[VFB] Bobbin

2013-05-17 Thread Alan Di Somma
Folks.I have just been looking thru eBay-Feathercraft-KStockard-The Fly Shop- and any other places looking for a specific bobbin. The name escapes me, but it is something like Liecht and it is a very expensive automatic bobbin. Has any one ever tied with one or knows anything about it?

Alan, The bobbin I have switched to several years ago is the Rite Bobbin, and may not be the one you are looking for but. I enjoy placing a regular sized spool on it and not having to cobble fill from an odd sized one. the two big things I enjoy are the ceramic tip (I sometimes get a bit heavy

Denny: I sell the Rite bobbin at Bass Pro but have not tied with one. I used to have a Norvise with the automatic bobbins but never was able to adjust it properly. The one I was asking about is supposed to be easier to use. I saw one advertised in one of the fly fishing mags but can't

Alan, This should give you what you need: http://www.automaticbobbin.com/ I have one. It has its good and weak points. Nicely made, it works as advertised but it's not balanced, which is awkward if you use split thread techniques a lot. Spinning the bobbin makes it wobble so gou must guide the

Alan, Try it, you will like it far better than any auto bobbin. I tried to tie with the Erich bobbin and found it not good for my usage. I pd $50 for a Nor vise bobbin, could not get the hang of it, sold it for $25. He ties on a Nor vise. I have found the best for me in the rite bobbin. Denny

Thanks a lot Mart. That is the kind of info I was looking for. I tie a lot of big flies for bass and pike, so I do have to spin the bobbin quite a few times to complete a fly. I also put half hitches in at every tie in point so I usually have to rewind the bobbin a lot. I usually don't split
