I have just finished watching the Walmart Bass programme that we get in England
and was wondering if the way these fish are handled has any detrimental effect
on them.
We are taught to hold fish supporting their bellies etc but a lot of Bass get
swung on to decks and held up by their mouths.
I
I typically lip bass; it's quicker to get the fly out the fish back in the
water you don't touch the protective layer on the skin of the fish. When
I'm using a net, as w/ trout, I rarely need to touch the fish @ all.

Great news, Birdie!
No opinions on the bass question. Just delighted with your good test
results.

Birdie,
Good news about your scan. We'll pray the next one show the tumors shrinking
or gone.
From what I've read, lipping a Bass and holding it vertically causes minimal
harm to the fish. But
torqueing them horizontal can cause damage to the jaw. Especially with heavier
fish. Makes sense
yep makes sense to me too.
unless a miracle occurs tumors will never go but hopefully will kept under
control for a few years yet.

I found the package when I got home after work. I wanted to open it right
away but two of our grandchildren were still napping and my wife made me
wait unitl they could watch. I can honestly and enthusiasticly say:
It was worth the wait! Great bunch of hopper flies. The fish better watch
out.

Birdie: I'm glad to hear your news. I don't think lipping (as we call it in
Alabama) hurts the bass , and I don't think your belly holding does either as
long as you don't wipe all that slime off the fish, which protects the fish
against bacteria etc. Most ppl around here who belly hold the
