Often I hear stories in the news of people who are mugged and their phones
stolen. If someone's phone is stolen, what's to prevent the mugger from
snatching the phone, holding the phone up to their face, and unlocking it with
Face ID, then taking off and disappearing with an unlocked phone and access to
all the information contained therein? If a visually impaired person loses
their phone, this is not an unlikely scenario as the mugger can take the device
and just wait around and follow the visually impaired person without them
knowing it, then, when the time is right, whip out the phone and get it
unlocked without the owner ever even knowing it happened. Might it not be a bad
idea to disable unlocking with Face ID? Or am I just being New York paranoid?

Re: Unable to rename a playlist in apple music

2022-11-16 Thread Dan Yates
Kimberly, sorry, what I meant to say was, I was unable to give a name to a new
play list. W Was getting ready to make a holiday play list and can’t figure out
how to give it a name. Instead, it’s just the first song on the list that
appears to be the title.

Actually, I much prefer to cut the finger off then attach it to a key
chain like those rabbit's feet I used to buy in the mid fifties. Wonder
what happened to the rest of the rabbit?

My initial reaction was that you are being New York paranoid.

It is just as likely that a mugger could wack a blind person on the
head, and put their finger on the device to unlock it if it has the
home button.

I've never heard of either thing happening anywhere.

And, good luck to the thief who knows nothing about VoiceOver doing
anything with the phone. Which leads me to my personal approach. The
screen curtain is always on unless I need a sighted person's help, or
want to show them something. So, again, good luck to the person who
could use face ID to unlock my phone only to find a blank screen and
something jabbering at them.

Also, if you are holding your phone out in front of you, rather than
wearing it in a harness for orientation or directions, you are putting
yourself more at risk.

In ios 15 it worked out fine, but in 16 it doesn’t. When I do 3 fingers up
nothing happens, and I only hear a noise. I never hear or feel any vibration.

What can I do?

It is, and this is still working for me since I moved up to IOS 16. Was it
working for you with IOS 15? If so then you shouldn’t be doing anything wrong,
since it should work exactly the same. Put your finger at the very bottom of
the screen and then move it up until you feel the second vibration. Lift your

Finger, and you should be in the App Switcher. When you try this gesture, what
are you getting?

Re: Unable to rename a playlist in apple music

2022-11-16 Thread Kimberly
Dan,

I can't help with the renaming problem as I am still having that same issue
myself. But when you say you are unable to edit a playlist do you mean you’re
unable to delete songs? I can help you with that if that’s what you mean.

In order to remove songs from an existing playlist, first double tap the more
button at the top of the screen. Once you have entered the playlist you want to
edit. You will then see an edit button and you want to double tap that. Go down
to the song that you want to remove and swipe up with one finger. I believe the
first option is delete, and if you double tap, that song will be deleted from
the playlist.

A bit of an update about Cellar Tracker.

After about 1 day’s use, I can say it is mostly accessible and I guess fully
accessible if you are patient and willing to work at it. They are working on
the app so they love getting feedback that could help them make the new app
better and more accessible than it already is.

The support is absolutely wonderful! I’ve written back and forth several times
and after my first note, it didn’t take 30 minutes to get a helpful reply.

They even helped me find a wine to add that I couldn’t find in their database,
but with only a partially correct name, they found it for me so I could add it.

Some issues I’ve noticed is that once you enter a wine, if you entered the
wrong number of bottles, you seemingly have to use the web site to change that
and changing it is anything but easy.

Once you find the wine through the web site in your cellar, and find the edit
link; you have to really hunt for the “Add a bottle to my cellar.” Link and
that adds one bottle. IN my case, I bought 4 bottles to use over the holidays
but since the field labels on the web site were not really clear, I put the 4
in the note field instead of the quantity. So it showed 1.

Using the ad a bottle to my cellar link, increased it to 2. So, after hitting
that link 2 more times, I had the correct number. Then there was a save and
done button…

I let them know that a simple edit button that would allow you to enter the
number or change the number just like when you first enter the wine would be
easier for everyone, not just screen reader users.

I have not gotten a picture of a label to work, but that is not surprising to
me. You really have to be in focus for that to work.

I will try to find some bar codes and see if that works, but there again, they
have a specific box you need to line the bar code up with in order for that to
work.

I’m only using the free account. I have not checked into the cost since I
simply want a way to track what is in our cellar/basement, which is where our
wine is stored.

So far, this is easily the best app/web site I have found for tracking wines.

Yes, a spreadsheet would work, but this is/will be much easier once I get
everything set up.

Cool! I’m interested in this as well. A few years ago, I heard about an app on
a ezine I’m subscribed to, which had this cool feature where you could add a
wine to your list just by pointing the camera at the label on the bottle, but
sadly it wasn’t accessible. I didn’t do much more looking at the time, but I’m
definitely interested in trying out this app.

BTW, I agree with your wine shop when it comes to oaky chardonnays, and for
myself, I’m partial to malbecs from South America and sauvignon Blancs from New
Zealand.

