Forward causes mail to go into Infinite loop

2001-08-22 Thread Divyank Turakhia

I have a virtual domain called xyz.com and a pop account called sales . I
have installed vpopmail + qmailadmin . In qmail admin I can login as the
user sales and create a redirect for my pop account. This would create a
.qmail file with the email address that I choose to forward all mails coming
to this POP Account.

The Problem arises when i choose my redirect as the same as my POP Mail
Address. i.e. the contents of my /home/vpopmail/domains/xyz.com/sales/.qmail
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] , then all mail coming to [EMAIL PROTECTED] will go in an
infinite loop. This will keep adding to the disk space usage and make the
disk completely full. this happened to one of my servers - a small text
mail managed to cover up 16gb of HDD space all in /var/qmail/queue/mess dir
in just one night.

How do i make sure that the email is cleaned up if it forwards to itself and
not go into an infinite loop???

Hi,

Its more than obvious i wont do such a thing. I have 100's of clients

There r many dodo's who manage it using there qmailadmin interface. You
get 1 such idiot out of every 500-600 domains and there it goes. 1 such
account can cause havoc for the remaining domains. And if someone comes
to know of this then he can crash the system any time he likes.
My disk went full. Personal Experience

maildrop vdelivermail - top level filtering

2001-08-22 Thread Stephen Palmer

I have successfuly employed maildrop for mail filtering with the latest dev
relase of vpopmail. yay. However, it still remains a mystery to me how to
filter mail for a domain at the TOP LEVEL, without being forced to use
maildrop as the delivery agent for the entire domain. I would like to see
it work like this:

(domain)(user) (deliver, or filter if user
configures it)
qmail-smtp - maildrop - vdelivermail - maildrop
   - /Maildir/

maildrop doesn't know about .qmail aliases, so if I use maildrop to deliver
mail from the domain level they are totally ignored at the user level. i.e.,
once I use maildrop, I have to use it to drop the mail somewhere, it seems.

I have tried passing the mail on to vdelivermail from the maildrop filter,
with something like this:

to |/var/nfsmnt/mailroot/bin/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mailbox

but that causes a delivery 732: failure: lseek_error_29/lseek_errno=29/

So, my question is, is it possible to filter mail with maildrop at the top
level of a domain, and continue to use vdelivermail to handle the actually
mail delivery, possibly invoking maildrop again at the user level? If so,
how?

Slow to connect

2001-08-22 Thread Kit Halsted

My vpopmail server is very slow to connect right now. I have
customers calling the office bitching I can see it when I try to
check my mail. Unfortunately, I'm clueless as to how to troubleshoot
it, much less fix it. Using ssh to connect to the box works
instantly. Telnetting to port 110 from my box at home shows where the
delay is:

-
yabox# telnet athena.interdyne.net 110
Trying 64.124.170.170...
Connected to athena.interdyne.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
user [EMAIL PROTECTED]

#It sits there for ~60 seconds, then proceeds normally.

pass
+OK
list
+OK
.
quit
+OK
Connection closed by foreign host.
-

My log tells me nothing; lots of messages went through for local
(virtual) domains and for remote (secondary MX) domains, some
messages did not go through for remote domains due to transient
failures, but nothing to indicate why authentication should take so
long. Top/ps showed between 1 10 instances of tcpserver -H -R 0
110... running while the problem was going on. I'm stumped here. This
has happened twice before, but both other times the logs told me that
a message was rejected for a secondary domain due to size
restrictions. Even assuming that that was the problem today, I don't
know what to do about it, since the databytes control file doesn't do
anything until a message has been written to disk. Can anyone point
me to better troubleshooting methods or an explanation for what's
happening?

Thanks,
-Kit

Re: Forward causes mail to go into Infinite loop

2001-08-22 Thread Einar Bordewich

I'm not sure if there is anything to fix or solve.
When a mail is delivered to the account, the mail will be stamped with a
Delivered-To: tag. That way qmail knows that the mail is looped, and will
bounce the mail.

I see from the ChangLog that vdelivermail supports Delivered-To back to at
least 3.4.11-2, so this is supported in 4.9.10.

Remove the forwarding or .qmail file in
/home/vpopmail/domains/xyz.com/sales/, send [EMAIL PROTECTED] a mail. Check the
heading for this:

Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If it's not there on top of the heading, there is something wrong. If it's
there, no way that the mail is looping.

NB! I'm using extra scripts delivering mail directly to subfolders with help
from maildirdeliver. This piece of software does not add the Delivered-To
line to the mailheader, so in front of this program I have to use preline -f
like this:
|preline -f maildirdeliver
/home/vpopmail/domains/bordewich.net/postmaster/Maildir/
to get the Delivered-To added.

PS! I prefer replies to the list, not directly to my address. Other might
need the info!

Question aboout .qmail-default

2001-08-22 Thread Henrik Hudson

Hey List-

This isn't exactly vpopmail related, but sorta :) I had this working awhile
back, rebuilt my box and now I can't get it to work again. It is explained
below.

OS: FreeBSD 4.3
Qmail: 1.03
VPOPMAIL: 4.10.32
Courir: 1.3.9

Problem: I can't get mail rerouted to another mailbox using the .qmail-default

Example:
I added a domain, domain.com
I added a [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I added a .qmail-junk (which I want to bounce)
I added a .qmail-default with:
| /usr/local/qmail/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

when I do this, vdelivermail segfaults and spits out a core dump. If I just
throw an email address in there:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

mail doesn't get delivered at all to any of the above users.

If I send an email to junk it bounces correctly. If I send an email to test it
get's delivered, if send an email to crap it segfaults.

Any ideas?

Thanks list!

Henrik

UPDATE: Re: Question aboout .qmail-default

2001-08-22 Thread Henrik Hudson

Hello List-

I figured it out, but I think it may be a bug or the docs are a little
outdated??? or I read them wrong..wouldn't be the first time.

I have my domain.com directory and then I have:
.qmail-junk - | /path/to/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mail
which works and then:
.qmail-default - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
If I remove the it doesn't work. The docs state that you can remove the

if the first char is a letter or number? Also, doing:
.qmail-default: | /path/to/vdelivermail '' [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
.qmail-default: | /path/to/vdelivermail '' [EMAIL PROTECTED]
doesn't work either. The first one segfaults and the second says bad
syntax in the logs. Now according to the docs the first one should work,
shouldn't it?

Thanks for all the help!

Henrik
