RE: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

I really don’t know what to suggest here because I zip my files/folders exactly
the way you described and it worked fine for me.

Hi Sieghard and Richard,

Here is some additional background in case it helps:

I have been using the Dream Reader and Drop Box combination for easily over a
year without issue and I have always preferred to zip folders with multiple mp3
files.
I use the Windows 10 Send to/Compressed (Zipped) Folder option in the
application key context menu to zip folders; this has always worked in the past.
I only have one Drop Box account so it is not possible that I am using the
incorrect Drop Box account.
When I use my PC to add zipped items into the Drop Box desktop application, the
items are visible on the two PCs on which I have Drop Box installed but are not
visible in the Drop Box on my iPhone. If the zipped folder is not visible in
the Drop Box app, it would make sense that it would also not be visible in the
Dream Reader app.
Folders that are not compressed and individual/single mp3 files are visible in
the Drop Box and Dream Reader app.
I experimented by zipping a selection of files instead of a folder, thinking
that the number of folder levels may have something to do with the issue being
experienced, but this did not help.

At this point I am going to pursue this problem as a Drop Box issue.

Mauricio

Hi Mauricio,

I just zipped a folder containing a bunch of audio book files in the iTunes
format and copied it into the Voice Dream folder in Dropbox. I still had a file
in that folder with last September’s Apple Event which was in MP3 format, so
just two files in the folder, the MP3 file and the zipped folder. I then opened
Dropbox on my iPhone, tapped on the Files tab at the bottom and then I double
tapped on the Voice Dream folder and both files were there including the zipped
folder.

I then downloaded Voice Dream to my 6S Plus since I never had it on that phone.
I went to the Settings and enabled Dropbox, then tapped on Add at the top
right, selected Dropbox and first I was asked to allow access to Dropbox from
Voice Dream which I did, once I was in Dropbox I selected the Voice Dream
folder and again both files showed up with a Download button next to each. I
tapped download next to the zipped file which was about 98 Mb and after about
20 seconds the file was there in my Voice Dream library and I was able to start
playing it.

I am not sure what is wrong with your zipped files, how to you zip them? Do you
a third-party application or just the built-in function Windows 7 and also 10
has?
Also, if you check the properties of one of your zipped folders by right
clicking on it and selecting properties (or you can use the Alt+Enter shortcut
for Properties in Windows Explorer) what is the extension of your zipped
file/folder?

Sieghard

Richard,

The issue is that when accessing the Drop Box folder from within Dream Reader,
Dream Reader does not see any of my zipped folders; it does, however, see
folders not zipped. What I just learned while writing this message is that I
cannot see the zipped folders using the Drop Box app either. The zipped folders
are only visible on my PC version of Drop Box…Interesting. This, then, leads me
to believe that perhaps this is a Drop Box app issue?

There is now a download button to the right of the file.

Does this file end in .zip and not something else?

I did what you said, Richard, and I'm pleased to report that all my folders

 Hi,
Yes, you can use the iCloud Sync with one device just as a backup.
The thing some of us, especially me, is confused about is maybe what
books you had in the VDR 4 on your new phone?
I thought you had all your books on the 4s. Or, were you confused
between doing a regular iOS iCloud backup and the new VDR iCloud
 sync?
If that is the case, the two methods have nothing in common.
In order for you to use the iCloud sync:
 1. you have to have iCloud Drive turned on.
Two, you have to have books in VDR running version 4 and enable iCloud
 sync.
 3. You have to wait until it no longer says syncing after the book
 titles.
 4. You now have that library in iCloud drive in a folder called
 Reader.
Then, any device you install VDR 4 on and turn on iCloud sync will
 download that library.

So, if you didn't sync the 4s library first, there is nothing for the
 new phone to sync.
Or am I simply completely missing your point?

On the top of the screen, where it says filter, double tap.
Then, flick right until you get to filter by folders and double tap.
There you get to your folders and the option to filter by "no folder."
That is where the things not in folders will show up.

Okay, just tried downloading a 265 zipped file, from Dropvox to VDR,
and it worked fine. I'm not sure what problem you're having. I'd try
resetting your iPhone by holding down the sleep/wake and home buttons
for 10 seconds, then letting go. Your phone will restart, and this may
fix things.

