[videoblogging] Podcasting announcements

2005-12-31 Thread Steve Garfield
The podcasters have a separate group for announcements :

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/podcastingannouncements/

Description

For those who want to shamelessly, or shamefully, promote their
podcasts. General announcements, press releases, etc.

You've found the main failing of blog software. Hidden archives.

Broadcast Machine might be what you are looking for.

http://participatoryculture.org/broadcast/

It lists your videos in order.

Here's a sample I started playing with...

On Dec 30, 2005, at 7:04 PM, Stan Hirson, Sarah Jones wrote:

What bothers me now that I have been doing this for a few days, is that I am being forced back into a linear mode because of the date/journal quality of the software.  It is like a diary that you cannot start at the beginning.  Oh, sure, people can dig into archives, scroll down and up in ways that are unfamiliar to them, but it's not going to happen.  I think I would rather start at the beginning and develop ideas in a progression for the audience just the way I am doing it for myself as I spin the vlog.

[videoblogging] production cookbook pdf

2005-12-31 Thread Jan

Found this excellent resource through Apple's site while
researching streaming video potential for second life Road Node 101 vlogging

Thought some of you might appreciate its overview of lighting
and sound.

Now, the question is: who's got a streaming server they'd like
to share with Road Node 101?

here's a dumb hack:

suppress printing the date by editing blogger template *once* to either
remove or hide date header using CSS (again, back up your template
before making changes).

when posting, set the publication date to one in the past so that
articles go in the order you want

type the "real" date in the post if you need to display it

you may also wish to suppress the archive's too and use your own index
(which can now be in the first post)

Thanks for the
suggestion. I checked out Broadcast Machine. I hate to be picky, but
it does not integrate the text with other media in a fluid way. I like
the embedded quality of the video in Blogger. I also like the fact
that so far I do not have to learn code and can post and edit quite
easily in a spiffy template. Broadcast Machine has a rigidity of its
own.

I guess I am looking for a hack or a plug-in for Blogger that would
reverse the order of posts and would allow one to EASILY create a table
of contents rather than the buried archives. I yelled easily becaue I
am sure it could be done with code and with a lot of bother each time
you posted.

Thanks for your consideration!

other blogging engines, like TypePad, allow you to reverse the order of
posts (ascending or descending order). BLogger is really limited when
it comes to customizations.

in fact I assume you've been reading some books I haven't but.. if
you can site things... like where is this cube model you talk about
enric... and can you further expand on this list of terms... I
follow... but I'm not quite seeing how they all fit together.

The model I was talking about is from Jensen, Jens F. ”Interaktivitet og
interaktive medier” in the anthology ”Multimedier, Hypermedier,
Interaktive Medier” Aalborg Universitetsforlag, 1998 (edited by Jens F.
Jensen as well). As the titles suggest the article is very much written in
Danish.

I don't know if he has written a similar write-up in English, but all his
publications are at URL:

trouble reading his English articles when he also writes in Danish.

I'll put a short explanation of the model on my blog sometime soon.

Well Harold, you ask a complicated question. If you're just going to
compress for the web, I don't know the best answer. However, if you
want to have a 720x480, 30fps version, then MPEG2 is the way to go.
The conversion process is a bit time consuming, but you end up with a
very good looking movie. It can be done with freeware. Let me know

Sorenson was considered OK at one time but is now superceded by 3ivx

mpeg-4 is a container format. It can contain many different codecs.
What codec is the mpeg-4 you're working with?
Open the file in Quicktime (even if it doesn't play) and press Apple-i
for Get Info.
This should tell you the codec, among other things.
You may need a plugin of some sort to decode the file... maybe Divx or Xvid:

it might although QT should be able to decode 3ivx on its own

How about this... open the file in QT, press Apple-i, and tell us what

Does transcoding produce worse results than decoding? VLC has a feature that allows you to transcode to a raw format, but I'm really looking to preserve the integrity of the original file as much as possible, and if transcoding is just another compression scheme I'd like to stay away fro it.

Which file types can iMovie import? I tried importing an .mpeg
 (apparently
it's an MPEG-4) but it looks like that's not going to happen. Do I need
 to
convert this to another file type before importing?

Man, I've got more to learn that I though about digital video. Thanks
 for
   all your help,

Re: [videoblogging] convert to .wmv

get Flip4Mac Studio:
 www.flip4mac.com

or popwire wmv export component:
 http://www.popwire.com/product_info.php?cPath=1products_id=7

Flip4Mac is more expensive, but I highly recommend it. Excellent
product. Also allows you to import and edit WMV in Quicktime, iMovie,
Final Cut. Great for remixing.

I went with the Popwire, not to say it's bad but you get with you pay for.Joshua Kinberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: get Flip4Mac Studio: www.flip4mac.com or popwire wmv export component: http://www.popwire.com/product_info.php?cPath=1products_id=7 Flip4Mac is more expensive, but I highly recommend it.
