RE: adding Instapaper Read Later bookmark to Safari

2012-10-12 Thread Brett
Hi,

The easiest way to do this is on your phone from the instapaper app itself.
Just go to Settings and double tap on the Add Instapaper booklet to Safari.
In that dialog, tap the Okay button, this will copy the necessary java
script to the clipboard. It will also open a page telling you how to add the
bookmark. You will be asked to bookmark the current page, so add the
bookmark. Before saving the bookmark, double tap the address field and flick
to the clear text button and double tap it. This will clear the current page
address. Use your rotor to get to edit and choose paste to paste the
contents of the clipboard. This will paste in the necessary java script.
Then click the save button. You will now have the instapaper bookmark saved.
To save something to instapaper, just navigate to that page and bring up
your bookmarks and choose the instapaper one.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Hello,

Does anyone know of an accessible way to do this? The app recommends
creating the bookmark in Safari on a Mac and then syncing the iPHone, but
when I tried that on the Mac, I was told to drag the bookmarklet to the
Bookmarks toolbar, and when I use the VO command to drag, I'm told it's not
draggable.

Thanks,

RE: using Instapaper for email

2012-10-12 Thread Brett
Hi,

Your right, this doesn't work, I am not sure if its an iOS6 issue as I had
not previously tried it.

The easiest way I found to do this is to go in to settings in Instapaper and
click on the Add Readlater by email. In that dialog, there will be an email
address that will look something like readlater...@instapaper.com where XXX
will be a ceries of letters and numbers. If you create a new contact on your
PC called Instapaper or what ever and give it the readlater email address,
then sync your contacts, you will be good to go.

Hope this helps,
Brett.

Hello,

As a follow-up to my previous post, I'm having trouble setting up a contact
so I can save emailed articles and links to Instapaper. I go to Settings and
choose to add ReadLater to email, and I double-tap the Add Contact button,
then done to exit Settings, but no contact called ReadLater or Instapaper is

Has anyone done a podcast on using Instapaper?

Hi, there are many types of games available. It depends on what you are
looking for. Adventure, cards, audio, adult, roleplaying, online, not
online, etc. My 2 suggestions are for you to look for the word games or
some variant on the viphone archives since it's been discussed many
times, and 2, visit www.applevis.com and look in their games section.
I'd personally recommend games from Storm8 but not everyone is into those.

Re: using Instapaper for email

2012-10-12 Thread Scott Howell
Correct Brett and this seems to be the easiest way to accomplish this as well.

Your right, this doesn't work, I am not sure if its an iOS6 issue as I had

The easiest way I found to do this is to go in to settings in Instapaper and
click on the Add Readlater by email. In that dialog, there will be an email
address that will look something like readlater...@instapaper.com where XXX
will be a ceries of letters and numbers. If you create a new contact on your
PC called Instapaper or what ever and give it the readlater email address,
then sync your contacts, you will be good to go.

 Hope this helps,

Has anyone done a podcast on using Instapaper?

Hi All,

On my Son's Samsung, there is a function which may be an app that runs in
the background that can be used if you are deep inside of a building and can
not get any cell bars. This app is called WIFI Calling. What I think it
does is connect to one of the carrier's servers so that the phone can make
and receive cell calls as though it had a good connection. I was wondering
if anyone had seen anything like this for the ios operating system that
would work on atT.

Thx -Steve

How to transfer files for Read2Go

Re: adding Instapaper Read Later bookmark to Safari

2012-10-12 Thread Esther
Hi Anna,

The instructions Brett gave work, and I have created the bookmark this
way on my iPhone and iPad. However, I've always found it easier to
create the Instapaper bookmark on my Mac and the sync the bookmarks,
as is also suggested on the Instapaper pages as an easier method.
Whenever you read instructions to drag and drop a bookmark to your
browser's toolbar, use the contextual menu instead: navigate to the
bookmark on that page and copy the link. Create a bookmark, and use
the context menu to edit the address field of the bookmark so you
paste in the java script that you copied. The same instructions work
whether you use a Mac or Windows, and can be applied to any java
bookmarklet, including Google translation bookmarks. The only
specific recommendation for Mac users is that these be saved to your
Bookmarks Bar, so you can activate the Read Later bookmarking with
shortcut keys like Command-1 (if it is the first bookmark in your
Bookmarks Bar). Also, on an iPad I go to the main Settings menu and
under Safari I turn on the switch for Always Show Bookmarks Bar so I
can just flick to Read Later and double tap.