I've easily downloaded a zip file from Dropbox to VDR that was 268 MB
before with no problems. Granted, this was with the version just
before 4.0, but I'll try again and see what happens. I also don't zip

Re: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems the larger the file is, the harder it is
to have voice dream sync it. Smaller files are much easier. I don't know
about zepped files, it is easier for me to unzip them on the computer and let
them sync to dropbox.

So, Winston didn't get back to me, but I thought I'd try things again,
especially after VDR got a minor update to version 4. I updated to the
latest version of VDR on my 4S and 6S, turned on Cloud sync, and let
things sit for a while. I can report that things came over
beautifully! Well, except for my folders. Speaking of folders, has
anyone else noticed the move to folder option in the actions part of
the rotor? Really slick!

Can someone explain to me how you can see only the files that haven't
been moved into folders? A little confused on that. Also, when I
create a folder, how can I get to them? Does a folders button appear
on the app's main screen like before?

If you did not previously use VDR'S iCloud sync feature then there
would have been nothing in iCloud Drive for the new phone to sync
 with.
If you did an incrypted backup of the 4s, try restoring that backup
to the 4s which should put back the library that was there when you
 backed it up.
Then update VDR to version 4 and do the sync, then everything should
show up on your new phone.

RE: Question concerning Spotify, and some album releases

2016-04-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
She is probably happy to count the millions from actual album sales, either
digital or actual hard copies and in the meantime she’s waiting to see which
streaming service offers her the most money. OK, so that’s the cynical view,
but here are two articles so maybe I’m not too far off:

If you want to hear the biggest album of the year, you're going to have to buy
it -- as in, actually pay for a physical copy or a download. The New York Times
reported Thursday that Adele's "25," a record so hotly anticipated that it's
broken preorder sales records (it officially comes out Friday), will not be
available on on-demand streaming music services like Spotify, Apple Music and
Tidal.

Unlike Taylor Swift, who made headlines earlier this year when she pulled her
entire catalog off Spotify and wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal saying
she felt those services did not adequately compensate artists, Adele has kept
her past releases up on streaming music services, including "Hello," the first
single off "25." Since “Hello” was released in late October, the song has been
a popular choice for Spotify’s users; it has been streamed more than 156
million times.

In the 21st century, both physical and digital album sales have cratered around
the world, first because of file sharing, then the disaggregation of the album
and, most recently, thanks to streaming services, which allow users unlimited
on-demand access to almost any music recording in exchange for a monthly
subscription fee (or, in the case of YouTube, in exchange for sitting through
the occasional pre-roll advertisement).

Yet amid that downward slide, Adele emerged among a handful of artists capable
of selling enormous numbers of records. Her previous album, "21," released in
2011, was the longest-running No. 1 album in the U.K. in 45 years, according to
the Official Charts Company, and it sold so many copies worldwide that it
single-handedly broke a 10-year streak of declines in global recorded music
revenue.

Adele, who declined to comment on the Times report, apparently decided she will
maximize the profits on this release's hype, opting to limit the album to
digital and physical releases for now. Rather than earning fractions of cents
on each track’s listen, she will go for the dollars or whole cents she will
earn from selling the album. However, fans looking to cherrypick their favorite
songs will have that option; songs from "25" will be available a la carte as
well.

CNN Money had this to say:

Adele's latest and highly anticipated album, "25," will not be available on
music streaming services, according to an executive with knowledge of the
release strategy.
The New York Times, which first reported the streaming decision on Thursday,
said Adele was personally involved in making it.
Adele is one of a small number of A-list artists who can make potentially more
money by foregoing sites like Spotify and Apple Music.
"Adele is an anomaly. If she decided to release her album on cassette tapes, it
would still be the biggest album of the year," an industry source said.
The music label has indicated to streaming executives that "25" will stay off
Spotify-like services indefinitely, but that calculation could change in the
coming months.
Spotify's statement was optimistic.
"We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify. We hope that
she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy '25' on Spotify alongside
'19' and '21' very soon," Spotify said in a statement.
The album, which is set for release Friday, will be pirated of course —
published illicitly on file sharing web sites and on sites like YouTube. But
Adele's label has an aggressive plan in place to fight attempts to digitally
steal the songs, the executive source said.
Adele's prior records, "19" and "21," are available on some streaming services,
and the decision involving "25" won't affect that.

