your email using a client on iCloud, you are required to use your apple ID
password. THis is the same method I use for all other email clients
(thunderbird, apple mail, eudora, etc.). I do not understand why
iCloud mail up and running on your

You are correct if you are closing the message and then trying to delete it
with a 1 finger swipe up.
If you double tap the delete button while the message is open it deletes it.
That is the delete button at the bottom of the screen.