Here's a link to a recent post I wrote on the macvisionaries list with
more detailed information on setting up an Instapaper Bookmark. It
also links to an older Mac-access list post with step-by-step
instructions.
• Re: Instapaper Toolbar Bookmark
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg73710.html

Ironically, this information about Instapaper bookmark creation for
both Safari on the Mac and various browsers on Windows was available
in comments for the original AppleVis app entry when there was
initially a free version of Instapaper. Then, last year in April,
when they started up the Recommend apps that you like feature, I
wrote back that I wanted to recommend Instapaper, but that they had
just discontinued the free version. The response was to remove the
free app description, even though all the useful comments also applied
to the paid version, which many commenters said they had:
www.applevis.com/applevis-forum/site-news-feedback-and-discussion/recommend-apps-you

For the email bookmarking feature I just copied the individual address
they gave me to my Contacts, with the name Instapaper. You can find
the address in your accounts page on the Instapaper web site.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

On Oct 12, 12:17 am, Brett brettst...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hope this helps,
 Brett.

I reset my phone yesterday using both the home and power button, then

reporting to APple.

I have not yet been able to figure out any patterns yet. I managed to
make it lose VO again by having my braille display connected when I did the
power home reboot. The most annoying thing is that the rotors are both set
back to factory defaults each time VO is switched off. Also, triple-click
home is deactivated, so iTunes is necessary for restarting VO on the iPhone.

any particular pattern to reproducing the problem? FOr example, rebooting

times etc.? Perhaps rebooting the phone more than once a week? Also, is
there any particular app that has caused the condition which necessitated a

may be the cause for the loss of speech etc. when the phone is rebooted
using this technique.

Re: iPhone Cases

2012-10-12 Thread James Mannion
I just received today the model that covers the back and sides. This
one is called the Tech21 Impact Snap case for IPhone 5. As I say, I
just received it and put it on, but so far I do like it. My only
question and possible concern so far is not one unique to this case in
any way that is not a factor of others, but that most of the case is
made of polycarbonate, which in my understanding is a form of plastic?
and the thing I wondered about is if that is in fact like plastic in
its heat trapping properties, if it will allow the IPhone to have
enough exposure to be able to sufficiently cool when it heats up from
higher intensity processes. I do wonder if anyone has any insight
about that. I'm sure experience will reveal the reality. If an IPhone
can survive pretty much being sealed off from the world almost within
the Otter Box, I guess this would be the same to a lesser degree than
that though. So as not to confuse anybody, the D3o material is in at
least two strips that run up and down the long edges of the case. I
guess the idea is if this material hardens, it will take the impact
and the other part of the surface area of the case will not take a
direct hit. As mentioned in another reply, this case is pleasing in
that it does not add a lot of bulk to do the job. It also doesn't feel
or look really cheap either. It is pretty nice to the touch when on
the phone especially. Of course it is right against the metal of the
phone so there is that solid backing there, although the case feels
respectibly solid for sure even before you put it on the phone when
you take it out of the package. Make no mistake though, it would not
feel as nice if this was entirely what the phone external casing was
made of from the factory with no metal involved. Plenty of phones on
the market are exactly that or worse. Sometimes much worse. The case
does not get in the way of any buttons or ports. They are all cut out
and it is not the type of case that puts any of its own covers over
any buttons to push them through. In my opinion that is a very good
thing that it does not do that. I don't want to push buttons through a
case's plastic coverings. My preference. Finally, I have come across
youtube videos for a Tech21 case that is said to be entirely real
leather with the D3o in it and of course an internal lining and it is
said to be very nice. It is a flip case. I can not find it anywhere
though, I could not even get it to come up in a search result
searching on the Tech21 site. None of its reviews were done by anyone
in the US though that I found and they only referenced a place to get
it in the UK. I emailed Tech21 about that, to ask about its
availability, we'll see if I get a response. A response won't be til
next week at the earliest though as I just sent the email a few hours
ago.

None of the three models add to the weight, size or bulk in anyway that is
displeasing to me. Usually cases add quite a bit, or enough to notice.

The thing that really impressed me about these cases is the new technology
 in the D3O impact proofing.

To all of you with an iPhone 5, or indeed with other devices including
iPhone 4S etc. I was, like many struggling to find a good quality case.

The Tech21 case is beyond brilliant, it is the first case that I really
 have
felt will do a perfect job of protecting my phone.

Tech21 cases use a new military developed material called D3O to line
 their
cases, when in its normal state the material is gel like, when impacted
though, it becomes like a solid mesh. This mesh like effect spreads the
impact and causes significantly less impact related damage.

I've done a lot of reading around this subject, and the D3O substance is
 simply amazing.

Tech21 make a back cover only, back and front flap which is vertical i.e.
opens like a book, and also a band design which is like the Apple iPHone
 bumper case.

All certainly seem to be available from Amazon.

I cannot recommend this more highly to anyone serious about protecting
 their
 device.

Braille Displays For iPhone

2012-10-12 Thread CD
I am looking at the Focus 14 and also the Refresha Braille. If anyone has
either of these could you write me privately and let me know how you like
them. I would really like to compare the two. I have seen the Refresha
Braille but haven't seen the Focus which I know is less expensive. You can
write me at

cd5...@gmail.com

Carla

Thanks!