Related: Adele's 'Hello' sparks an obsession
Her first single from "25," "Hello," became the first song to sell more than
one million U.S. downloads in a week earlier this month will also remain online
— it promotes the release of the full album.
"Hello" has also been streamed more than 156 million times on Spotify already,
which puts it ahead of all of her other songs except for "Rolling in the Deep,"
which has been streamed 188 million times.
The anticipation for "25" has been growing since 2011 when Adele's last album,
"21," won multiple Grammys and selling more than 11 million copies.

Hello Jenifer,

It is important to note that you do not need an actual touch-screen in order to
use the Jaws Touch Cursor.

Effectively, the Touch Cursor acts a bit like a linear form of VoiceOver. This
is to say, the cursor will find and, if possible, interact with all of the
elements on the display, including those not accessible to the Jaws or PC
Cursor. Generally speaking, use the Jaws key plus the arrow keys to explore
the display with the Touch Cursor.

I use it, almost exclusively with iTunes whenever the standard command or tab
key navigation does not take me to my desired destination.

Braille functionality notwithstanding, It is, by far and away, my favorite
feature of Jaws, these days.

Mark.

Hi Jen, I have to get to work and maybe Mark will explain more, but here is a
bit about the touch cursor.
The Touch Cursor was first introduced in 2014 with the release of Jaws 15. You
invoke the touch cursor with Shift+PC cursor. After that if you press the PC
cursor button (Numpad+) Jaws will say "Touch cursor, double tap to activate the
PC cursor".

You can read more here:

http://doccenter.freedomscientific.com/doccenter/archives/trainingdocs/2014-07-24_windows8-easi/03_AppsWithJAWS15.htm

This article talks about Jaws 15, but all that is said about the touch cursor
is the same in Jaws 17 and it gives you an overview. It is a good idea to learn
about this and all the other features of Jaws that are new because I think a
lot of fairly long-term Jaws users know what they know from way back and often
don't even take advantage of the new features. I have run into this before
where like you somebody didn't even know about a fairly major and useful
feature several years after it was first released.
I always find it useful to keep up with what is new in each version by
listening to Jonathan Mosen's FS Cast. Each year in the fall when a new Jaws
version is released he does a series of Podcasts which introduce the new
features and give an overview.

Having said all this, I actually don't use the touch cursor much in iTunes,
I'll actually have to give it a try myself tonight, but so far I can usually
get to where I want to be and do what I want to do using F6 and the tab key. I
have purchased 2 seasons of Star Trek Voyager and I'll take a look tonight and
then if you like we can chat some more, feel free to take it off-list since
it's not totally iOS related at this point, email me at siegh...@live.ca.

As far as I know You can only call people that are contacts, it’s not like
Skype where you can buy credit or a calling plan and call regular phone

always exactly in the same spot depending on where you are. If you have an

contact from contacts or favorites it seems the top right is a profile picture

I use an Omars 32 gigabyte flash drive. On one end of the drive is the
lightning port and the other end is the USB port. The first time you put the
drive into the iPhone, you'll get a box that invites you to install the
software from the App store.

Re: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

2016-04-09 Thread Richard Turner

i think the issue is that your PC isn't uploading the files to DropBox, or you
are not logged into Dropbox with the same email on the app and PC. I'm betting
it is the first reason. That for some reason the files are just on your PC.
I'm not sure why that would be, but that is the only thing I can think of that
fits your situation.

I have the premium version of Spotify, and I use it on my iPhone five ass all

Does anyone know why this is?

I have also realized this issue with Kenny Chesney's latest album. Why does

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much!

RE: An app for news from Associated press

2016-04-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Olga,

Is there some reason why you do not use Twitter and simply choose to follow the
Associated Press, setting Tweet notifications to on? Doing so would give you
push notifications, allowing you to see the headlines with the ability to drill
down to the entire article. You could use the same method for CNN or any other
news source you choose to follow.

