I think that the LDAP extension that creates the user in XWiki should not
create a user if this one is already present.

And this is exactly what the authenticator is doing and to find existing user
it use the object I described to you.
Are you sure that this could not be caused by an error in database (first I
deleted those users)?
I never said that. I have absolutely no idea what your database would be slow,
just saying that it should not have anything to do with the LDAP authenticator.
Now for example I can login with that user but in log file I see the "_1" user,
so the ldap user is correct but has a wrong object linked (or something like
that).

Did you look at the object ?

No, the only officially slow thing I know during LDAP authentication is group

If you have a lots or very big LDAP groups in your mapping configuration it
might take a while to cache all of them. If that's your issue,
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Performances#HDisableLDAPsubgroupssearch
might help.

Not sure why you are talking about
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Authentication#HKerberosSSOAuthentication
since you example does not have anything to do with it (which is good).

So back to you example now, if manual login works you probably don't need much
on XWiki side.
I could not see it in the tomcat logs, only that the "user is null"
So if mod_auth_kerb. is doing it's job you should see in the LDAP debug log
something like: "RemoteUser: t...@mydomain.com" or "RemoteUser:
mydomain.com\toto" or some other format (that's why you have to provide a
regexp in the configuration) which is the REMOTE_USER that XWiki is supposed to
receive from whatever is in front of and and parsed with
"xwiki.authentication.ldap.remoteUserParser".

If you don't see it there is no much you can do at XWiki level. Sometimes bad
authenticator module don't properly set the HTTP REMOTE_USER and instead set a
custom HTTP header that you can indicate in
`xwiki.authentication.ldap.httpHeader`. I don't have any experience with
mod_auth_kerb sorry.

You have this issue when you create a new page or also when you edit a page
which already have those two objects ?

This is the kind of behavior you would have if the template you use when you
create your page only contain one object but it's not very clear from your

Note that mails sent by Discourse are still associated to

You can remove the group but if you don't remove it from the LDAP
mapping it will be automatically created each time a user
authenticate.

This is because by default the LDAP authenticator does not fallback on
standard XWiki auth. See xwiki.authentication.ldap.trylocal property
in the documentation.

Re: [xwiki-users] XWiki Docker in Prod

2017-05-10 Thread Thomas Mortagne
I don't know much about Docker but I can maybe help with the LDAP authenticator.

After you installed the extension you will also need to modify the
property xwiki.authentication.authclass in file xwiki.cfg in the
application server as indicated on
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/LDAP/Authenticator/#HGenericLDAPconfiguration.
I have no idea if the Docker package let you modify this file but if
you managed to do that then a good thing to do usually to understand
what's wrong with your LDAP setup is enabled debug log (see
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/LDAP/Authenticator/#HEnableLDAPdebuglog).

Re: [xwiki-users] How to verify user/password from XWiki from another app

2017-05-05 Thread Thomas Mortagne
I don't think you need to "import" anything.

As I explained in "Use another application as reference" section you can
use JDBC authenticator to tell XWiki to use credentials stored in a
different database somewhere, you just need to explains it how it can
access the database and it even support various kind of encrypted passwords
(you can explain it how to encrypt it to do the match). In that case the
reference is that other application which keep using its own credentials,
XWiki will simply use them directly too.

If you are referring to the use of Utils.getComponent it's not exactly

Re: [xwiki-users] Trouble with nested pages after upgrade from 5.X version

2017-05-04 Thread Thomas Mortagne
According to the URL it's really not the same page no.

If you renamed one into the other then by default a redirect is
automatically created in the old place (you should have disabled than in
the rename UI if you did not wanted that).

You can delete the page you don't want to keep from the page index or
directly by replacing "/view/" with "/delete/" in the URL.

Re: [xwiki-users] How to verify user/password from XWiki from another app

I did not sent you a link to the list of extension but the mail server cut
it.

