That is very odd. I use the british accent, and siri understands my
american speech. I don't doubt what you're saying, Jonathan, but my own
experience has not mirrored it; however, maybe British accents would
confuse an American Siri more than American accents would confuse a
British Siri.
I used the regular double-tap for a long, but am now using the mode where you
slide around and then lift when the right letter is reached. This slide method
is marvelous. Double-tapping helped me to acclamate well to the iPod, but now
the slides are so easy and natural.
