strange problem after updating to 8.1

2014-11-01 Thread Elizabeth Campbell
Hello all,

Yestrday, I updated my iPhone 5s from IOS 7 to 8.1.

Now, I'm having a problem when I plug the lightning cable in to the
computer. The phone doesn't charge, and I get a message from iTunes saying
that I need to connect a USB cable to transfer data.

I'm using the cable that came with my phone and the latest version of
iTunes.

When I plug the phone in to AC power, it charges with no problem.

Do I need to get a new cable from Apple?

Thanks for your help.

Does iTunes see the phone?

Do you have anything else that takes a USB charge that you could plug into the

No way to change that, SIRI doesn’t ask me every time, but it does quite
often and I also find it a bit bothersome especially since it does get cut
off sometimes and it won’t finish and then ask to confirm in which case I
have to pull out my iPhone and double tap on the Call button which is on the
screen. Sometimes when it doesn’t ask automatically you can also push the
home button again or use the remote on the headset and just say “Yes” and it
 will then place the call.

Re: Braille Note Apex Unable To Exit Edits Fields On iPhone6 Revisited?

2014-11-01 Thread Tom Lange

Hi Eileen,
I've definitely run into that problem, in the messages app and in the mail
app, and I'll probably run into it again elsewhere, too. I've also noticed
that it takes a long time for the display to catch up with what I'm writing,
especially if I've set Braille to contracted mode. There are focus issues,
too. Frankly, doing any kind of editing can be a real mess, and I wasn't
sure if it was the fault of IOS/VoiceOver or just me. It couldn't hurt to
mention your issue to Apple, and I'll probably do that too.

Subject: Braille Note Apex Unable To Exit Edits Fields On iPhone6 Revisited?

Hello List,

Please forgive me if this has been discussed recently on the list. With my
iPhone6 using iOS 8.1, it seems that braille input in an edit field gets
stuck there and the only fix is to physically touch the phone's screen to
get out of it. First, have others seen this using a Braille Note Apex?
Secondly, is there a keystroke that will do the trick to get out of the edit
fields using the Apex? And lastly, if this a bug I would love to know, so I
can send a report to the appropriate parties.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Eileen

voice Over crash?

2014-11-01 Thread Regina Alvarado
Not sure what just happened! VO crashed I think. I could go nowhere and do
nothing. Had volume up and mute off, no sounds or voice at all. Thought a trip
to Sprint was in my future. Plugged in to make certain the phone was fully
charged, asked a couple of times for Siri to turn off and on VO, nothing. Went
to take my dogs out when suddenly VO was back! Hmmm! It was about 15 minutes
before it came backe. Phone seems to be fine. Running 8.1. It is an iPhone 6.
Anyone had this happen? What did I do to crash it? Was going to change to
another app. Curious and eager not to do and go through this again. Thanks.

RE: voice Over crash?

2014-11-01 Thread Richard Turner
That kind of VoiceOver disappearing act has been showing up in iOS 8. I have
not had it last so long as 15 minutes, but certainly 2 or 3.

No knowing what causes it.

restoring iPhone to the same IOs

2014-11-01 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi all.

I downloaded the IOs 7.1.2, and I followed the steps about how rename the
file downloaded, and all these steps. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that
if I have the IOs7.1.2 file stored in my computer, and my iPhone is running
IOs 7.1.2, I was able to reinstall IOs7.1.2 again. But iTunes is saying that
an unknown error is happening and the restore can not be done. Now I tried
to do in 2 different computers, one running the last iTunes version, and the
other running the previous version of iTunes, I guess 11.3.1.2 But the same
error.

I was wrong thinking that If I am using IOs 7.1.2 in my iPhone 5s, and if I
have the IOs 7.1.2 file in my computer I was able to reinstall this IOs in
my iPhone again?

If I didn't update my iPhone, but I want to reinstall the current IOs that I
have in my iPhone, and I have the IOs file of my current version stored in
my computer, is no way to reinstall the IOs again?

Thanks

Re: restoring iPhone to the same IOs

2014-11-01 Thread christopher hallsworth
No there isn't because Apple stopped signing it shortly after iOS 8.0.2 was
released. Without this iTunes can't verify the software so therefore cannot
install or reinstall it. The only way around this I believe is to jailbreak the
phone.

