Re: [Veritas-ha] Resolution: CVM nodeid error
Hello all! The case is over. Just a few words about the way I could solve the problem 1. The original node names nodeid-s were restored as they were from the very beginning (mkdb01 nodeid 0, mkdb02 nodeid 1). But vxfen module could no be configured. Instead it produced VXFEN vxfenconfig NOTICE Driver will use SCSI-3 compliant disks. Thu May 6 11:56:53 MSD 2010 cluster fencing. will retry. sleeping for 21 Thu May 6 11:57:14 MSD 2010 calling regular vxfenconfig Thu May 6 11:57:19 MSD 2010 return value from above operation is 10 Thu May 6 11:57:19 MSD 2010 output was VXFEN vxfenconfig ERROR V-11-2-1016 There exists the potential for a preexisting split-brain The coordinator disks list no nodes which, are in the current membership. However, they, also list nodes which are not in the, current membership. I/O Fencing Disabled! The first thing to be done is to clean the keys. I tried to do it with vxfenclearpre and vxfenadm -r all -f /etc/vxfendg showed no keys on disks but vxfenconfig -c could not configure vxfen driver with same error : The coordinator disks list no nodes which, are in the current membership. However, they, also list nodes which are not in the, current membership. At last it came to me to perform vxfentsthdw on disks (EMC Clariion) . And only after that all the keys were cleaned out of disks and fence drivers were configured on both nodes And CVM started! So I can make two conclusions about SF 5.1 P1 for Oracle RAC on RedHat Linux : 1. Changig nodeids can lead to a unability to configure CVM cluster. 2. vxfenclearpre cannot sometimes remove the old reservation keys. vxfenttsthdw can do it for sure. Kind regards! Pavel Hello all! I see a strange problem with my VCS for RAC configuration SF5.1 patch1 patch 3 for RedHat Linux. I had two-node configuration: mkdb01 and mkdb02 with nodeid 0 and 1 correspondingly. But the master (mkdb01) crashed and it was reinstalled. The second node (mkdb02) was re-configured manually to get nodeid 0 (this is a had-been nodeid of mkdb01). It continued to operate as a single-RAC under VCS SF after reboot. Now I try to restore two-node RAC configuration with mkdb01 with nodeid 1 . So nodeids are changed. The main problem appeared when I tried to add mkdb01 into CVM group again. CVMCluster resource on mkdb01 node cannot start. Then I changed the node name mkdb01 for mkdb03 and nodeid 1 for nodeid 2. failover from IP to IP is a good thing, agree with you. But if we could use steward as a mediator and an arbitrator for cluster service groups it might give you more possibilities for auto failover in CONNECTED mode Gene Henriksen gene_henrik...@symantec.com написано 14.05.2009 15:33:28: Having taught Global Clustering and its predecessor, I would prefer to see WAC have the ability to failover from one IP to another or make multiple connections over 2 or 3 IPs for higher redundancy. [Veritas-ha] steward question
Hello all! Just a small question. Is there any way to check up steward communication with remote clusters? I know the only way to do it - tststew utility, But this utility woks just like a ping. This is not enough for me to be sure that in a case of split brain everything will go right way. Any other logs, messages? Clusters should produce some messages about remote steward process. Is that so? I couldn't fnd any messages in vcs logs about steward. And some more questions. Is possible to use one steward process for two global clusters? If I have a steward version 4.1 is it possbile to use correctly with VCS 5.0 MP3 and VCS 4.1 global clusters at the same time? Thank you a lot! [Veritas-ha] Cluster Management Console - peer-to-peer question
Hello all! My question is about Cluster Management Console - CMC 5.0. It is stated in the release notes that only two CMC-servers are supported in peer-to-peer configuration. One CMC-server must be located on site C and should be able to play its role in two global clusters (one global cluster is about A--C sites and the second global cluster is about B-C sites). [Veritas-ha] LVMVG-agent works with 2 VIO-s
Hello all! There is smth more to the item. I've used two VIOs for a single shared disk. I've removed reserve_policy for the shared disk on these two VIO-s and created LVM group on that disk. One node (node1) can see the disk from the VIO1 and the other node (node2) sees the same disk from the VIO2. Than I do varyoffvg one the active node and my LVM cluster group is switching over to the second node. No problems! The same thing happens when rebooting active VIO . (The only thing is about rootvg on the nodes - if you get your root disks from VIO you must sync your rootdg after VIO reboot) So I don't see any problem if reserve_policy is set to no_reserve on the both VIO-s Regards, Pavel ___ Veritas-ha maillist - Veritas-ha@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-ha

Re: [Veritas-ha] Veritas Volume Replicator in Replicated DataCluster question
Hello Jim! Thank you for the answer. But if I have a choice for replication mode in global cluster it can be useful to have the same thing in RDC. Let it be not up-to-date data on the Secondary , but it is still consistent. :) So the application can be started. And we should take the bunker into consideration! The bunker uses synchronous connection with Primary SRL, so the asynchronous Secondary site can have up-to-date data from the bunker. So if we use bunker and the bunker agent it is quite possible to take RDC in asynchronous mode. With best regards, Pavel We do not support an automatic failover to out of date secondary. So RDC is sync only. If you need async, you need to not treat the the replication like a shared disk, and instead treat it like replication.
