Dear Susan,
LAVA sadly closed in 2008. Roselly Torres is now with Third World Newsreel.

Indeed, but a title with no use since 2005 or 2000 might be considered passé
depending on your collection goals.

Yup, and that is why we decide on a case by case basis. We've also honored
requests, of course, from proactive faculty who have asked that a favorite
title be sought in DVD format.

Would this be streaming directly to a library for a patron to watch on
premise?

Hi All,
I know that we've talked about this before but I can't seem to find the email
thread I'm looking for. For those of you who are using combo DVD/VCR players,
what brand and model do you prefer? And are they multi-region, both the DVD
side and the VCR side?
Cheers,

It would be for mostly remote use like the Netflix or download model,
but some in-house stations set for that purpose.

Hi Suella,
I think very few of us public libraries have jumped into this realm save for
the few offerings on Overdrive. Jessica-we are looking to stream/offer

In that case I am stymied. I don't see any major rights holder gong for that
unless I suppose you can pay Netflix money to them or set up some kind of
fee per use which would of course go against the grain for libraries. As a
practical matter Swank is the only company that really handles a
Yes, sadly, LAVA closed and actually shipped all the films back to Latin
America.
For years we've been handling some of the same titles that LAVA did, mostly
with a U.S. Latino focus, and now we're slowly building a Latin American
collection...

I have heard of this case and I think your logic makes sense. I don't see how

We have about 120 titles, and they do not circulate well.
This is the exact reason we haven't jumped in Overdrive for film (for the most
part)-circ stats are not there-and the titles offered simply are not in demand.
It's too difficult to jump thru the hoops to watch.
