If possible I would like macbane.mywiki.org

What I fixed was adding my name Alex Swimmer in the name box under settings.

Thank you for your patience.

That makes sense, thanks. Are there any other differences between
regular packages and backup packages?

[xwiki-users] What does "author preserved" mean when importing and exporting?

2015-10-22 Thread Alex Henrie
Hi again,

I am confused about
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/ImportExport#HExportingXWikipages

When exporting, there is the option "BACKUP PACKAGE (AUTHOR
PRESERVED)", and when importing there is the option "Import as backup
package". What does it mean that the author is preserved, since the
contents of the author textbox are always saved in the package, and
there is a separate checkbox to preserve the page authorship history?

PhenoTips already prevents ordinary users from editing technical
pages, period. What I really want is to go a step further and only
allow the inline form editor (editor=inline) to be used to edit data
pages. I do not want users to be able to add classes, objects, or
wikitext to pages (editor=class, editor=object, editor=wiki) outside
of what the editor written specifically for PhenoTips would allow.

Again, this feature is not a dealbreaker, but it could avoid abuse of
the system.

If I understand you correctly, manual monitoring and moderation is the
only way to prevent a user from, for example, adding a bunch of
objects to a page that is supposed to be wikitext-only. I don't think
I would have designed XWiki with such loose restrictions, but if this
was the design philosophy from the beginning then it makes more sense.

It was confusing to me because I am actually using PhenoTips
<https://phenotips.org/>, which is based on XWiki, but in the default
configuration I can't see why anyone would want or need to input
unstructured data into this application. It seems strange that the
user can add ?editor=wiki, ?editor=object, or ?editor=class to the URL
and leave the default PhenoTips editor behind. Making scripts
unexecutable is a step in the right direction even if it does not lock
down the application in the same way that a traditional web app would.

In other words, PhenoTips is built on XWiki, but its highly structured
data model does not seem to fit the wiki paradigm. Maybe in the future
the PhenoTips developers will patch XWiki to allow greater lockdown,
but it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Thanks again,

This looks much better, thank you! I was able to successfully complete
the updated tutorial.

About the XWiki data model: It seems that "document" and "page" are
synonyms, and every page has:
- A class definition (a schema for a new type of object, not a schema
for what kinds of objects the page can have)
- A bag of objects
- A string of wikitext
- A parent

Usually a page will not have all of these. For example, a page that
has wikitext should probably not have objects attached to it too. But
it looks like there is nothing to prevent ordinary users from adding
?editor=object to the URL and attaching objects to the page anyway.
Why is it not more restrictive?

[xwiki-users] FAQ Application tutorial is incomprehensible

2015-08-24 Thread Alex Henrie
Hi,

I need to modify an XWiki application to add some functionality, but I
am new to XWiki and I am having a really hard time understanding it.
I'm running XWiki Enterprise 7.1.2. The FAQ application tutorial
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/FAQTutorialManual
looks promising, but the instructions are outdated and I can't figure
out how to get a finished product that looks like what the tutorial
has. The following instructions are particularly problematic:

In the code, change the word Main with the name of the space where you want
you FAQ pages to be created

There is no word Main.

If you click on View the template document and edit that page in wiki mode,
 you will see the following code: {{include document=FAQ.FAQClassSheet/}}

The page is blank, I don't see any code.

Use the Create top level menu (when using the Colibri skin) or the Create
Panel to create the FAQ.WebHome page

I don't see anything marked Create.

Is there an experienced XWiki developer who would be willing to go
through the FAQ application tutorial and rewrite it to make sense for
the latest version of XWiki?

More generally, it would be very helpful to have a glossary that
defines and relates terms like application, page, document,
object, property, class, template, and template provider.
These terms are used in the documentation with little or no
explanation, which adds to the confusion.