A good amount of battery on my iphone 5 after upgrading to IOS 8.1

2014-11-01 Thread Casey

Hi I had my iPhone fully charged today.
And I went out for A few hours.
And came back home and the phone was locked but on and not used for
anything.

And the battery went down 10 percent.
I have location services turned on maybe that is what is doing it.
So any hints tips or tricks for getting the battery to not drain so fast
in IOS 8.1?

Re: A good amount of battery on my iphone 5 after upgrading to IOS 8.1

2014-11-01 Thread Donna
Hi

I'm not using IOS 8.1, but I have found that if I have location services and
wifi turned off and only turn wifi back on if I'm going going to be somewhere
for a while that offers wifi, this saves my battery from draining so fast.

10% for a few hours sounds good to me. Location services is bound to impact

You can turn down the brightness and turn off auto brightness to conserve
battery. Also, under settings, privacy, location services you can choose when
certain apps can use location services. Depending on the application, you can

Re: strange problem after updating to 8.1

2014-11-01 Thread Andy Baracco
Seems like a hardware issue. Either a defective cable or port. Try another
port. If you get the same result, it’s probably the cable.

Does iTunes see the phone?

Do you have anything else that takes a USB charge that you could plug into the
same USB port? It might be the port rather than the cable.

Subject: strange problem after updating to 8.1

Hello all,

Yestrday, I updated my iPhone 5s from IOS 7 to 8.1.

Now, I’m having a problem when I plug the lightning cable in to the computer.
The phone doesn’t charge, and I get a message from iTunes saying that I need to
connect a USB cable to transfer data.

I’m using the cable that came with my phone and the latest version of iTunes.

When I plug the phone in to AC power, it charges with no problem.

Do I need to get a new cable from Apple?

Thanks for your help.

RE: A good amount of battery on my iphone 5 after upgrading to IOS 8.1

2014-11-01 Thread Cristóbal
Try resettig your network settings. I upgraded to 8.1 last week and noticed an
immediate drag on battery performance. I did disable some of the new location
based features included in iOS 8.1, but that didn't help any. Before I did more
drasitc stuff like start deleting apps, restoring the phone, I reset the
network settings and that seemed to have fix whatever problems there were. My
battery usage is now very good. I’m using an iPhone 5 by the way.

Hi I had my iPhone fully charged today.
And I went out for A few hours.
And came back home and the phone was locked but on and not used for anything.
And the battery went down 10 percent.
I have location services turned on maybe that is what is doing it.
So any hints tips or tricks for getting the battery to not drain so fast in IOS
8.1?

Re: Latest Version of Digit Eyes Crashing

2014-11-01 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

CamFind and TapTapSee are developed by the same company. CamFind is a free app
where you take a picture and CamFind will read what what is in the written
word. It will also populate a list of links where you can find information on
the product. TapTapSee is a free download, but because it uses crowd sourcing
you need to purchase a package of a specific amount of pictures. The least
amount of pictures that you can purchase is 50 for $4.99. The app use to be
totally free, but when the monies ran out from the Kit Starter project
(funding) they needed a method to keep the service alive. TapTapSee can tell
you all sorts of of information, as well as Talking Goggles. Talking Goggles is
another free app. It will also reveal written information and identify objects
such as food cans, error messages from a computer screen, and many other
objects. However, it will only capture small amounts of information, which can
be fustrating at times. However, it has gotten me out of a jam when I didn't
have sighted assistance. It's nice to have a choice and lots of tricks on ones
bag to obtain object recognition. I'm sure others will have more to say about
all of these apps and please chime in and correct me if I given incorrect
informaiton.

Best,

WeMoR products?

Hi there,

Has anyone purchased anything that requires the WeMoR app?

I understand there's a new crock-pot slow cooker that is controlled with an

While I'd like something very simple that wouldn't need so much high
technology, this interested me enough to ask about it.

Thanks.

Questions about Lyft app

2014-11-01 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Hi all.

I just downloaded the Lyft app and also looked on the website and I had a
couple of questions.