I'm not really sure what you are expecting exactly. More important than the
links, I listed to you various ways to deal with your use case. There is no
magical way to just "make XWiki work with any application" so you have to
read the various solutions I talked about and think about what is possible
for you and then ask more specific questions.

Re: [xwiki-users] How to verify user/password from XWiki from another app

2017-05-04 Thread Thomas Mortagne
Ok I tough you wanted to make XWiki authenticate with some credentials
stored in another database.

If your use case is having several applications, including XWiki, use the
same credentials it depends a lot how configurable other (present and
future) applications are in your network.

= Use XWiki as reference

It would be simpler to use HTTP basic auth to validate credential on XWiki
because the way user/password are stored in the database is really not very
friendly for use cases like this. The password is a crypted object property
stored in the user profile making it quite a pain manipulate from pure
database point of view.

Another idea is to make your XWiki instance an OpenID Connect provider
using
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/OpenID%20Connect/OpenID%20Connect%20Provider/
and configure application to authenticate trough OpenID Connect on the
XWiki instance.

= Use another application as reference

Usually means writing your own custom XWiki authenticator or use generic
stuff like http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/
XWiki%20Authenticator%20JDBC

= Use a dedicated credential directory like LDAP as reference

This means using an authenticator like the LDAP one on XWiki side and
configuring other applications to connect to LDAP as well.

If you want to inherit xwiki.defaultbaseskin then don't put any
skin.properties or an empty one.

A feature. When you set parent to empty string you explicitly indicate you
don't want to inherit any skin (i.e. you disable xwiki.defaultbaseskin).
This is actually important for a skin made from scratch (like flamingo
which do exactly that) which would be broken if the default base skin is
changed.

Note that MyXWiki.org might not be the best for your use case since
you won't have programming right. In practice it means you won't have
the whole spectrum of possibilities (mainly impossible to install some
extensions, impossible to use some APIs in the scripts).

Still want one ?

Re: [xwiki-users] Installation from .deb packages

2017-05-02 Thread Thomas Mortagne
I just looked at https://packages.debian.org and from what I
understand the package mysql-server exist in jessie and the package
default-mysql-server is only included in jessie-backports.

However stretch does not contain any package mysql-server, are you
sure you are on Jessie ?

Anyway I will use the following to be safe: "mysql-server |
default-mysql-server | mariadb-server".

Re: [xwiki-users] Installation from .deb packages

2017-05-02 Thread Thomas Mortagne
The current dependencies in the package are:

xwiki-enterprise-common (= [[version]]), mysql-server, libmysql-java
(>= 5.1.4), dbconfig-common

having something like "mysql-server | mariadb-server" (i.e. need
either mysql-server or mariadb-server) is easy, just want to be what
is the right package.

Yes you can inherit from Flamingo, no need to duplicate it if you just
want to customize some templates only.

Re: [xwiki-users] Detailed XWiki Install Info For RPM-Based Systems

2017-04-27 Thread Thomas Mortagne
You have Docker images, makes things a bit easier but it's not really
less technically than Tomcat. See https://hub.docker.com/_/xwiki/.

If you really don't want to deal with system administration at all you
can look at professional hosting, see
https://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Hosted/.

The error has nothing to do with the permanent directory. It's telling
you that the current user is not allowed to view the page you are
asking for.

Maybe you just stayed in admin ? Can you go to your user profile ? Can
you go to the wiki home page ?

Re: [xwiki-users] error on jboss eap 6.4 installation

2017-04-24 Thread Thomas Mortagne
Looks like Jboss does not like the file
https://github.com/xwiki/xwiki-platform/blob/master/xwiki-platform-core/xwiki-platform-web/src/main/webapp/META-INF/jboss-all.xml
which was introduced for WildFly from what I understand.

I can't help more with it since I don't know much about JBoss or
WilFly. I guess you could try to remove it first.

Re: [xwiki-users] Extension installation problem

2017-04-14 Thread Thomas Mortagne
Usually when an extension install/uninstall is stuck it means someone
started one in the same wiki (or at root level) and never answered a
conflict question so the job is stil waiting and all other installs
are stuck.

