Alan,
Years ago I used to buy lead strips to use for weight on the leader. They came
in packages of about twelve strips. I used to get them at a fly shop. They were
about 1/32 thick, 1/8" wide and about 3" long. No sticky back on them. The
shops might still sell them. I don't use weight on my li
Wapsi also makes this. It comes in a package that resembles a match book.
But I have only received them as samples. I have never seen them in a fly
shop.
I have never seen the veniards lead either. It may be a European/Canadian
thing. I am fortunate that I don't have to do mail order for most of m
Yes they are called "twist-on's".
I used to have a pkg of them but don't know what I did with them.
We have them at Bas Pro, so I may pick up a pkg today.
The only problem is that they are so thick.
If tying a 14 or 16 you want it a lot thinner then the twist-on's.

I haven't heard from my brother yet. I am hoping they sell the lead sheets at
his pro shop.

I find a shop in CA to give me the best service for needed supplies.
Have used "The Fly Shop"
for many years. Below listed URL will show you the flat lead. They also
handle the sheets
of adhesive backed lead.
No interest, just a very satisfied customer.

I have some of those somewhere in my room downstairs. I just don't use lead.

The great thing about lead is it is so soft. You could hammer it out
thinner I suppose with little effort. Squeeze it between bench vise jaws or
something similar. I wouldn't want to get into smelting my own lead to pour
in a mould, but it would be fairly simple to make one to your specs.

DonO asked me to post this for him.
"For flat lead in many sizes as needed, I make my own from round lead
wire. Just lay down a strip of round lead (any diameter) on a hard flat
surface and drag a hard but rounded object down the length of the strip,

Hi Rick;
I was following a thread on FAOL about the Goldie Jr fly material, Sulky
metallic thread. There seem to be a lot of different Sulky metallic threads,
which one's do you use?
Thanks in advance;

A couple of years ago I purchased a bunch of the flat lead by Larva Lace.
It was being discontinued I think. It works quite well. I have also done
just as Don) has described above. I used the flat lead on the stonefly
nymph I tied for JD swap.
