It sounds like the original questioner needs to check with the friend to make
sure that Siri has internet access.
That is the sound and message when Siri cannot get to the server; which may be
a problem of the past once iOS 15 is out.
And, I find Alexa and Siri about equally smart or stupid
I actually disagree. Often I ask Alexa something that it doesn’t know the
answer to, but Siri will get the answer without issue. So I’ve always seen Siri
as more competent than Alexa.

I think it would be a good idea to cut Apple a bit of slack until a few weeks
after iOS 15 is released. I am often first to point out how stupid SIRI can
sometimes be especially after being around for such a long time and compared to
Google Assistant and Alexa which are both a lot younger.
If as you say " He has done all things you maybe want to propose" then why did
you post this, not much point in proposing anything if it's already been done.