[xwiki-users] XWiki as ROOT webapp

2015-07-24 Thread Alex Martin
Hello All,

I'm struggling trying to get various resources to render or load correctly
when moving xwiki from:

/usr/share/tomcat/webapps/xwiki to
/usr/share/tomcat/webapps/ROOT

I've followed the 'Deploying as ROOT' step on the XWiki page below:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ShortURLs#HDeployingasROOT

Including setting the xwiki.cfg value:
xwiki.webapppath=

However, when restarting tomcat and testing these changes, the
logo, glyphicons fail to load as per the screenshot:
http://i.imgur.com/SUfMtjs.png

I am at wits' end trying to work this one out! Can anyone help or give me
some clue what I can check?
This is with Fedora 22 server, Java 1.8 and Tomcat 8 with XWiki 7.1.1 and
XWiki 7.2M1

Many thanks,

[xwiki-users] xwiki LDAP configuration

2015-04-09 Thread Alex Moruz

Hello,

I am trying to connect to an LDAP server using the LDAP Admin
Application and failing. The settings I have configured are as follows:

- LDAP - enabled
- LDAP SERVER ADDRESS - server IP address
- LDAP SERVER PORT - 389
- LDAP LOGIN MATCHING - cn={0},ou=people,dc=info,dc=uaic,dc=ro
- LDAP PASSWORD MATCHING - {1}
- TRY LOCAL LOGIN - yes
- UPDATE USER FROM LDAP AFTER LOGIN - yes
- LDAP USER FIELDS MAPPING - last_name=sn,first_name=givenName,email=mail

Everything else is left blank, and in the xwiki.cfg file, the only
uncommented line is
xwiki.authentication.authclass=com.xpn.xwiki.user.impl.LDAP.XWikiLDAPAuthServiceImpl

Every time I try to log in using LDAP credentials the attempt fails with
the log entry given at the end of the message. I have also tried the
exact same settings in the xwiki.cfg file, with the same error message.

The server I am using is Tomcat, and the xwiki version is 6.4.

Best regards,
Alex Moruz

[xwiki-users] Navigation Panel

2012-08-07 Thread Alex Meier

Hello,
I want to ask whether there is a way to configurate the navigaton-bar? I'd like
to klick the headword and then the webhome comes up AND the next deeper level
in the navigation-bar pops open.
Is there any possibility to handle that?

Furthermore in the navigation-bar the first link should be webhome link every
time. Can i create a ranking of links in the navigation bar?
Can i make the navigation panel not dynamic but static? I mean that you manage
the Spaces and Pages on your own.

Thanks for your answers

[xwiki-users] Video inserting with JWPlayer doesn't works.

2012-04-19 Thread Alex
Hey guys, I have a problem with the JW Player, that you can use for inserting
videos into your pages.

I tried it the first way of the guide, where you have to upload the two
files (player.swf and jwplayer.js)
to the server. I thought it could be the attachment files of the page.

Than i tried to include the video, but it doesn't work.

Can someone explain, how to work with the jw player in xwiki?

Thanks

[xwiki-users] How to set a class property as topFilter in the livetable?

2012-04-10 Thread Alex
Hey,

i've a problem, i made a class with some properties and on the class sheet
i have put
a livetable that shows the docs from another class.
Now i want to filter the livetable that is in the first class on every side
with a property of it.

But i dont know how to get the property of the first class and to set it as
a variable to the topFilter of the livetable (shows the docs from an other
class)?

Here is the code:

Re: [xwiki-users] Watchlist doesnt show the watched sides

2012-02-28 Thread Alex
I have found something thats is a little bit strange to me.

In the XWiki.UserSheet there is the following code. There is a reference to
the XWikiUserWatchListSheet
but this Sheet or the class XWikiUserWatchList does not excist in the
Classes i can see.

#if($isMyProfile  $hasWatch)
  #set($discard = $categories.add(['watchlist',
$msg.get('platform.core.profile.category.watchlist'),
'XWiki.XWikiUserWatchListSheet', 'icons/silk/star.gif']))
#end

Is that normal or could it be that ther is something wrong with it?

Yeah even with an admin acc i get the same problem.

I know how to get the sides instead, but thats no solution.
I have to watch after the Objects for each user profile-side, where the
sides were put in.
But thats not the way it should work.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to request a wiki for our project.

I'm writing as an enquiry officer with Suffolk Libraries.

We are currently researching the feasability of maintaining staff handbooks and
library procedures in the form of a wiki. This would allow us to instantly
share the handbook with all who need it. It would also facilitate internal and
public discussion of the way we run our libraries and what are the best ways to
deal with issues as they come up.

We also feel there is scope for fostering co-operation between public libraries
in general through this project - again by facilitating debate and the sharing
of technical know-how.

We are attracted to xwiki because of its LGPL license and would be very
interested in running our wiki on your servers for the duration of this pilot.

My username is AlexSassmannshausen. The server name we are hoping for is either
sls.myxwiki.org or suffolklibs.myxwiki.org (depending on whether the first is
already taken).

Please let me know if you have any further questions or requirements prior to
creating the wiki for us.

Some more information:

I tried to manually edit my profile and added the following:

WatchListClass 0: Scheduler.WatchListHourlyNotifier

However I'm not getting any notifications.

My email setup is working. I'm using $xwiki.mailsender.sendTextMessage in
other parts of the Wiki and it works great.

Notifier you have chosen.

Re: [xwiki-users] Troubleshooting Watchlist Email notification

2011-03-09 Thread Alex Jakobsen
I can pick a notifier and it adds the correct notifier to my profile - I can
see the Notifier listed when I edit my profile via the Object editor.

I looked at the code for : XWikiUserWatchListSheet and this code:
#set($currentNotifier = $doc.display('interval', 'view')) results in an
empty string so nothing is displayed. Also if I go back to edit mode the
current Notifier is not selected in the drop down list.

[xwiki-users] Troubleshooting Watchlist Email notification

2011-03-08 Thread Alex Jakobsen
Hi,

I'm having some problems with the Email notification for Watchlists.
When I go into my preferences and select a notifier for my watched
lists (hourly notifcations for example) and click save view, the
selection doesn't stick. It shows a blank under Notifier in my
Watchlist preferences.

I'm on XWiki Enterprise 2.7.33656

Any ideas?

Thanks,

[xwiki-users] Custom Recently Modified list to exclude profile pages

2011-02-07 Thread Alex Jakobsen
Hi,

We are currently using LDAP for authentication and configured it so
the users profile page gets updated with the latest information from
our Active Directory. This results in the Recently Modified panel
mainly listing user profile pages instead of regular pages.

I would like to modify the Recently Modified Panel, so it excludes the
above mentioned profile pages. Is there a simple way to distinguish a
profile page from any other page?

Thanks,

 x = new Foo();
 x.fooProperty = $fooProperty;

 public Foo fromXWiki(String serialized) {Eval.me(serialized);}
 }

 class Bar {
 public Foo barProperty = new Foo();
 }

So I could have an XWiki class XwBar with a field barProperty
containing text that created a Foo, and while navigating a site that
uses an XwBar, deserialize barProperty into a Foo, possibly rinse and
repeat with its properties, and then display it some way.

 Is this what you mean?

[xwiki-users] LDAP issues with XEM

2010-09-01 Thread Alex Bradbeer
Hi everyone. 2 issues (sort of related):

1:

We have installed XEM 2.4 on Windows Server 2003 using Jetty and mySQL 5, and
have successfully got LDAP to work on the main wiki (authenticating against
Active Directory) - the user's first/last name appears in the top right (and if
they navigate to their profile, the AD info is there). However, when we create
a child/sub wiki (and import the standard .xar), the LDAP authentication
appears to work, but the same level of user information is not pulled through
(only the username appears - no first name, last name or profile details etc).
Is there something else we need to set up?

Ideally we would like to set the entire farm up so that if a user logs into
one, they had their accounts made in each. Alternatively, the ability to import
all users and set up accounts would be great - we can then pre-allocate users
to specific spaces etc (any news on re-developing the 'Import users from LDAP'
plugin?!). We've found the xwiki.preferences class objects page - but are a bit
confused!

2:

In addition, the process of creating child wikis seems to have an issue with
the main administrator (Admin/admin) - when logged in (to one of the child
wikis) the 'Preferences' and 'Profile' menu items (in the top right) refer to
'localhost', not the assigned alias/dns...

Can anyone point me in the right direction?! (Apologies if this seems a bit of
a locked-down approach to using wikis - but as an educational institution, we
need to keep the editing of content secure!).

Thanks,

Alex

Removing XML-escaping makes you vulnerable to XSS (cross-site-scripting)

 Hi,
   I have user name with stressed character as è, é, à.. .
I noticed that when they publish a post on the blog application, the
associated rss feed contains the dc-creator tag with XML encoded entities in
 this way:

 dc:creatorJulian Denamp;#224;/dc:creator

Is there a way to modify this behavior (many rss viewers do not parse the
 entities L )?

A similar thing happens when I export a PDF document: the author of the page
is correct on the HTML page of the wiki document (on the HTML script I have

 Last modified by span class=wikilinka
 href=/wiki/bin/view/XWiki/denaJulian Denà/a/span
 )

but on the PDF document I've the XML encoded entity.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: [xwiki-users] [Proposal] Rights Management UI

2010-06-04 Thread Alex Busenius
Hi Caty,

This version is really cool, just some minor comments:

When I mouse over some right icon (FF 3.6), the dropdown menu with
allow/deny/etc. is shown, but this menu is very hard to see, because it
has almost the same color as the background and the icons are right
above the right icons from the line below.

The popup with the hint what right it is and why it is inherited is
really helpful, but to open it I need to hit the small triangle near to
the icon, otherwise only the dropdown menu is shown (but maybe its just
because it is not the final version). This might be quite hard for some
people.

I'd made the icons larger (at least 24x24) and add more contrast (right
now inherited rights look like disabled GUI controls to me), especially
to the dropdown menu, view right icon and inherited right arrow from the
menu.

 Hi Alex,

yes I know - I reused existing classes from XWiki, didn't made anything
custom, that's why is acting like this.

The desired interaction will be on hover (icon or arrow) show the

The main disadvantage of this proposal is it's contrast: ColorThemes
 variables (highlightColor, secondaryBackgroundColor) and icons.

I choose the icons form Silk set, because they are used everywhere in XWiki.
The rationale was the consistency and lookfeel. That's why they all are
 16x16.

If we choose this version as the final one, but we are not pleased with
these icons, we need to find another set (maybe as you suggested with 24x24
size) or create it from scratch (then we need to think about the icon
 representation).

The new set should have high contrast between inherited/overridden state.

I see, this complicates things, but I would really prefer larger icons,
lets see what others say...

How about adding a dark border to the dropdown menu or changing its
color to the same one used for Export menu etc.? If the icons are not
transparent (in the middle), this would also improve the contrast a lot.

it takes a lot of space. What if those rights names would be replaced by

Unregistered users | [+V] [+C] [+R] [-D] [-A] [-P] [-CC] | | [-E]

 IMPORTANT:
Before choosing a logo based on your personal preference, please try to
also ask yourself the following questions:
 - Is it distinctive?
 - Is it easy to remember and recognize?
 - Is the design scalable? Could it (or parts of it) be successfully used
in a 16X16 icon? Would it look good on a very large poster?
 - Can it be used (as it is, or adapted) on both light and dark backgrounds?
 - What would it look like in black and white (not just grayscale)? It's
ok if some details are lost, but it needs to still look attractive and
 keep the main features.

Motivating your vote also helps better understand what qualities a logo

Also note that the designs are not final, the selected proposal will be

By the way, which browser / OS are you using?

Re: [xwiki-users] content being duplicated

2009-11-17 Thread Alex Voss

Hi Guillaume,

I have removed the duplicate content using the wiki editor and will use
this one for a while, then switch back to WYSIWYG if it works to see if
I can reproduce the problem. I know that it does not happen every time I
edit with WYSIWYG (which I normally use).

More than happy to add to your evidence. I am using CentOS 5.4 with
MySQL 5.0, Tomcat 6.0 with .war deployment of xwiki enterprise 2.0.2. My
brower is Firefox 3.5.5 on a Mac.

Best,

Alex

 Interesting problem indeed :-)

Parts of the content of the page get duplicated
 on that same page, see:

 https://e-research.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/site/bin/view/Research+in+a+Connected+World+Book/
(I will leave this unmodified for a few days)

This is not just an artefact in the output. When I edit the content, the
duplication is there. I can remove it and it disappears but the problem
seems to re-occur. Any ideas what might be going on?

Are you editing that page with the wiki editor or with the WYSIWYG editor?
Can you confirm whether it happens with both editors or only with one of
 them?

I think I've seen this behavior take place with the WYSIWYG editor in the
past due to wrongly closed links and content that got duplicated in link
labels but I haven't been able to reproduce it in a while...

The best would be for you to provide a full step-by-step description of
what you're doing when you edit that page and how to reproduce the problem
 locally.

I've tried reproducing your issue on

able to make it happen so far.
