[ovirt-users] Migrating (or Deploying) Hosted Engine to second host from AMD -> Intel
Hi, I am currently running a Ovirt 3.6 host + Hosted Engine (both Centos 7) on an AMD based computer (AMD_HOST). I recently purchased a second server which is running an Intel processor and want to move all the VM's + Hosted Engine to this second server (INTEL_HOST). I was wondering what the proper procedure to do this would be. I have attempted a few things but nothing is successfully working. I have added and activated the INTEL_HOST through the Hosted Engine UI but since the AMD_HOST is AMD based and the second is Intel based I had to create a separate cluster (INTEL_CLUSTER). I can move all VM's to this new cluster but have not figured out how to get a Hosted Engine working on INTEL_HOST. Attempting to force migration of the Hosted Engine to INTEL_CLUSTER fails with the following: Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details: The host INTEL_HOST did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a Hosted Engine host.. Attempting to deploy a second hosted engine also runs into errors (hosted-engine --deploy). After downloading the answers.conf file from AMD_HOST, setup fails because of a different process type/family. I manually downloaded the answers.conf file and changed the processor type but setup validation fails because the path to the hosted engine metadata does not exist. hosted-engine --deploy --config-append=answers.conf ... [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': failed to read metadata: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/rhev/data-center/mnt///ha_agent/hosted-engine.metadata' [ INFO ] Stage: Clean up This metadata file points to /var/run/vdsm/storage// but the he_uuid folder does not exist. I suspect this path doesn't exist because the storage domain is mapped for AMD_CLUSTER's hosted engine and cannot be referenced by another cluster. vdsClient does list the storage domain info though on the INTEL_HOST. vdsClient -s 0 getStorageDomainInfo uuid = version = 3 role = Regular remotePath = type = NFS class = Data pool = [] name = hosted_storage The next steps I was going to take was to backup the hosted engine, setting up INTEL_HOST, and restoring the backed up hosted engine but I'm not sure if this will work since it will be restored on a different host. The next option was to just export all VM's, setup INTEL_HOST and a new hosted engine from scratch, and import all VM's, though I would prefer not to have to do this. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to make this move? I would simply like to move my Ovirt installation onto the INTEL_HOST. I thought I would be able to add the second host, migrate all data over, and remove the first host, but this procedure is getting hung up on dealing with the hosted engine. [ovirt-users] Data Center non-responsive, storage not loading, and psql errors after importing an ova
I posted about this a few months ago on Reddit when it happened the first time, and I have now repeated it on two more separate installations. I have a simple oVirt 4.2 hosted-engine setup, two hosts, with a qnap NAS as the shared NFS storage. I copied an ova file (exported from vmware) to the NFS storage. I then imported it by logging into the engine gui, going to "Virtual machines", selecting the host/file path/datacenter/etc, and starting the import. Once I started the import, I get an alert that it failed almost immediately, followed by a notice that the data center is in a non-responsive state. Clicking on the "storage" tab under Data Center, or going to the "Storage Domain" page directly yields the three ". . ." loading animation, which never ends. I can still see the storage mounts on the hosts, and I can move files to and from them. the engine.log file on the hosted-engine VM contains a lot of the following lines: Caused by: org.springframework.dao.DataIntegrityViolationException: PreparedStatementCallback; SQL [select * from getstorage_domains_list_by_imageid (?)]; ERROR: integer out of range Where: PL/pgSQL function getstorage_domains_list_by_imageid(uuid) line 3 at RETURN QUERY; nested exception is org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ER ROR: integer out of range Where: PL/pgSQL function getstorage_domains_list_by_imageid(uuid) line 3 at RETURN QUERY at org.springframework.jdbc.support.SQLStateSQLExceptionTranslator.doTranslate(SQLStateSQLExceptionTranslator.java:102) [spring-jdbc.jar:4.3. 9.RELEASE] What I have tried: Restarting the hosted-engine service Restarting nfs and vdsm services Rebooting the hosted-engine Rebooting both hosts Entering an exiting maintenance mode (one host never came out of maintenance, and refuses to with the error " General command validation failure ") Any idea what might have happened? And what should I have done to try to rectify it? Entering maintenance mode and restarting services seems to have made things much worse. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/O4CPY5EYCOT3WALYBQLCLBQJDHIKKFUF/

I still havn't found a solution to this issue, but it was requested that I post my engine.log and vdsm.log files. You can find a copy of my engine.log here: https://git.nightscapetech.com/uploads/-/system/personal_snippet/1/baddae4e4cdc787d6f13363eb4657350/engine.log and my vdsm.log here: https://git.nightscapetech.com/uploads/-/system/personal_snippet/1/e43cf9648a138b717343adda3c02b594/vdsm.log Thank you. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/CXSZGTKJXBQFZYHWWDRVCM2DYZUVRIA4/
[Users] Ceph / rbd and ovirt
I'm currently setting up an ovirt cluster and so far it looks good. I like the integration with Foreman http://theforeman.org/ . I would like to use Ceph / rbd for my storage. I saw some mention of patches coming in May, but I did not find any new posts. What is the status of this work? Is there some patches I can try out? I have a working Ceph cluster and a working ovirt cluster, I just need a way to bring them together. Thanks, JOSH ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

There are a few different Ceph filesystems. But the posix based one is the least ready for production. The rbd filesystem is integrated into qemu and libvirt is the most suited for VM images. Are the Gluster patches available? I would like to see what that feature looks like and if I can modify them for Ceph. If there is a better filesystem to investigate please let me know. I'll follow that and see what I learn. The vdsm side may be similar since both are network disk device. There are only 2 steps needed to start up a VM with rbd. qemu-img create -f rbd rbd:data/host1 10G Then to start the image for qemu add -drive file=rbd:data/host1,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,format=raw or within libvirt: So the steps are simple, and maybe Gluster is more complex then I should use as an example. Re: [Users] Ceph / rbd and ovirt
We had to put oVirt work on hold when F17 would not work on the target hardware. A bug with SAS controllers and grub. Once F18 is out we will take another look. For now I'm working on using Foreman with libvirt, but I also need to work on Ceph support there as well.
