Client RMAN backup ran on client server corvette via master server stingray.
Tapes were removed and shipped to another location for RMAN recovery.
Backup was done via allocating 6 channels.
Recovery is only using 3 channels. Why?
All boxes are Netbackup
Number of channels is controlled by the script file on the Oracle DB
server. I would expect that this needs to be edited on your recovery server.

It's been several years since I've had tape, but it sounds to me like the
DBA has done everything correctly for 6 channels. The problem, if you can
call it a problem, is that the backup server (media server) has only or is
allowed only 3 tape drives for the restore. On the other hand, perhaps

RMAN backup was 35TB across 40 tapes.
Backup is claimed to have used 6 streams.
All masters clients/media servers and oracle instances share the same RMAN
catalog.
This is a disaster recovery of a 35 TB database from one master backup
solution/client to another.

This sounds like your issue here:
3 streams running.
3 streams waiting on tapes that are in the 3 active streams.
Unless I read that wrong, your 6 streams are on the same tapes. That means
that only one stream from each tape is going to be restored. Once your
other streams complete, these should
Well...my initial analysis for the DBA was that RMAN was allocating 6 channels
but 3 active streams were spinning tapes and the 3 waiting streams were waiting
on tapes that were currently being restored from. This didn't make the DBA
happy and wanted all 6 streams to be streaming data.

6 channels allocated for the recovery (rman).
If it's only using 3 streams actively now...and it gets past one stream waiting
on another, will it every get to using 6 streams? How does RMAN deal with that?
Hi,
Part of the problem in this scenario is if multiplexing is not being
used (or MPX=1), depending on how the RMAN restore works (make sure
there are 6 channels allocated from the DBA perspective) and since
there are 6 jobs in the activity monitor, it sounds like that is
already in-place.
The
Import the tapes?
No.
Didn't do it before either.
Is there a requirement to import the RMAN tapes?
