Alright Sully, I just made what may have been the fastest consumer electronics purchase in my life...Will soon be a Gmini 402 producer...Tell me all I need to know about the device! (I'll be researching it up and down over the next few days until it arrives, but if you have some valuable insight into the device, I'll greatly appreciate it!)

I think Apple, for a short time, will actually replace you 5G ipod
for free without any questions.

That's what I've been reading on some of the apple sites.

Besides, it's probably covered under the 90 day warranty.

Sony PSP is $250. Plays same video formats as iPod. Memory stick
limits its storage capacity though (1 GB is plenty storage for
vidoeblogs though).

Creative Zen Vision is comparable in price to iPod at roughly $400,
but plays more video formats than iPod (WMV, MPEG 1/2/4, DivX, Xvid).
It has a 30GB hard drive and can connect to the TV with included RCA
cables. Of course its bigger and heavier than the iPod.

Just something to think about if you are a comparison shopper in the
market for portable video device.

2005-10-12 Thread Mat Wall-Smith
I tried to buy an 20 gig iPod as a gift last week. Couldn't get one.
No store here can get the current model of iPods from Apple. All orders are
pending and there is no word on when they will be available again (across
numerous stores).
To me it feels like the 'something else' is an iPod of one form or another.
No store has any information but they agreed that something was probably
pending as it was an unusual situation.

Apple will want to launch video on demand, a video server or a video capable
airport express video, and ipod video 'portability' in the same breath...
Steve said no-one wants to watch video on their iPODbut s-vhs out
defeats that.

I guess will soon see.

about to open a few more stores in our area.
That seems like quite a growth spurt actually.
I wonder how much that is happening elsewhere.

Well you've all got me wondering enough for me to go over there and
make a cold call on Apple's PR in the Lobby as to why they never
return my calls nor answer my emails. I am sick and tired of being
ignored by them. It should make for some interesting video even if I
am rejected at the door. I live only 32 miles from the site of
today's event. So I will go in hopes of making a breakthrough with
Apple PR since I can't get any closer to them in person than the $6
round trip in gas from here. I'm real familiar with the neighborhood
and know where I can park for free nearby the site - California
Theatre, 345 South 1st St San Jose. It's a beautiful place.

Sorry Taylor..everyone here is great...just think that Rocketboom has a
nicely packaged commercially viable 'product' with a good length, a good
download size, that follows the 'theory of minimum innovation'- this is what
what I mean by reliable -- as well as that the program has been running for
a substantial period daily without a major shift in format...and there
subscription rate was (at least when last reported) pretty impressive.

I don't want more laughs and less lengthbut apple probably will! In fact
chances are they'll want mostly eye candy and RB as Andrew has intimated are
probably still too left of field/engaged for them. I still recall that great
post where Amanda came upon a family that had allegedly been mistreated by
police - Apple can't rotoscope that!

I've probably offended RB as well now...sorry to all...

Re: [videoblogging] VIDEO IPOD!!!!!

2005-10-12 Thread Andy Carvin
CNN just did a very vague story on it. Here are some notes I took:

A lot of secrecy and speculation surrounding the new iPod

AP is reporting they'll unveil a video iPod. here: http://tinyurl.com/b9nxj

A slightly larger screen with probably 80 gigabytes

Lots of questions about what type of content would be played on the
device - CNN apparently hasn't heard of vlogging

In sum: We don't know for sure what this device will be.

other rumor: Madonna pink iPod with all of her songs, like the U2 iPod.

Closing quote: lot of speculation, we're really not sure what it will
be doing exactly, but video will be a part of it.

I'm really surprised CNN bothered to air the story when they don't seem
to have their facts straight, covering themselves by citing the AP as
their source

Hrm. $1.99 seems a little pricey to me for one TV show. That's $50 a
season. I watch about 5 shows not in reruns and probably another 7 to 10
in syndication. Figuring 15 shows, that'd be $750/yr for the shows I
watch, or about $62.50 a month. I pay less than that for cable, plus I
have access to all the shit I don't watch regularly. Someone's gonna
have to come up with a better business model.

Not only that, but $1.99 for 320x240 versions of television shows?
What's my incentive to pay?

Re: [videoblogging] VIDEO IPOD!!!!!

2005-10-12 Thread Stephanie Bryant

Clint, the advantage isn't to buy the whole season, but to buy the episode that you accidentally deleted from TiVo before you could watch it, or the episode that you missed because traffic was bad that night and you don't have TiVo, or the episode that you missed because on another channel your show ran over because of sports etc.

People pay $30/season for the DVD, which they wait for. A lot of the shows are becoming more and more serialized-storyline, where you have to have seen previous episodes to really get what's going on, and being able to buy the previous episode is a real advantage.

I think $1.99 for a music video is a total ripoff, but then I don't see any appealto music videos anyway.

I have just heard through the grapevine that a popular video blog
has just been asked by Apple if their videocast can be used in
Apple’s presentation on Wednesday, Oct 12th.

Hey Andrew... was Rocketboom asked? Of course, you can't really
answer that question on a public list without facing the wrath of
Apple if it is indeed the case, but if so... that's awesome. If I was
Apple I would definitely introduce Videoblogging on the iPod with
Rocketboom...

I want an iPod with a high-quality microphone that can attach to an
iSight and record video. That's the perfect videoblogging tool.

Title: Re: [videoblogging] Video iPod in 13 hours?

Given the videoblog landscape Id have thought RB would be the safest option for Apple.
No-one else does work as regularly and reliably produced and I imagine your subscriptions would probably back that up.

What is your circulation now?

Nope, not us.

(1) I wish!

(2) It's unlikely Apple would want to align with Rocketboom. I think Apple is way too conservative and traditional in this regard. Just a feeling, I wish it  weren'ttrue. At least we've got Pete! Pinball wizard!

Re: [videoblogging] video ipod by november 9?

2005-09-09 Thread Kunga
Steve pointed out Wednesday that Apple sold 6 million iPods last
quarter while Sony only sold 2 million Playstation Portables. So he
may think he's got more time to enter this market than we do. And
Apple may not be technologically ready to make their offering.

I stumbled upon this ad where you can win a video ipod by november 9.

Alright, so I'm a sucker for the Apple hype. I'd still love to see a
video ipod though. And I am pretty sure they will.

Re: [videoblogging] Video Ipod in less than 2months?

2005-07-18 Thread Joshua Czikowski

Hmmm interesting though, I think the main problem is Battery life, If
you where to keep the colour screen on for longer than 10 seconds at a
time the thing would be out in well... mabey an hour or two at the most.