Finding this extension or restarting the instance should fix it.

[xwiki-users] XWiki User Group Lyon ?

2017-04-13 Thread Thomas Mortagne
Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a XWiki User Group in
Lyon (France).

The idea would be to meet on a regular basis (It depends a lot how
many people are interested and I guess it's a discussion to have
during the first meeting but something like once every 4 months for
example). The idea would be to have short talks (something like 15/20
minutes) on various subjects (here are some examples on my side: talk
about new features, present the intranet of "Atelier des Médias"
coworking association which is based on XWiki, etc.) and then spend a
nice evening discussing and eat/drink stuff.

WDYT ?

I was not talking about the setting, {0} means "use the password the
user put in the login form".

Also make sure you did not set some LDAP properties with LDAP
Application at some point and forgot to reset them (yes even if you
uninstalled the application).

Those are the default.

Anyway it does not matter since the authenticator can not even bind to
the LDAP server.

AFAIK this folder is used to store mail before they are actually sent.

> /home//data_xwiki/lucene

This is not used since 7.0 so you should definitely get rid of it.

> and/or

> /home//data_xwiki/cache/

Not a bad idea. For now this folder contains only descriptors of core
extensions that were resolved online you get more details
("extension/core" subfolder). If you delete it XWiki will simply try
to resolve them at startup but it won't need to resolve much since the
WAR embeds complete descriptors for all the JARs it contains in 8.4.4.
It will clean descriptors that were downloaded in previous versions.

Now, except for lucene maybe if you have lots of documents, cleaning
those folders should not free much space if that's why you want to
cleanup.

If the DN we see in the debug log ("Binding to LDAP server with
credentials...") is right then all I can think of are:
* a wrong password (make sure you don't have some white space before
or after for example)
* wrong server host/port which lead to an LDAP server but not the expected one

This error is not related to current user but to the content author of
the search page. It usually means it was installed by someone who does
not have programming right or lost them since.

You should modify (you need to actually modify something, a new line
is enough for example) and save Main/Search page with a user who have
programming right.

Yes you need to upgrade main wiki first when you upgrade XWiki
(because the JAR dependencies of the XE UI are installed on root
namespace and only main wiki is allowed to do that).

Re: [xwiki-users] Xwiki multilanguage options

To access a page is a specific language you need to add "?language=es"
to the URL.

in XWiki syntax it gives something like

[[MyPage||queryString="language=es"]]

Re: [xwiki-users] Export a section of page instead of whole page

2017-03-30 Thread Thomas Mortagne
You have a "section" parameter in display macro (see
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Display%20Macro).
The limitation (or the good things depending on what you want exactly)
is that it includes the heading itself too.

So to use that, what you could do is create another page in which you
put {{display reference="Space.MyBigPage" section="HMyheading"/}} and
export that page.

Note that you have various example for more precise use cases in

Re: [xwiki-users] Redeploy the XWiki webapp ?

2017-03-15 Thread Thomas Mortagne
"redeploy" means restart. There is ways to redeploy an application
without restarting the application server but you should probably not
bother with that.

http://l10n.xwiki.org is where we actually store reference
translations and where translator can contribute right now. The idea
would be to translate directly in the wiki and then (automatically or
not) send the translations from your XWiki instance to l10n.xwiki.org
(if you have an account). You could see this as a commit/push.

In this specific use case the issue is that the file is untouched. You
should delete /var/lib/xwiki/data/solr/ and restart so that solr index
is automatically recreated.

Unfortunately there is no automatic upgrade of Solr index right now
when there is a change in the schema.

Re: [xwiki-users] Chinese characters will be replaced by # when exporting a page to PDF

2017-03-09 Thread Thomas Mortagne
Actually I looked a bit more and we seems to also have fonts with some
Chinese support (uming font) so we might have another issue (or uming
font is really limited).