Question concerning Spotify, and some album releases

2016-04-09 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am not quite sure where else to ask this question. So I hope it is all
right that I chose to ask it here?

I have the premium version of Spotify, and I use it on my iPhone five ass
all the time. I love it! Anyway, I have been wanting to hear the latest
album by Adele. But for some reason, only two songs have been released that
album.
Does anyone know why this is?

I have also realized this issue with Kenny Chesney's latest album. Why does
this happen? Am I missing something? Is there a way to find a whole album?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Terri

Re: An app for news from Associated press

2016-04-09 Thread 'Olga Koeva' via VIPhone
   Hi Anna and others!
Thanks for the info! I tried all the apps you have recommended. The AP app
doesn't work. When I open it, you have to log in with some URL (I have no idea
which URL I have to write), username and password. Is it this app you mean? The
Breaking News shows only the topics of each piece of news. I can't see the
details, the detailed reports. Is there any news app where you can find
detailed news?

RE: iTunes, jaws and win10.

2016-04-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard

RE: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

2016-04-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Subject: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

Hi All,

Since the recent update to Dream Reader, it appears the method to add
audiobooks to Dream Reader from Drop Box has changed. Prior to the latest
update, the audiobook would be placed in a zipped format in Drop Box and found
using the “Add” button in Dream Reader. Since the update, Dream Reader does not
see the zipped items in Drop Box though it does see the mp3 files when placed
in a non-zipped folder. Adding audiobooks to Dream Reader by adding the
individual files that make up the entire book is inconvenient. I suspect I am
probably missing something so any assistance would be appreciated.

2016-04-09 Thread Jenifer Barr
Hi Sieghard.
I'm in the TV shows radio button. I'm trying to focus on a particular
show that I've purchased the season pass for. I'm trying to listen to
an episode but jaws seems to lose focus or keep focus on the first
show... *not even the actual series* I have in my list. For example.
I have a tv show tiat I've purchased different episodes for two
different seasons. I'm focused on that particular show, but I can't
enter on the season I want the episode for. When I shift tab...
thinking I have to go through the prior box first... focus is on a
totally different tv show. I hope that makes sence.

RE: Whats APP.

2016-04-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As far as I know You can only call people that are contacts, it’s not like
Skype where you can buy credit or a calling plan and call regular phone
numbers. If you tap on a contact there is a “Call” button at the top, it’s not
always exactly in the same spot depending on where you are. If you have an
existing chat and open it, the call button is at the top right. If you open a
contact from contacts or favorites it seems the top right is a profile picture
button and the call button is just to the left of that.

Hope that helps,

RE: Latest Version of Dream Reader and Adding Files from Drop Box

2016-04-09 Thread Mauricio Molina

 Hi!
 Let's do it this way.
First of all, you delete all existing timers so you have a large space
 to
 work with.
 Then...
 1. Tap the New Timer option.
 2. Name it, decide will it vibrate or not, set the finishing sound and
 the
 first part is done.
 3. Now select the newly created timer, open it on more info link and
 find
the option named "add a interval".
 4. Name the interval, set the time length in hh:mm:ss form, add a
 starting
sound for it and don't touch anything else.
 5. When you are done with the first interval, create another one and do
 the same with it.

That's te basics. If you want to create more complex timers you can set
the duration end alert for the each interval in the timer so, let's
 say,
you're working out pushups for pet mins and you can set the end
 duration
alert 10 seconds prior to interval ending.
There's also an option to shuffle intervals randomly but I didn't test
 it.

 S poštovanjem

Jenifer,

I have much success using the Jaws 17 Touch Cursor in the iTunes application on
Windows 10.

Give it a try.

Mark

Subject: iTunes, jaws and win10.

Hi all.
I'm having a horrible time navigating the latest iTunes with jaws 17.
Nothing seems to be accessible. IE... I'm trying to download some purchased TV
shows to my computer, and selecting things with space seems to do nothing. Is
anyone else having issues with iTunes and jaws? I'm so sorry if this is O/T,
but I'm desperate. I'm using the latest version... bot sure what it is, sorry.
 I'm also using jaws 17.
Thanks to *anyone* who can help me!
(smile)
Jen