When you log in and complete your profile, is there a way to correct your
address in the pickup field or do you correct it when you are actually
requesting a ride?

2. On the website there are maps showing areas Lyft can be used where I am. But
of course those maps don’t help me at all. Is there a way to find out specifics
about the limits of pickup and dropoff areas?

I have heard good things about Lyft but I don’t know anybody in my area who has
tried it so I’m a bit nervous about it.

Re: 6+ running 8.1 and notifications question.

2014-11-01 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Billy. If you set touch ID to unlock your phone, then yes this is normal.
However, I think you can flick up with one finger for more options, and one
option should be reply. If you double tap on that, it should give you an
on-screen keyboard where you can send the message. If I'm wrong about all this,
then you guys can correct me.

RE: restoring iPhone to the same IOs

2014-11-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Pablo,

As Christopher pointed out, you can’t go to iOS 7 at this point. Just having
the iOS 7.1.2 software file on your computer doesn’t do anything, if you want
to manually restore from a downloaded IPSW file you have to use the Shift+Enter
command on the Restore button. This will open a standard Windows Open File
dialogue, here you would now browse to the folder where your IPSW file is
located and you would select it. But as I said, this can only be done
successfully if whichever IPSW file you have is still valid/signed by Apple.

If you don’t mind me asking, if you had iOS 7.1.2 on your 5S, why did you want
to restore to the same software? Your only option now is to do a restore which
means that the latest iOS version will be downloaded and your phone will be
restored to iOS 8.1.

Sieghard

Subject: restoring iPhone to the same IOs

Hi all.

I downloaded the IOs 7.1.2, and I followed the steps about how rename the file
downloaded, and all these steps. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that if I have
the IOs7.1.2 file stored in my computer, and my iPhone is running IOs 7.1.2, I
was able to reinstall IOs7.1.2 again. But iTunes is saying that an unknown
error is happening and the restore can not be done. Now I tried to do in 2
different computers, one running the last iTunes version, and the other running
the previous version of iTunes, I guess 11.3.1.2 But the same error.

I was wrong thinking that If I am using IOs 7.1.2 in my iPhone 5s, and if I
have the IOs 7.1.2 file in my computer I was able to reinstall this IOs in my
iPhone again?

If I didn’t update my iPhone, but I want to reinstall the current IOs that I
have in my iPhone, and I have the IOs file of my current version stored in my
computer, is no way to reinstall the IOs again?

Thanks

RE: 6+ running 8.1 and notifications question.

2014-11-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Billy,

Did you have a passcode set on your 4S? I assume you didn't and that is why you
have to unlock with your fingerprint on your 6 Plus. If you have touch Id set
up that means you set up a passcode and security. If somebody could simply tap
on a notification and get into your phone then all that security would be
completely useless.

texting sounds

2014-11-01 Thread Tess
Hello all,

Hoping someone can assist me in this bug problem.

I have the 4S, and have recently updated to the latest version of the IOS.

Lately, I have not been hearing the alert that notifies me when I have a
text message.

I have tried to go into the sounds and into the section where you can change
text notification sounds.

Once I start flicking to the right, the phone knocks me completely out of
the settings mode and back to my home page of my Iphone.

I have shut down my phone and turned it back on, but it knocks me out at the
exact same spot every time.

I can get to where it says something like vibrate notification or something
for texting before it knocks me out and back to my home page.

Any help, or work around for this bug would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

RE: texting sounds

2014-11-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tess,

That’s a small bug which has been discussed and which at least I can easily
avoid on my 5S by not flicking to the right after I open up the text or email
notification sound screen, but instead I just touch the screen in the middle
somewhere to place focus in the list of tones. As soon as I do that I can then
flick left to the start of the list or right to the end and select any tone I
wish.

If you don’t hear your text notification sound, first make sure that in
Settings, Sounds, the ringer and alert volume slider is all the way up to 100%
or at least high enough to where you can hear it. You may want to check to see
if “Change with buttons” is turned on and if so, you can turn this off and this
will avoid the issue that you may accidently lower the volume of alerts and the
phone ringer sound by lowering it with the volume buttons on the side.

Regards,

Sieghard