Hello,

I have started a new thread from the previous one concerning accessible wine
tracking apps.

Cellar Tracker on first glance is quite accessible.

I wrote and gave them some feedback about the picker item for the area you want
to searhc or add to, and I have to give them a gold star for responsiveness.

Wihtin 30 minutes I had a detailed reply.

They have just been building their app and no there are some things to improve
and add.

The fact that they addressed my comments in detail, gave me both their classic
web site and their modern web site links to try with the screen reader and let
me know they are working on a completely new app that he hopes will be fully
accessible, makes me extremelypositive about this company.

And this is just using the free app so far.

I have not done a lot yet, so stay tuend after I have enter a lot of wines, etc.

easier for everyone, not just screen reader users.

RE: To use app switcher is still 3-finger swipe up?

2022-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
A couple of small correction here:

"As your finger slides upward, three distinct vibrations will be felt, and if
sound effects are turned on, three rising tones will be heard. The first of
these is the Home Screen, the second I forgot, and the third is the App
Switcher"
There are no 3 options here, you have home screen with the first and app
switcher with the second.
When you place your finger at the bottom there is a tone, this would be the
first, but there is no vibration. Second tone and first vibration is home
screen and if you swipe up further you get a third tone and a second vibration
and that is app switcher.

"Since iOS 15, the App Switcher now shows two views of open applications. One
is a read-only list, the other contains actionable items"
I believe you may refer to the initial bug in iOS 16 which showed some apps
twice in the app switcher, but if you have updated to iOS 16.1 this is no
longer the case. I am running the iOS 16.2 public beta, but even before I
upgraded I never had two "views", I have a list of open apps and while some say
"active" and some say nothing that doesn't mean I can't close those which don't
say "active" by swiping up. And yes, you can swipe up with 3 fingers to close
an application or you can flick up or down and Voiceover will say Close
followed by the name of the app, e.g. "Close Mail". You can then double tap and
the app will close. If you want to close multiple apps once you are on "close"
and double tap the next app will slide in and you can simply continue to double
tap since it remains on the "close" setting.

You're both talking at cross-purposes.

1. To engage the App Switcher, place one finger at the bottom center of the
screen and swipe up quickly. As your finger slides upward, three distinct
vibrations will be felt, and if sound effects are turned on, three rising tones
will be heard. The first of these is the Home Screen, the second I forgot, and
the third is the App Switcher.

2. Since iOS 15, the App Switcher now shows two views of open applications. One
is a read-only list, the other contains actionable items. If you want to close
an open application, find it in the list of items where VoiceOver actually says
"Active," then swipe up with three fingers to close it. This is the
three-finger gesture about which you are asking.

So I still have an iphone 8, but I know someone with an iphone 10 r. This

third is the app switcher. So is this no longer the case with ios 16?

Re: To use app switcher is still 3-finger swipe up?

2022-11-16 Thread Steve Matzura

You're both talking at cross-purposes.

1. To engage the App Switcher, place one finger at the bottom center of
the screen and swipe up quickly. As your finger slides upward, three
distinct vibrations will be felt, and if sound effects are turned on,
three rising tones will be heard. The first of these is the Home Screen,
the second I forgot, and the third is the App Switcher.

2. Since iOS 15, the App Switcher now shows two views of open
applications. One is a read-only list, the other contains actionable
items. If you want to close an open application, find it in the list of
items where VoiceOver actually says "Active," then swipe up with three
fingers to close it. This is the three-finger gesture about which you
are asking.

Was it working for you with IOS 15? If so then you shouldn’t be doing
anything wrong, since it should work exactly the same. Put your finger
at the very bottom of the screen and then move it up until you feel
the second vibration. Lift your

Finger, and you should be in the App Switcher. When you try this
gesture, what are you getting?

Since I have iOS 16 this command is not working for me, or perhaps am

Re: What can I do about "Haptic touch"?

Haptic touch is back? Yah-hoo! My 14 Pro Max is on its way, and now I
really can't wait! Have missed it since the demise of my 8.

Hi,

keyboard! Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks, Sandy.

Re: Difficulty in adding signature in my mail

2022-11-16 Thread Bill Gallik
Jenny’s answer is certainly correct, but I want to add that getting into the
edit field to key in your desired signature can be tricky at times. I have two
e-mail accounts so I have two signature blocks and there are times I find
getting into the edit fields can be challenging. This doesn’t always happen,
but I have gotten into the habit of making quite certain I am in the bottom of
each accounts signature area before carrying on.

I should add that I’m frequently modifying my signatures because I include the
iOS version in those signature tags.

I only mention this response so Ketan will realize he is not doing anything
wrong; sometimes, editing those signatures is just plain difficult!

Re: Difficulty in adding signature in my mail

2022-11-16 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Ketan,

How I did it was go to settings, mail, then swipe right or keyboard equivalent
all the way down to signature and double tap. Now you may have options to set
up individual ones or keep it for all accounts. Now swipe right to a text
field. Here, you double tap to start editing. Then you can type it in.

Hope this helps,
