I’m sure the track length info of zipped audio books stopped being displayed by
Voice Dream a while ago. Can’t remember when, but certainly while I was still
using iOS 12.

Same problem here since updating VDR last week, even though I'm still using iOS
12.4.
An alternative way to add files from iCloud Drive is to find the file in the
Files app, then flick down several times and double tap on Share.
The Share sheet should include voice Dream Reader.

I would expect the file to be stored in Voice Dream Reader. If VDR isn’t
installed, then I’ve no idea what happens.

Re getting rid of the draft message.
Tap on the button in the bottom right corner and the draft should open. Now,
at the top of the screen you should have buttons for Minimise Draft and Cancel.
If you tap Cancel, you should be prompted to delete the draft.
