Enhancement request: Creating working copy bookmarks from the CLI with 'open'

2013-07-19 Thread John Burwell
When opening Versions with the 'open' command, I think kVersions should
create a Repository bookmark for remote protocol handlers (http/s://,
svn+ssh://, svn://, etc.), and a Working Copy bookmark for a local file://
URI or pathname.

When I try using something like 'open -a Versions.app ~/Sites/project', the
result is an attempt to create a repository bookmark using a file:// URL,
which is undesirable. If I wanted to create a repository bookmark to a
local repository, I would use svn://, no?

I'm big on automation. I have a script that provisions an SVN repository,
creates a new project, checks out the project to my ~/Sites folder, and
updates my hosts file and apache configuration for local development. The
missing link is adding the working copy bookmark to Versions.

Apart from this, anyone have tips on automating Versions in general?

Thanks,

j

Looks like the best plan for now is to revert to 1.0.7 in the mean
 time.  I found it here:http://cdn.versionsapp.com/Versions_1.0.7_73.zip

Then click skip this version when it asks you if you want to update
 to 1.0.8.  :-)

  So, i did a test :
  - I did a checkout of the previous revision ( -r357 in my current
  test )
  - I found the file coming from the same revision that Versions had
  exported for comparison :
  /var/folders/i5/i5ZFocJqEoGzV8-r0frgVk+++TI/-Tmp-/com.picodev.Versions/
  header.rev357.jsp

When i make a comparison between the two files coming from the same
  revision, i have differences !

I think that Versions is no longer exporting asked revisions for
  comparison in the History Log.

Last test : when i use the contextual menu Compare differences...,
  it's working well !

Well, i'll now use this Compare différences... menu...

This is a frequently asked question. Versions uses the file associations from

Re: Is it for me?

2009-06-21 Thread john

Hi James!

Yes, I am certain you are on the right path. First thing I want to
tell you: don't get frustrated over this issue too easily.
Understanding the concepts of version control can seem cumbersome at
first. Yet I must say I would not want to work without it anymore and
I am sure most users get to this point rather sooner than later.

This here might give you a good start: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/index.en.html
This is said to be a good quick-start for Mac OS X too:
http://www.rubyrobot.org/tutorial/subversion-with-mac-os-x

I am afraid most subversion tutorials rely on some basic knowledge of
unix operating systems. Good news is: you don't have to work that way.
If you prefer a graphical interface or just want a better integration
with the graphical interface of your operating system, that is what
tools like Versions are for. I must say, I don't remember the setup
anymore, but I think subversion is bundled with Versions, isn't it?

Greetings!

 Hi all,

I am a newbie to all this SVN.
I already have a site set-up and running, but wanted to create a
second site, as a testing area, then when approved and tested we can
move those file over to the live site. Would versions (and coda which
i'm using to develop in) help me achieve this the best way? If so how,
what should I read up on etc?

 Any help welcome...

Re: versions (or svn) using wrong path

2009-03-24 Thread john

Nobody any idea?

Well, I could narrow it down a little bit. I usually commit all
changed files at once. Now I tried every single one individually and
found out, that the text files in the top directory get committed
correctly. The ones triggering the error are jpgs and gifs in a
subdirectory called img. Has anyone ever heard of such a problem?

 Hi to all!

Very strange thing I got here all of a sudden. When I try to commit, I
 get the following message:

 Commit failed (details follow):
Unable to open an ra_local session to URL
 Unable to open repository 'file://localhost/Users/USERNAME/Documents'

Strange thing here is, that this is not the whole path I have in the
 bookmark, which is
 file://localhost/Users/USERNAME/Documents/Development/repositories/PROJECTNAME

Can anyone help me solve or at least narrow this problem? Google
didn't help much. Results refer to a wrong path given, not a wrong
path used with the correct one given.

 Greetings an TIA!

 John
