Erin, I recently purchased a Millermatic 180 and it works well for me. I'm far from being a proficient welder but this one is fine for my use. According to the spec sheet this machine will weld 3/16 steel. The -matic part is there is a setting with which the operator will select the thickness

Thanks Larry. I've done a lot of reading and it seems the Miller line of welders is about the most favourite welder and highly suggested for all kinds of uses. The Millermatic 250 is supposed to let you weld some thicker stuff so you don't have to use the arc welder and it is indeed 220/240v.
