Re: [libreoffice-users] trouble installing fonts to use with Libre Office

2016-09-26 Thread Sigrid Carrera
Hi Niklas, all,

sorry for the late reply, I was busy and had only very little time
available.

I've made a screenshot, that shows more exact what I see:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4yUNaph-X3ZdlFnTFllUUFhQU5MMVRRcWRNNTlQeG9EMnZB

The really weird thing is, this problem occurs on my private laptop at
home. On my workstation at the office with an older version of Ubuntu
2014.04 (LTS) and the corresponding (older) LibreOffice version, I see
everything correct. Fonts are installed on both computers in the very same
way...

I hope it is more clear now. :)

Thanks for any ideas.

Sigrid

Re: [libreoffice-users] trouble installing fonts to use with Libre Office

2016-09-19 Thread Niklas Johansson
Hi Sigrid

Which weights are missing. If it is the bold and italic versions of
the fonts then there is really nothing to fix because the get mapped to the
bold/italic buttons of their respective "regular" font.

For example if you install Work Sans
https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Work+Sans

You will se a lot of weights of the font like Work Sans Black, Work Sans
Thin etc. However you will not see any Work Sans Bold in the list of fonts
but if you use the font called Work Sans and press the bold button
LibreOffice will automatically use the Work Sans Bold font. One way to
check this out is to export to pdf and then inspect the fonts that is in
use.

If other weights than bold and italic are missing then it would be
interesting to dig deeper into why they are not available.

When installing fonts on Ubuntu, these are picked up by "fontconfig"
and are made available to applications like LibreOffice.
You might install new fonts from the Software Centre or you might
place them manually
into the personal .fonts/ subdirectory.

Now, if a style of a font is not visible in LibreOffice it could be
due to several issues.
Can you give a specific example of a font (preferably, one with a
liberal licence) so we can check?
There is a good list of such fonts at https://fonts.google.com/,
therefore check whether any of your
new fonts in that list and prefer one of those.

You may be able to find (and install) desired fonts from the Synaptic
Package Manager. After opening the Synaptic Package Manager, on the left
panel there are entries for Fonts, Fonts (multi-verse) and Fonts
(universe). Or enter "font" in the Quick Filter search box.
