I'm trying to run GNS3 on VBox hypervisor. GNS3 is a network emulator which
uses its own GNS3 VM .ova to power the emulator. I'm getting the error when I
try to sync the emulator to the VM " VirtualBox doesn't support nested
virtualization". When I escape this screen, I then get

GNS3 is meant to be run on host, side-by-side with VBox, not inside VBox.

One of those, is that I would like to run Cisco VIRL in a VirtualBox VM, but I
am at the same point as you are, i.e. VirtualBox does not support nested
You can read the change logs.
IMO performance in general doesn't improve very much, except for
specific use-cases. What improves is better support for newer
operating systems (esp new Linuxes), and some nice-to-have features
like file Drag-n-Drop.
