vSphere environment.
This same environment previously was based on a single host gluster
configuration and I converted it to this configuration without loss of
VMs/data (I detached and then imported the previously gluster based fs).

vdsm.storage.mount.MountError: Command ['/usr/bin/mount', '-t', 'xfs', '/srv',
'/rhev/data-center/mnt/_srv'] failed with rc=32 out=b'' err=b'mount:
/rhev/data-center/mnt/_srv: /srv is not a block device.\n'

I suppose it expects the name of the block device (ie. /dev/sdb)
rather than the mount point there.

It also turns out the new device has been "captured" by multipathd:

# multipath -ll
0QEMU_QEMU_HARDDISK_drive-scsi0-0-0-1 dm-0 QEMU,QEMU HARDDISK
size=100G features='1 queue_if_no_path' hwhandler='0' wp=rw
`-+- policy='service-time 0' prio=1 status=active
  `- 0:0:0:1 sdb 8:16 active ready running

I've so far not found a way to disable multipathd effectively. Even
stopping and disabling the service and rebooting doesn't help so I
guess something starts it up.

I don't have an NFS server to use for this.

No, the metadata "whiteboard" is shared. Just one copy that you removed.
Once node 3 start reporting again, it will simply put new content in there.

Not sure about vdsm, maybe some component (vdsm, engine) is still trying to
get status of node 3. I have been away for too long, so Didi will have to

Are you sure it's reading the same space? Perhaps there is some
misconfiguration or something? Caching?

Not sure. Perhaps try to restart the ha broker, agent or both.
If you do this in global maintenance, I think it should be safe -
wait until everything looks ok before exiting global maint.

Check also vdsm and ha logs.

Good luck and best regards,

You can find more info on the failure in:
/var/log/vdsm/supervdsmd.log

Posix compliant is basically NFS without some mount options:
https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/blob/878407297cb7dc892110ae5d6b0403ca97249247/lib/vdsm/storage/storageServer.py#L174

Using a local device on a host is less tested path, I'm not QE is testing
this (Avihai, please correct me if you do).

If you have multiple hosts, this will break if the local device does not have
the same name on all hosts (so using /dev/sdb1 is very fragile). If you have
one host it can be fine.

Any reason to add a device to the vm, instead of using an NFS server?

I guess that your purpose is testing virt-v2v with oVirt, so you want to test
a common configuration; NFS is very common for oVirt users.

[ovirt-users] Unclear how to add local (POSIX) storage

2022-02-03 Thread Richard W.M. Jones

I'm following the instructions here:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.2/html/administration_guide/sect-preparing_and_adding_posix_compliant_file_system_storage

I've also added an extra virtual disk to my host node which appears as
/dev/sdb. Although the disk is partitioned, /dev/sdb1 is not created.
Is udev broken in oVirt node?

I cannot see anywhere in the dialog where you specify the name of the
device (eg. "/dev/sdb1"). So how's it supposed to work?

It doesn't work, giving an information-free error message:

Error while executing action Add Storage Connection: Problem while trying to
mount target

Rich.

The issue you faced is most probably due to the appliance.
We've just released an updated appliance today, which should solve this
issue.

Please let us know if the issue still persists.

Thanks in advance,

2022-02-03 Thread Abdul E
I am still new to this despite my few months of research, I didn't think
you could do that. So you're saying i could have used engine setup on rocky
for example to setup the engine on its own? My issue with that is I am not
sure how it would tie in to my plan for a multi node hyperconverged gluster.

Id have to look into that first to be honest. Sounds promising though, i
been at this a few days but didnt notice it.

Thanks Lev

Hey Lev, I dont think this update solves the mirror issue on engine
deployment, seems to error out on gluster mirrors despite the node/host
servers not throwing any errors for those updated repos.

 I tested using todays 4.4.10-2022020214.el8.iso

[ovirt-users] Re: [ANN] oVirt Node 4.4.10.1 Async update

2022-02-03 Thread Lev Veyde
Hi Abdul,

And for the separate install have you used the latest oVirt release package?

i.e.
https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.4/rpm/el8/noarch/ovirt-release44-4.4.10.1-1.el8.noarch.rpm
?

If I understand correctly, in all cases you tried the Hosted Engine
deployment mode, which uses appliance, which unfortunately hasn't been
updated yet, which may explain the issue you have.
We're working on releasing an updated appliance right now.

Have you tried to install a separate engine instance?
I.e. installing a separate VM w/ CentOS Stream/Alma/Rocky and setting up
the engine through engine-setup ?

Thanks in advance,

Ill pass the logs shortly, i tried both, using the Ovirt Node ISO (latest
from yesterday) and i even tried a few hours ago to deploy rockylinux and
manually install using CLI and the hosted engine deploy script which
brought the same error, its specifically ovirt-4gluster-8 that it cannot
find mirrors for.

Hi Abe,

Thanks for the update.

Are you deploying the engine in Hosted-Engine mode or a separate engine
install mode (i.e. using a separate VM for installing the engine) ?

Also can you please provide the logs?

Thanks in advance,

As far as I see you can search for the name but you don't know what to
search since only the alias is exposed in th list, so I am not sure what is
the meaning of searching on something we don't display , I would remove the
option to search by name