Anyway best is to create a jira issue about this and someone need to
debug FOP to understand what is going on exactly and what is supported
and not supported by the various fonts we have.

Re: [xwiki-users] Chinese characters will be replaced by # when exporting a page to PDF

2017-03-09 Thread Thomas Mortagne
As I said, the first thing to do is report the problem on
https://jira.xwiki.org.

Now for the how to fix it, looks like embedding a font supporting
Chinese characters might not be as easy as I first tough. I looked at
Noto font but the pack which support Chinese (not even talking about
Japanese and Korean) is 115MB...

We are not going to add 115MB (3 times actually that if we add
Japanese and Korean Nato fonts) to the default XWiki package so here
are some ideas:
* find a lighter font with full support for CJK (but it's possible
there is none)
* download the Chinese Noto pack either automatically (when zh is
enabled in the preferences for example) or on demand in the admin
* enable back but then we might get back memory issues
in systems with lots of fonts installed like we used to
* just explain how to install a font by hand (it should be nothing
more that extracting it directly in /WEB-INF/fonts/ folder)

Re: [xwiki-users] Tagging user to get their attention.

2017-03-09 Thread Thomas Mortagne
I guess the quickest way to implement that in an extension would be a
component listening to DocumentCreatedEvent (and DocumentUpdatedEvent)
so that whenever a document is created it look at the content (or the
diff in case it's a modification and not a creation) of the document
and xobjects (to support comments too for example) and when matching
@ send a notification to the user. The UI part might
be a bit trickier to do for an extension without conflicting with the
WYSIWYG unless there is something for that in CKEditor itself, there
should not be much conflict risk with the wiki editor but I'm really
not the one to ask for guidelines to implement something like this :)

It's indeed possible Tomcat require root to use port 80. At least on
Linux. Usually what most people do is put Apache on Nginx in front of
Tomcat on port 80 and keep Tomcat on port 8080.

You should definitely never use a SNAPSHOT in production.

The current Long Term Support branch is 8.4.x (current version being 8.4.4).

Re: [xwiki-users] Chinese characters will be replaced by # when exporting a page to PDF

2017-03-08 Thread Thomas Mortagne
As indicated by the comment is here to load the system
fonts which we are not supposed to need by default since we embed GNU
FreeFont.

It's not all "non-English" characters since it works fine for many of
them from what I see but I do reproduce the issue with Chinese
characters.

And indeed according to
https://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/FAQ.html, Freefont does not
support Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters which is quite a
limitation by default. I'm not a big fan of enabling back
since it was taking a lot of memory when loading system
fonts (causing https://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-13307) which where
totally useless for most of them. Ideally we should replace freefont
with a more complete font pack if anything like this exist in a
compatible license.

In any case don't hesitate to create an issue on http://jira.xwiki.org
about that.

This warning means that XWiki found something it does not understand
in the classloader (QTJava.zip which indeed looks a bit weird from
Java point of view) but from what I see I don't think you need to
worry here. XWiki scan the classloader to find what is already there
(so that you don't end up installing it again as a dependency of some
extension).

For this one I don't know. I don't have access to a Mac but AFAIK it's
supposed to work well. Any specific error when you run it ?

I don't understand how you link that to LDAP.

You installed
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/LDAP/Authenticator/
so you should follow the documentation of this extension.

This is the old LDAP authenticator and that's what the first line on
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Authentication#HLDAPAuthentication
says.

This was not present on previous version because of the bug Marius

view right on the current page, as Marius explained it's close to
impossible to know if you have or not edit right somewhere in the

same WAR inside /webapps/xwiki/

Yes LDAP authenticator is an extension so its configuration is not
part of the default xwiki.cfg file. The simplest is to copy/paste the
configuration you have on
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/LDAP/Authenticator/#HGenericLDAPconfiguration/

Alternatively you can use the LDAP Application which install an UI
(but it's missing a few advanced options) to configure LDAP in the
administration. Note that as indicated you will still need to set the
authenticator to be the LDAP one in xwiki.cfg.
