Erin, I recently purchased a Millermatic 180 and it works well for me. I'm far from being a proficient welder but this one is fine for my use. According to the spec sheet this machine will weld 3/16" steel. The "-matic" part is there is a setting with which the operator will select the thickness of the metal to be welded and the welding wire diameter and the machine does the rest. It will set the wire feed speed and the amperage. In the past that has been a hit-or-miss guess, kind of a black magic thing. :o)
After doing an online survey, I found that B&R Welding in Maryland had the best price and shipping. Since all the online prices were for the same new article, I went with the lowest price. And the shipping was free - all the way from White Plains, Maryland, to Scottsdale, Arizona! At the same I purchased a matching Miller cart/cylinder rack. Total cost was "only" $937.00. :o) HTH, Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: "No Quarter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; "Air-Cooled Volkswagen Discussion List" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2011 7:51 PM Subject: [vintagvw] My welder broke > Tonight I was working on a mount that will fit in a receiver hitch so I > can > mount an aircraft engine on it to test run it and the welder broke.
