I can almost guaranty that the there is something going on either with the
connection to the hearing aids or with volume. When you don't get volume, do
you wear your hearing aids at that time? The other day I got all frustrated
because suddenly my phone was silent, then I remembered that my
Speak screen apparently is enabled.
Go to Settings, general, accessibility, speech and turn off speak selection and
speak screen.
You don't need those plus VoiceOver.
At least, in my opinion.

As for the phone not charging overnight what you describe is exactly what
happens, it gets bumped a bit and is no longer lined up correctly.
