Jay, I sent an email to Andrew just a couple days
ago suggesting he highlight a "vlog of the day" with just a few seconds of
exposure and a link to send people there after watching Rocketboom.

That would be a great way for good vlogs to build
an audience.  It would also be a good way for Rocketboom to have a steady
source of new and interesting stuff.

We do have plans for this too, I've announced it here on this list
even. The only reason why it got stopped up is because Amanda and I
are experiencing growing pains and cant do everything by ourselves
anymore and so things are getting messy.

Anyway, last week we hired an intern who is working on our
videoblogging resource page as we speak. We already have the database
built from and filled in from scratch and as of this week and should
have it up and running with design by next week (this time I can say
I think we'll make the time frame because the help is finally there).

I think it will be a great resource to open up the flood gates and
provide a very easy access to the rest of the videoblogging community
from those people that visit Rocketboom.

Jay Deadman, Rocketboom is not a classroom. However, we have always
informed our audience about these things. Those people that watch
Rocketboom regularly likely know all about RSS and a lot more complex
backend technical issues from simply tuning in.

We have running jokes about RSS, we cover the people who invented it,
we often refer to it in other contexts, we have extras with tutorial
walk-throughs and we finally now assume our regular audience knows
about it and if we continue to try and "teach" to them, they will
revolt against the tired subject.

I'm surprised the ANT site does not do more to explain what it is,
since thats so much the business that you are in.

When new people coming out of nowhere ask me about RSS, I usually
just say "Download a copy of FireANT and just click around, you'll
figure it out pretty quickly".

Do you guys have any plans at FireANT to do more information sharing
on explaining what RSS is and how it works?

Look for an upcoming Rocketboom episode where Amanda goes for a walk
through the city as if each building is a website and each billboard
is a banner add. The city is the web in 3D. Even all the hardware
stores are clustered around the same district. The episode will show
off, and make a political statement about how and why to use
Bittorrent with RSS. Its the most efficient way for the city to work.

Also, as a final note, for example, if you look at our last Friday's
episode, its an example of how we call attention to a subject matter
like the energy crisis, in a way that is hopefully entertaining which
thus hopefully gets people excited about it and looking into it
further on their end. I think we are finding the most effective way
to explain things is merely providing easy access (in the form of
story links) to the information thats out there already. Information
filtering with personal commentary. Its just one way.
