Hi Ralph, Right, I'd glossed over that. I have to say though that the disctinction between the two lists seems a bit arbitrary to me. For instance, the 'Vocus student information system' and 'Finan' (which are not available to the public) are on the 'products' list along with Brix CMS, even though the former have little no value to developers because they have no access to it. The latter on the other hand could be considered to be a final product _or_ a springboard for custom development or customization.The distinction between components/tools/frameworks/end user products/sites is perhaps not immediately evident, but I would peronally prefer a list of sites/apps that showcase what you could do with Wicket, vs. a separate list of stuff that developers can actually use in development. In that sense Brix and, say, Wicketopia are more closely related, wouldn't you agree? with Spring. It started working when i put the injection annotation on
the method instead of on the variable.

Well, besides iolite, you could take a look at wicket-phonebook and wicketopia. They're not JDBC but they both come with Spring preconfigured. The phonebook has a couple of example DAO's and iBatis (among others) set up. You could take those as a starting point and 'add' JDBC. crlf (CR/LF) means Carriage Return/Line Feed. Windows and Unix treat newlines differently Windows uses a CR followed by a LF and Unix only uses a LF as a newline character. The dos2unix programs strips the superfluous CR's, among other things. Btw, this might happen when you copy text from, say, a web page. The page may look normal, but contain non-standard versions of common characters such as double quotes/apostrophes/three consecutive dots/other. They may look ok in your editor, but they'll have non-standard char codes and could lead to some non-obvious strangeness (such as what you described). Hi, Those symbols are shown when your system doesn't know how to render a particular character code. This could happen e.g. when you're trying to display Japanese characters without having a Japanese font installed. Hi, I'm sorry to see a couple of somewhat uncourteous responses in this thread. The guy is just asking a question that might well benefit others who are interested in Wicket too. Coming from e.g. Swing, there is indeed quite a lot of stuff to grok, and things can seem overwhelming, so why not just try and help each other out? That said, I would agree that becoming familiar with some of the basics of web related work isn't going to hurt, especially given the ubiquity of the web as a UI platform these days. If you want to do without that, things like Flex, or perhaps even WebOnSwing and POJO Application Server come to mind. Hi Raphael, You're using JPA, which complains that it can't find a persistence provider (i.e. Hibernate). Have you added the JPA-specific Hibernate jars such as hibernate-entitymanager.jar (and, while you're at it, hibernate-annotations.jar) as well? And where did you put your persistence.xml? Also, please include the relevant bits of your persistence.xml file, in particular: org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence This does not seem to be a Wicket-specific problem btw, althoug it may have something to do with your project's directory structure. Hi Jeremy, Just to weigh in on this, I personally think that working with JPA entity managers/Hibernate sessions could do with some clarification beyond "just use Spring". There are a number of quickstart type projects out there, but they all seem to revolve around using Spring, whereas I would have liked to see some of the more low level concepts cast light on, as they apply to Wicket: - Why might one want to use OSIV or other patterns? - EntityManagers/Sessions: how to obtain/close - Where in the app/request lifecycle do you do stuff? - Potential lazy loading issues - Using thread-local storage - How/where does this tie into servlets? - Why you might not want to bother with all of this too much and just use Spring/EJB instead. - etc. Most of this is not specific to Wicket per se, and I've seen a couple of posts on this in the mailing list/various blogs floating around, but it's quite a lot of stuff to piece together. I think a comprehensive treatment of these issues would be useful. Having typed all of that, maybe I should just write a tutorial myself... Oh well, my 2c. I agree that Wicket, although it's really 'only' a view framework, could do with a couple of straightforward examples in this area, because: - A view framework without any persistence going on isn't typically very useful; - It's important, if only to learn where, how and with what to hook into various server/session/request/... lifecycle stages correctly; - Wicket should be as easy as possible to get into, and this is rather a major point, I should think; - Spring, while very useful, is just a wee bit beside the point sometimes, and you're better off using it _after_ you understand what's going on anyway. (Besides, how else could you tell if it would useful to begin with?)
