JNLP not opening

2011-05-28 Thread Jonathan Camilleri
I'm trying to figure out why Apache Tomcat 6.0 (JVM 1.6), appears to be
loaded within my virtual machine, however, I cannot access JNLP files
through the network by browsing; when trying to telnet to the virtual
machine, port 8080 appears to be closed from another machine and from the
virtual machine (guest running WinXP SP2 using MS Virtual PC
2007http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/virtual-pc-2007.aspx).
See attached files. The JNLP runs when browsing through local host within
the virtual machine (e.g. browsing to *
http://127.0.0.1:8080/webCalculator/WebStartCalculator.jnlp)*.

It's not possible to take screenshots from the virtual machine (IP
192.168.2.102), due to a problem with PC.

Error message is attached, which is being generated from another machine
(192.168.2.100) which accesses the virtual machine.

Installation problem [newbie]

2010-08-18 Thread Jonathan Camilleri
I'm trying to install Apache Tomcat (*
httpd-2.2.16-win32-x86-openssl-0.9.8o.msihttp://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi#apache22
*), on my laptop which runs Windows XP, and, I am being prompted for the
following:

Network Domain *- laptop is a standalone pc and field is mandatory; is a
workaround available?*
Server Name - *is this the name of the computer?*
Administrator's Email address - no problem :)

The instructions available
onlinehttp://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/install.html do
not seem to be relevant for this installation file.

Any ideas please?

Installation problem [newbie]

2010-08-18 Thread Jonathan Camilleri
I ran into an installation problem, and, hope you can help me out with it.
Initially I tried running the installer (*
httpd-2.2.16-win32-x86-openssl-0.9.8o.msihttp://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi#apache22
*), on my laptop which runs Windows XP, and, I was prompted for the
following:

Network Domain *- laptop is a standalone pc and field is mandatory; is a
workaround available?*
Server Name - *is this the name of the computer?*
Administrator's Email address - no problem :)

The instructions available
onlinehttp://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/install.html do
not seem to be relevant for this installation file, and, I was told that I
should try downloading from another location.

So I downloaded Apache Tomcat 6.0.29http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi,
which I assumed is the latest stable version, and, I am following *
RUNNING.txt* for the installation.

Even though I think I created the Java variables (section 1), when I run *
startup.bat*, an error is displayed. See
*tomcat.installation.command.log* which
is attached to this email.

Any ideas, please?

Well, I've installed the webserver (1st file), however, no services are

 PHP,
Perl, Python, or Lisp/Scheme web sites.

If you run Tomcat on Windows as a service, the installer will figure

 http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/setup.html#Windows

Documentation for managing the service under Windows is here:

 http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/windows-service-howto.html

If you are going to actively develop Java web applications, then it's
 sometimes
useful to install from the zip archive. Many IDEs use the batch files from
 the
zip archive to start and stop Tomcat.

Just unzip the archive in a directory that you have read/write access to.
 Add an
environment variable called JAVA_HOME and point it to your installation of
 the
Java JRE. On Windows the JRE is usually located in C:\Program
 Files\Java\jre6
(for the latest versions of Java).

Now to run the unzipped version of Apache Tomcat, just open a DOS command
window, navigate to the bin directory under where you unpacked the zip
 file. For
example, if you unpacked the zip file in C:\, the bin subdirectory would be
 in
C:\apache-tomcat-6.0.29\bin. Type startup (which will run startup.bat) to
 start
Tomcat, and shutdown (which will run shutdown.bat) to stop Tomcat.

To get your IDE to work with Tomcat, it's best to ask on the IDE mailing
 list
 (for example, NetBeans or Eclipse).

On my XP system, I've installed both. I set the service startup to manual,
 and I
point my IDE (NetBeans) to the zip file installation.

 . . . . just my two cents

Re: Tomcat 6.0 - Cannot startup Tomcat service

2009-05-31 Thread Jonathan Camilleri
After a bit of tinkering, I uninstalled JDK 1.6 u13 and:
1. Installed JDK 1.6 u14
Release notes:
http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u14.html
Download link:
https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/viewproductdetail-start?productref=jdk-6u14-oth-...@cds-cds_developer
2. Uninstalled Tomcat 6.0.18 and re-installed, using default JVM (within UI)

Tomcat is up and running. Joy :) My only problem is that this seemed to
have confused Eclipse 3.4.2, because it's displaying ugly messages on
startup, however, I guess that's another issue.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Completely unnecessary; the service launcher works fine with the JVM in the

  set JAVA_OPTS environment variable

This is Tomcat running as a Windows service; environment variables aren't
 used.

What the OP does need to do is install a 64-bit JVM, since he's using the
 64-bit service wrapper.

Re: Tomcat 6.0 - Cannot startup Tomcat service

2009-05-30 Thread Jonathan Camilleri
I tried replacing the .exe files with the 64 bit within C:\Program Files
(x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\bin, however no joy yet.

What do I do with the tc-native-1.dll?

 You've installed a 32-bit JVM; since you're on a 64-bit OS I'd recommend a
64-bit JVM, and use the 64-bit versions of tomcat6.exe and tomcat6w.exe
(which you may already be doing). If you don't already have them, the
 64-bit tomcat6*.exe files are here:

 http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tomcat/tc6.0.x/tags/TOMCAT_6_0_18/res/procrun/amd64/

If you want to use the APR dll, you'll also need the 64-bit version of
 that:
