Re: [libreoffice-users] DOWNLOAD HELP WITH IMPRESS

2015-04-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
It's unlikely that you are missing anything other than Base but it might be
awkward to access some of the others.

There are several other ways of opening blank documents. if you could try
one of these and let us know what happens that might help us figure out
what is going wrong. Hopefully it's just a case of getting the right
short-cuts sorted out.

1. One way of forcing it is to just open something you can open. Then go
up to the icon-bar at the top and click on the little triangle beside the
blue or green icon. This should give a drop-down list of all the different
modules/programs. Hopefully you will see the gold/yellow one for impress
there and clicking on that should open a blank(ish) document using the
default template.

2. You might be able to do something similar from the File menu and choose
New from there.

3. Another way is to open a document in either Calc or Writer and then use
File - Close
Instead of quitting out of the whole of LibreOffice this should take you to
the Splash Screen that lists the most recent documents as well as giving
a list of all the different modules/programs and allowing you to open any
of them but as a new empty document.

Please let us know what result you get with one of those methods.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Download earlier version of libreoffice

2014-02-06 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
There was a 3.6.x branch but that is old now. The next was 4.0.x.

The question is why you think you need 3.8.x? Is it for stability?
If so then ...

When a branch is new some things don't always work this is around the
3.6.0, 4.0.0, 4.1.0, 4.2.0
and the press (magazines, podcasts and popular media) grabs hold of
that and grumbles about it. As a branch matures the things that
didn't work usually get fixed. So by the
3.6.2, 4.0.2, 4.1.2, 4.2.2
Most things usually work. It's about the same as a Service Pack 1
for those people familiar with Microsoft terms. The press has lost
interest and seldom bothers to update their articles. Although they
often do report on what MS's SPs do. Eventually each branch reaches
maturity although we each have a different opinion of when that
generally happens and each branch is slightly different anyway. I
think we mostly agree that it has happened by the
3.6.4, 4.0.4, 4.1.4, 4.2.4
and this is roughly the equivalent of an Sp2. Around then is when a
new branch with tons of new features gets released and the new branch
starts again from the x.x.0. LibreOffice then continues each branch
on until they reach the x.x.6.

LibreOffice develops VERY fast so it's reasonably easy to stick with
an x.x.4-6 and then upgrade to the next y.x.4-6.

It's just that newspapers and magazines find they are more likely to
sell well when they can find problems and criticise so they have to
avoid the x.x.4, x.x.5 and x.x.6s because if they did reviews of those
there would be so little to grumble about.

Regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Download fails

2013-09-08 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Getting a new web-browser is hardly similar to knocking the whole house down.
It's more like just replacing the door rather than repainting it.  Hmm, it's
not even that much because you can easily have 2 or more web-browsers on the
same system and then just just which you feel like using at any particular
moment.

Yes, renaming the file-ending is easy for some of us but actually on a Windows
machine it can be quite tough because the default settings are to hide those
endings.  So renaming ends up with a file called
blah.msi.man
except you don't see the .man so when the file keeps doing the same thing it's
just not easy to see why.

Going back to the analogy re-painting can be a pain because you have to either
1.  leave a little border all around round the edge so that as the paint dries
you can leave the door shut
2.  when you next try to open the door it's stuck and rips some of the paint
off the edges but leaves other bits
3.  leave your door open to let your neighbours and passers-by in.  With
oil-based gloss that's 24 hours.
So what initially seems the easiest and cheapest answer can easily turn out to
be more of a pain (and more expensive if you nodded off and your neighbours
nicked your stereo).

Regards from
Tom :)

If you don't like the colour of your front door,
one solution is indeed to demolish your house and
build a new one.  Or you can just repaint the
front door.  Just rename .man to .msi.

different words meaning snow or ice whereas
languages from hotter countries might not even have a word for it at all.

This is a hoax.  See Wikipedia: In fact, the
Eskimo–Aleut languages have about the same number
of distinct word roots referring to snow as
English does   Buy yourself this for

Which ISO file?
The NA-DVD .iso file is always burned before it is uploaded.

I know that I have tried installing some package on Win7 Home Premium

that error on Win7 Professional.

I have not found any issues with the LO Windows installs, so I do not

it says, makes LibreOffice start quicker by having some portion

Hi :)
You can turn off the Quickstarter more permanently by

Tools - Options - Memory
and untick the tick-box at the bottom of the page there.

Alternatively i think you can just delete it from the start-up menu but you
kinda have to know how to do that sort of thing in your particular OS to try
that route.  It's better to just switch it off in LO or, as Joel says just
switch it off as a one-time-only just to let you do the upgrade.

Had a torrent do that before, but not one from LO.  I was told there were a lot
of errors in the packets of the torrent and the constant re-downloading of
the packets to get ones that are error-free added to my file size the system
stated I downloaded was almost 90% more than the actual file I ended up with.

I wonder if you had a bad torrent connection so the system kept asking for
data packets over again.

[libreoffice-users] Download LibO_3.4.4_Win_x86_all_lang.exe?

2011-11-29 Thread Spencer Graves

  1. LibreOffice Downloading Instructions mention an all_lang
installer (www.libreoffice.org/download/instructions
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/instructions/). Is this an option
that is not available with LibreOffice_3.4.4 for Windows (esp. Windows
7)? If it is available, how can I find it? (I remember previously
having problems with multiple languages in LIbreOffice.)

  2. Where can I find instructions on how to install multiple
languages? (When I installed 3.4.3, I spent a couple of days figuring
all that out. Unfortunately, I can't find them now.)

  Thanks,
  Spencer

I believe you want LibO_3.4.4_Win_x86_install_multi.exe for all languages.

Sorry, I am not sure myself, try searching the list archives.

  Thanks,

Using either Firefox or Safari when I press either of those two buttons the

Typing   //www.libreoffice.org/download directly in the address field gives
 me a 404 page.
 This is 100% reproducible.

Hi Peter,

I can't reproduce your problem: under Firefox as well as Safari, the
LibO site functions normally (download, international sites...)
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 on a 2.93 GHz iMac.
Maybe the site was temporarily unavailable?

Win 7 Home Premium, FireFox 4, works like a champ. Something local or
temporary most likely.

Richmond Hill, just north of you, running 10.6.7, Firefox Safari, no
problems. Maybe we need someone else who hasn't upgraded to Snow Leopard to
confirm this.

Sophi gave me the direct server page and that works just fine.

[libreoffice-users] Download

2011-04-16 Thread Bill Robison
Where do I click to download LibreOffice

This is what I am looking at http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ I am just
missing something obvious and I downloaded the Help Pack but when I click
install it goes back to installing the help pack and then finds that I have
already installed the help pack.

Obviously I am just missing something simple, but I am really frustrated.

Please advise

Bill

[libreoffice-users] download libreoffice

2011-02-23 Thread Andrey

[Russian - utf8]
MS Office.

[English - sorry, but only Google translation]
Very well that the site offers to download a new office, but the
proposed method greatly harms the party politics. The fact that the
requested download .deb packages and install them instead to create a
repository of the same package. But the question arises: what are we,
back to the methods of working on a computer taken from Windows? But if
someone from the users of this method may seem more convenient, they may
also remember that in Windows and other things are more convenient.
Thus, we turn the hands of sympathy users face to Windows and back to
alternative operating systems. In addition, they have a similar
perception very quickly extrapolates from operating systems to office
suites. Simply put, increasing sympathy for MS Office.
