I know what you mean. When you search for someone, your friends will come up
first and then others will come afterwards on that list.

Instead of doing a global search in the app, I do the following. I go to the
"more" tab and find my name near the top of the screen and double-tap it. The
resulting area shows my posts. Just above my list of posts is a buttn that says

When you open the Facebook application, it should go on the newsfeed tab by
default. On that tab, there is a search button on the top left corner. You want
to activate that button and then search for your friend.

For the native facebook for iphone app, the search function is now on the
mainpage, on the homepage, at the very top. If you type in your friends' name,
all the names on facebook will appear, with people that you are friends with
first, follow by strangers.

there was a search friends field where you could easily type the friends name
and it would pull up all your friends with that first name. so
