Hi,

I have had that issue since yesterday when I installed 16.1. It also makes
intermittent beeps or some sort of tone sometimes if the dictation is long
enough.

I am finding Dictation to be problematic in a variety of apps including mail,
reminders, and messages.

RE: Outlook mail

2022-10-25 Thread R Van Lant
I would stick with the native email app if you are comfortable with it. I've
started using the Outlook app for work email on my phone and, while it's OK. I
still prefer the simplicity of the native email app and would not have
voluntarily started using Outlook, if it weren't required to access my work
account. I do love Outlook as an email client on my laptops, though.

I have never used Outlook on any device ever. I have heard from people who do
use it say it’s very complicated, and all I want is a Mail app. So I use
Thunderbird on my computer and iOS mail on my iPhone or iPad. But now I’m
wondering about Outlook mail. I’ve heard people say it works well. Android and
iOS. But I just don’t want to get into a big complicated mess. Does anybody
know of anything anywhere that really sort of describes how you use outlook on
these platforms?

Widgets Live Event Postponed

2022-10-25 Thread Margaret Thomas

Hi, All:
There's an update for anyone who was interested in the free virtual
event on widgets Mystic Access had scheduled for this Thursday night.

Apparently, both Kim and Chris got hit by a bad bug and the live event
has had to be postponed and no date for the live event has been set.

Kim said:

"So, here's what we're going to do. Because of how our calendars are
looking over the next couple weeks, we're going to record this event as
soon as we're
well enough and put it up on our Free Downloads site so you can listen
at your convenience."

Re: Change in zoom behavior since updating my iPad to 16.1

2022-10-25 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks. I’ve tried flicking around to find the darn thing, but then I run into
all sorts of other stuff that I shouldn’t be running into it if I’m in the app
switcher. This must be that bug that people have been talking about where the
app switcher was kind of wonky. I’m not really interested in buying a $350
specialized device just so I can do this easily, so I hope they fix it.

Are you talking about text messages?

How are you starting the dictation?

How are you stopping the dictation?

Having exact steps will make it easier to try to duplicate it.

I just went to zoom in the app switcher, it said active, and I closed
it using my Hable One keyboard. No problems.

Hello,

I have found the following to work.

Do a four finger tap on the screen wich should land you on the Updates tab.

You can then swipe left through the available tabs.

Hope this helps.

BTW, there was also a couple of Google Maps updates in the last week or so, and
the Google Maps update may have made those posts larger thus making it harder
to get to the tabs below them. It doesn’t have to be Apple’s fault.

I can it have reproduced by other Belgian inhabitants using voiceover, the

There is nolonger such a tab on the bottom of the screen, the only thing there
is are posts from other users about places you have visited or nearby places.
But there nolonger is such a tab. The lower part of the screen is filled up
with such stupid posts we don’t want to see or interact wit hand tabs at the

For a few versions now, you can access your saved places on the saved tab at
the bottom of the screen.

Once you select that tab, all your favorites are right there. Then if you flick
up or down on any favorite you will find more options.

I double checked just now running 16.1 using VoiceOver.

Hey Sieghard,

Once you invoke the hamburger menu are you saying VoiceOver is reading

As it only does so here when screen recognition is on. Other wise we
have unlabelled buttons and blankness just VoiceOver clicks under iOS
16.1 and the latest version of the Ring app.

Take good care,

found workaround RE: saved or favorite places nolonger accessible within google maps app

2022-10-25 Thread davycuppens
Hi richard

Thanx for your help, I found a solution to toggle VO off hit the very middle
bottom of the screen and toggle VO bakc again, then you can use the app in a
normal way and indeed the tab saved places is there again but as you swipe left
tot he tab named explore, you then have these annoying postings again and you
can nolonger reach the apps at the bottom of the screen.

But because of your taughts, I gave the toggle VO on/off a try and this helpe
dus out.

But there nolonger is such a tab. The lower part of the screen is filled up
with such stupid posts we don’t want to see or interact wit hand tabs at the

For a few versions now, you can access your saved places on the saved tab at
the bottom of the screen.

Once you select that tab, all your favorites are right there. Then if you flick
up or down on any favorite you will find more options.

I double checked just now running 16.1 using VoiceOver.

