It's *amazing*, isn't it? I remember when Matt (was it?) first
announced it in 05 and it was like this amazing gift that suddenly
dropped out of the sky. I love the way people do that kind of thing
online - make beautiful things to give away. Glad it's been/is being
used so well.

2005-07-28 Thread Michael Sullivan

what we need is a way to open up a new win with a list of all thoe
vloggers in that country/state/city/town.
and a marker that sais how many vloggers are in that area.
maybe context menus would help here.
all i know is, i think its cool to look at for a visual
interpretation, but i never use it to actually find vloggers.

does google maps allow for this type of extensibility? i havent read the api.

ok 'never say never'
i have found cool vlogs.
but i dont want to sway from the issue i think you understand how
eventually, this overlapping of markers can be counter-intuitive. so,
just shooting out ideas on how it can be improved. afterall, the
enticing thing is that its a map... and i'd love for the map itself to
get better as the community grows. just looking beyond the curve.

thanks,

sull

This is all a catch 22. Considering the are only 200 total, I'm not
worried about 1000 in NYC. While looking at the world view, how do I
visually show you 1000 markers in NYC or 5 markers in Iowa without
actually showing the markers. This is an inherent issue with vlogger
 creep.

That being said, search functionality is being improved. I should be
able to add site/url search as well as expand the locations list.

The current goal is to count the number of markers within view and run
a list on the right (only when the total in view is less than the
 column can handle).

It is too bad you're not finding new vloggers with VlogMap. We've
found tons of great sites overseas that entertain the shit out of our
 Americans asses.

Check out the boxes movie from the guy in West India.

2005-07-16 Thread Clint Sharp

petertheman wrote:

As a first step, the mefeedia directory is available as OPML:

The goal is this: now, a new vlogger has to add their URL to like 5
services. We want it so that if you add it to 1 service, the others
also pick it up :) Easy peasy.

[techie talk] And that's just a first babystep in sharing data and
building an ecology of tools. This is our only chance to stand up
against the giants like Apple and MS, who *are* acting like evil
coorporations by creating their own data formats that they try to
control. If we don't work together on this, videoblogging data *will*
be controlled by the iTunes' of this world. (I love iTunes, but Jobs
is clearly not being very open and wants to control the space.)

 Peter

Actually, this particular instance, Microsoft is being much more open
then Apple. Strange. However, I do agree. The key is sharing data.
We need to develop a multi-master replication system that will
disseminate directory information across all the tools we are
developing. It's a hard problem to solve, but it's definitely the only
way we are going to be able to compete against the big guys. I'm
on-board. Where are we discussing this?
