Re: [videoblogging] Re: can i use digital camera for vblog ?
I used a Canon S400 at 320x240 for 2 years. It was great and I didn't even know it had a 2 minute recording limit until I was recoding someone's talk one day and the camera stopped recording. Then I figured out about the 2 minute limit. Newer cameras are only limited by the memory size as to the length of the recording. Make sure you check that prior to buying. I've been recently testing the Nokia N93 and N95 cell phones. They shoot 640x490 at 30 fps and have stereo mics on them. This new vlog I'm working on was shot on the N93: http://spicesoflife.com/2007/02/12/needling-nina-accupuncture-with-dr- zhu/ or http://tinyurl.com/34rch9 I think the audio is really good. An additional audio track was also recorded onto a PowerBook for this episode, for radio, but I decided to just use the on camera audio. --Steve On Mar 2, 2007, at 7:31 PM, Gena wrote: Absolutely! Re: [videoblogging] Re: The Case Against Advertising in Net Video
Advertising is flawed by definition, corrupt in its basic premise, a premise that in a pinch, excludes truth. One cannot accept money toward one's survival and in the pinch - when it really matters - tell the sad truth about the advertiser. It's all fine and dandy until the advertiser screws up. Screwups are inevitable. Behind every advertiser are fallible humans. Humans will lie to survive. That's a dilemma. How do we pry ourselves off the dilemma's horns? Hmmm? By committing to tell the truth at the risk of losing the advertising client. By choosing clients carefully. Advertising reeks with lies. I challenge you to watch an evening's worth of television with a lie filter in your brain. Some lies are mere hyperbole; others, flat-out insulting with untruth. Heath http://batmangeek7.blogspot.com +1 I posted this to Enric's page, but for some reason, it didn't go through: There are quite a few reasons why advertisements need to be _inside_ videos. This assumes, as Chris pointed out, that the content creator desires to make money with his/her video. This is the same conversation as how do we make sure that people see (and/or respect) our CC licenses?. If the advertisement isn't inside the video, then, as you mentioned, as soon as the video is watched out of context, the ad's no longer on it. The purpose is defeated, because there is ZERO chance that someone will click on an ad they never see. As far as advertisements that run alongside or above or below a video, that assumes that someone's willing to accept this visual intrusion while they're trying to watch the video. Personally, if there's more stuff moving, that wrecks my immersion in the piece. I'm actually less likely to watch a video with ads constantly changing somewhere near it on the page than I am likely to watch a video where I know there's going to be a pre, post or midroll ad. The important questions are how to make the ads relevant to the content, and as you brought up, the MOOD of the video, and how to make the ads a seamless part of the video to the point that they're not seen as an annoyance. Originally, I had ads running on my videos, but having looked at the stats, it wasn't likely that someone was going to click on the

Are you on PC or Mac? The following ideas are PC based. This is an option. There is free software that can convert PP into Flash .swf format. From there you can import into QuickTime Pro or other video editing programs that accept. the .swf format. Open Office can convert Powerpoint into .swf but you do lose the animations. It is free. http://www.openoffice.org/product/ FlashSping Lite maintains the animations but you might not like the Demo notice or banner http://www.flashspring.com/products/flashspring_lite.html File Format.info has an online PPT to Flash converter http://www.fileformat.info/convert/doc/ppt2swf.htm Swish Presenter converts PPT into Flash .swf format. You summarized it beautifully Jan. Simple, if not easy. And easier for some than others. Beach Walks - as a show - was founded on the principle of don't get invested in the results of what you do. It takes guts on some days, on other days it is utterly liberating. Your words are going on my bulletin board. Cellphones that include high quality video capture, editing and distribution will enable lots of people to share their stories. This will change everything. Production Values Discussion, Do They Matter? David Tames, Filmmaker Media Technologist http://kino-eye.com An open ended discussion. When is it best to shot and get whatever and when might we want to worry about production values like good lighting, sound, framing, etc. ? There are aesthetic and moral issues at stake in this issue. When should we mimic professional media and when should we do our own thing? One cannot accept money toward one's survival and in the pinch - when it really matters - tell the sad truth about the advertiser. That's an interesting philosophical way to think about it, making the choice between getting the money from a product you don't believe in and speaking out authentically against something you think is wrong or incorrect. Of course, that's a major consideration for news channels in how they report things and what they report... which corporation is paying for them to have equipment, electricity and jobs. You get paid to support their agenda instead of to stand up for your own line of reasoning or what you think is right. Which, of course, is impossible when your ad is automatically generated. Advertising reeks with lies. I challenge you to watch an evening's worth of television with a lie filter in your brain. Some lies are mere hyperbole; others, flat-out insulting with untruth. As a result of the ubiquitous lie, we are inured to them. A dangerous mindspace in which to live. Trusted filters. Social currency. That's my answer. Jan The whole question of WHY someone puts videos on the internet is worth exploring. Is it done for money? Internet fame? Self-expression? Public service? Speaking to the ten or entertaining the hundreds of thousands? Monetizing videos can lead to the shift of focus from creating the content to getting paid for it. Making videos to reach the desired demographic instead of videos you'd make if money wasn't an issue. The whole point of advertising is to get your money before you give it to someone else. :) No room for the truth in there! :D -- Bill C. http://ReelSolid.TV On 3/3/07, sull [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Generally, I have to agree with Bill here. From my response on the blog comments: Since some on here and the videoblogging group have the view that advertising is evil. I want to state I don't share that philosophy. Advertising is essential in informing on the talent and capability one wants to exchange with someone else's products of talent. Re: [videoblogging] Re: The Case Against Advertising in Net Video
Thanks for stating that Enric. I don't think much of anything is inherently evil. Life is about context, and in that sense, anything is possible. It is in the specifics that we find ourselves making choices. I see so much opportunity for formerly disparate groups of people to reinvent business relationships, as I hope was obvious from my comments.