2022-10-25 Thread Jim Portillo
Thanks Sieghard and Julian for these good suggestions,
Believe it or not, the famous Magic Tap doesn't always do the trick either,
which is why I resort to going back to the app. But, yes, you are right that
that gesture does a lot, and I use it quite often!
I guess I will have to write Accessibility, as you mentioned.
Thanks again!

Hi Jim,

You should be able to stop playback with a 2-finger double tap and there should
be no need to remember what app you many have to open to stop it.
But yes, I have had this problem even in iOS 15 especially when using the
2-finger double tap magic tap) to start/stop dictation. This gesture is
supposed to do quite a few different things depending on the context, e.g. if
the phone rings it should pick up the call, if music is playing it should stop
playback, if you are in an edit field it should start dictation and as you are
dictating it should stop dicatation. It seems to be a bit like iOS is confused
as to what the gesture should do inb certain situations which is why instead of
stopping dictation it starts playback.
You need to write to accessibil...@apple.com and report this so they can start
figuring out how to fix this.

RE: saved or favorite places nolonger accessible within google maps app

2022-10-25 Thread Richard Turner
BTW, there was also a couple of Google Maps updates in the last week or so, and
the Google Maps update may have made those posts larger thus making it harder
to get to the tabs below them. It doesn’t have to be Apple’s fault.

There is nolonger such a tab on the bottom of the screen, the only thing there

But there nolonger is such a tab. The lower part of the screen is filled up

For a few versions now, you can access your saved places on the saved tab at
the bottom of the screen.

Once you select that tab, all your favorites are right there. Then if you flick
up or down on any favorite you will find more options.

I double checked just now running 16.1 using VoiceOver.

Onderwerp: Content of Notifications Not Read On Lock Screen After Updating to
16.1

I am thrilled to report things are greatly improved on my iPhone 8 after
updating to 16.1 (e.g. app switcher & Notification Center work well now), but I
now have a new problem.

I’m alerted to new notifications when the phone is locked, but the notification
isn’t read; I have to swipe around before voiceover reads the notification.
This doesn’t happen when the phone is unlocked. When the phone is unlocked, I
am alerted to the arrival of a notification, and that is followed by the actual
notification. I’ve tried rebooting, and checked settings…all seems okay to me.

Any thoughts?

Katrina

Re: What do eSIMs mean for switching network?

2022-10-25 Thread Angie Nutt
I, for one, won’t mind switching to Esim and all this looks good. There will
initially be more sims going into land fill as we have to ditch them; millions
of them. Hoping someone has a bright idea of how they can be safely destroyed.
By ’someone’ I don’t mean any of you reading this though it could make
for interesting conversation.

All the best
Angie

Re: ring app issues

2022-10-25 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

No I haven't had contact with any one person more than once sadly.

I've contacted both @Amazon and @Ring via email and Twitter via dm and
have explained the issue at length for months now to no avail as of this
writing.

Take good care,

Robin

Hi Sarai,

I hesitate to post because I always like to be helpful rather than
muddying the waters. I can replicate that which your friend reports
though in my case things got worse once in the hamburger menu and as
your friend says screen recognition helps but is by no means a full
solution. I had the issues in iOS15 not just 16 so I don't know that
it's fair to say it's an Apple issue for if it were it would seem to
me to be more endemic or system wide rather than app specific. This is
just my opinion but the Ring app as a whole seems to be regressing in
terms of accessibility. I've reported these issues to both Amazon and
Ring so they are known issues and so far no fixes have seemed to be
forth coming. Speaking strictly for myself in light of this I've begun
exploring other options that might better serve my use case scenario.

I'm sorry I can't offer any solutions and as I said I hope I haven't
muddied the waters further. But sometimes it is a comfort to know that
others can replicate the issues one is experiencing. I wish your
friend the best of luck should they choose to contact Ring and Amazon
to join the politely reporting issues advocacy party. 

Take good care,

Robin

Hi all:

I’m running iOS 15.7 with Ring app version 5.54.0. I’m having no
issues with Ring and Voiceover.

A friend has iOS 16.1, and ever since iOS 16 his Ring app, same
version will not read anything but the hamburger menu with
Voiceover. He’s Reinstalled the Ring app. We are trying to figure
out if this is on Apple’s end or Ring’s.? I’m suspecting Apple.
