Re: [videoblogging] vlogweek 2006 - technorati tag in fireant?

2006-04-04 Thread Charles Iliya Krempeaux

Hello Josh,Here's some info on rel-prefetch:http://www.mozilla.org/projects/netlib/Link_Prefetching_FAQ.html
(I believe the term "prefetch", in this case, comes from SMIL.  And is somewhat meant to mimic it's usage.)On this page, the info is pertaining to using rel-prefetch is with the HTML element.
However, like with all usage of the "rel" and "rev" attributes.  It can be equally applied to the element too.Note (in case it isn't clear), the sematics of each (as I understand them) is as follows:
rel-prefetch: This means: pre-download this.  (It says nothing about any extra relation between the target and the document though.  Like if it is "attached" or not.)
rel-enclosure: This means: this thing is "attached" to this document.  (Often this causes user-agents to pre-download it.  But they don't have to.  All this says it that the target is attached to the document.)

There's a draft written for RelEnclosure and it is fairly well supported
(by Feedburner for example). rel="prefetch" is not something I'd count on
using for anything. Use rel="enclosure".

never seen nor heard of rel="prefetch"

rel="enclosure" is already considered a Microformat.

Hello,I don't think so either.(Assuming the vlogger is doing this)  Vlogging watching software (like Fireant) would have to scan the HTML (either in the RSS or on the page from the RSS ) and look for some semantic HTML markup.  It would need to look for either
rel-enclosure or rel-prefetch.  As in:http://example.com/show.ogm">...or:http://example.com/show.ogm">...or even:http://example.com/show.ogm">...(You get the idea)(Just an FYI.  I don't think either of these have found their way into a Microformat yet.  Remember: Microformat == semantic HTML + a specification.  But then again, I don't really thik that's necessary.  Both of these already have usage.  And are on the way to becoming defacto standards.)

(Yeah, I know I probably sound like I'm from the semantics police but)  These things aren't actually called "technorati tags".  Usually people call them "
rel-tag".Here's the spec: http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-tagSee ya
