[videoblogging] Flash video not suitable for iPhone, Apple CEO says

2008-03-06 Thread Charles Iliya Krempeaux
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/03/05/tech-adobe-iphone.html

Wonder if this is just business maneuver or if there's something (that's
not a Red Herring) to the claims.

[videoblogging] Flash video and Intel Macs

2007-06-19 Thread David S Kessler
hey, sorry if this has been discussed already, i couldn't find
anything on it. I have a pretty new intel mac and all Flash video
anywhere plays horrible on it. youtube, blip whatever, if there is no
quicktime, i pretty much can't watch it. it's choppy and slow. all
the same videos play fine on my PC.
I think there was a setting on the macromedia sight that i changed a
while ago but that didn't help. does anyone else have this problem?

Re: [videoblogging] Flash video and Intel Macs

2007-06-19 Thread Rupert
Hey David,
Flash playback shouldn't be a problem on any Mac, no matter what PC
nerds will tell you. Have you tried running it in different
browsers? You could try CTRL+Clicking on a flash player and changing
some of the things in the Settings and Quality menus.
If that doesn't work, try running the uninstall program which you can
download here
http://tinyurl.com/2j9lt2
(if that link doesn't work, google Adobe Flash Uninstall)
Then reinstall it. Shouldn't take too long. Quicker than messing
about with trial and error, maybe.

[videoblogging] flash video

2007-03-11 Thread Daryl Urig
I have seen many versions of saving video files.

Is it easier or better to just save them in a flash format so every body can
use them?

Does this work best?

Can I use navigation buttons when saving my files as a flash video.

This documented bug is quite common since most video upload sites
automatically compress with Sorensen (Flash Video 6/7 codec).

I've used a tool called FLV Metadata Injector to correct the FLV metadata:

This does work, but I'd rather be backwards compatible with Flash Video 6/7.

Correct, I don't think FFMpeg will be supporting On2VP6.
But, you can get the On2 Flix Exporter and run that on your server.
Not sure how expensive it is. I'm pretty sure that's what most of the
upload-your-video-here sites are using.

[videoblogging] Flash video - version penetration

2006-05-23 Thread Chuck Olsen

According to Adobe/Macromedia, based upon a survey by NPD:
http://tinyurl.com/zzftm

Flash 5: 97.7%
Flash 6: 97.2%
Flash 7: 94.8%
Flash 8: 69.3%

That's for the U.S. as of April 2006. Percentages are higher in Europe.

I'm still using Flash 6 for MInnesota Stories, primarily because of the
high installed user base. I'm very tempted to upgrade to Flash 8 video
but I don't want to lose anybody or force an upgrade -- and it looks
pretty decent.

that's a bit more like it, but I'm even skeptical about these figures

many of the survey companies are in the biz of obtaining results that
make them look good (or competitors look bad)

i had a friend that was a SAS analyst for JD Powers and he explained
how they work with clients.

objectivity is a joke in these cases

it's no wonder that just about every car made comes out on top in
*some* survey

similarly, these are reminiscent of microsoft's browser claims

according to them, IE is still around 90%

other people claim more like 60%

that's a lot of wiggle room

the bottom line: there is no silver bullet

[videoblogging] Flash, video iPod and offering MP3 podcasts

2005-12-20 Thread bucqui8
I videoblog for the Detroit News political blog -
http://spartanedge.com/blogs/detroitnews/index.html -

But because I use Flash, it seems that I can't get on on aggregators.
Is that still true? Seems off to me because I really think Flash is
a cool way to offer vid.

Another concern - I am not sure how to offer up video for the iPod --
I squeezed my video through Sorenson into a small MPEG-4And then
I offer a link that allows people to download it. But I do not have
an iPod and wondered if it works OK. I have no way to check.

I also wondered how many of you also offer an MP3 podcast of your
videoblog. I try to do that but don't know if it works well.

Thanks -

Question for video gurus -- is there any way to get video into Flash
without packaging it up as either a FLV file or embedding it within an
SWF file? What I'm wondering is whether it's possible to have Flash
launch a movie in some other, more generic/ open format.

thanks in advance.

Question: what's the difference between wrapper format and compression
algorithm?

The magic incantation for Flash is 'sorensen spark codec':
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/mx2004/main_7_2/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Flash_MX_2004file=0340.html

Documentation here suggests that Quicktime supports that codec:
http://www.sorensonstore.com/faq.php

However I think this leaves the issue of wrapper format completely
unspecified, meaning that MP4 is unsupported. Like Mike says, it's
FLV or nothing.

Ok, now I'm finally up to speed on this. Sorry to be so far behind
the general curve...

[videoblogging] Flash Video.

2005-10-17 Thread serrapumpkin
Hi, everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone uses Flash Video (flv) on their
blogspot-hosted video blog. As some of you know, I'm working on a
Master's Thesis project that will involve a video blog, and a flash
application that accesses the videos on the vlog. What I'm unsure of
is how to embed .flv files with controllers into the blogger
templates. Are there any Flash gurus out there that wouldn't mind
giving me some pointers?
(If you'd like to read a conceptual overview of the project, visit
http://videostring.blogspot.com )

Thanks so much in advance, guys.
