You look up the airport you will be using and the app gives you directions for
where the dog relief area is.

Re: Any Time Warner app users out there

Yes, and I heard Charter's app is even harder when it comes to on demand and
accessibility. I wish some of that would've been included in the conditions
they have to agree to for this to go through, at least, if the FCC couldn't
make them make the app stuff accessible, to do the cable boxes by next year
or whenever that is where new ones have to be accessible, supposedly.

The timewarner app has gone a few steps backwards in the latest version.

You now lose access to the dvr which worked in earlier versions and I
believe the guide is now less accessible.

You have to search for a show now instead of being able to just see
whats on.

They say they are working on fixing it.

Big sigh!

the app. One person did say that she was using it successfully. Well, I
began to play with the app and I did it one day over the phone with a
sighted friend who was using the app. It really didn't make much
difference if a sighted person or a blind person was using it. But, the
buttons in the menu were labeled for a sighted person and for a VoiceOver
user, they all sounded like "circle arrow." Once I picked the right
"circle arrow" button, (I pressed the second one after hearing "menu
Image,") all the channels are labeled correctly and there is an "option"
button that is labeled after each one. When that button is clicked, there
are choices that are labeled. So, my husband, who is also a Voiceover
user, and I regularly watch TV using our iPhones. Brian, I'd be happy to
help you with the app. If you want to just hear what it would be like, we
can do it over the phone. I don't have your phone number, so, if you do
want help, send me an e-mail off list. I will admit, though, that the
Time Warner is easier to use, but, we really like FIOS much better and we
are saving money with it.

Thanks so much for confirming. Looks like I am going to make the switch

with their absolute lack of accessibility and obviously they have no plans
to improve the accessibility of their website or app. Ridiculous for a

Hi Steve,

Did you copy your entire iTunes folder to some backup media such as a USB stick
or external hard drive before you reinstalled Windows and iTunes? If so, after
you installed iTunes again, did you delete the iTunes folder which would have
been created during the installation and copy back the backup folder? This is
the best way to make sure everything is as it was since the iTunes folder
contains not only your iTunes media folder which has all your music, tones
etc., but also it contains the database file and all your settings etc.

Hi,

I’m getting a message I’ve never seen with itunes. When I tell it to sync
music or apps, it is telling me that the phone is synked with another library
and it gives the name of that library which is the name of my computer before I
had to erase and rebuild it with a new installation of Windows and itunes. The
prompt wants me to erase my iphone and restore it using the library from the
old hard drive since it says it can only be synked to one library at a time.
No idea how a second library got created or where it came from. I don’t want
to do this as those files no lonhger exist on the computer if the sync uses the
computer I will loose everything on my phone. If the library it is talking
about is actually on my phone then I guess it would be ok???
Apple support was no help.

I’m not panicing here as everything is safely still on my iphone but I need to
figure out how to get it in to itunes so I can put it on my new iphone.

Any thoughts?
Thanks -Steve

Re: Deleting A Contact In WhatsApp?

2016-05-11 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
You can not delete a contact from the whatsapp, because whatsapp
takes contacts from your phonebook only. So you will have to delete it
from your phone. Go to Phone, then contacts, find out the desired
contact, double tab it, then go in edit option, there you can find an
option to delete it.

Deleting A Contact In WhatsApp?

2016-05-11 Thread Fazil
Hi, list.

I have IPhone5S with IOS9.3.

I gotta question about deleting a WhatsApp contact. I am a group admin of
one of the WhatsApp group. If some one ask me to add them to the group, I
add them first to my contact and then to the group because it is easy adding
this way. I however, ended up gathering so many unwanted contacts in my
contacts app. I tried to delete one of such contacts from WhatsApp contact
but could not find the delete button there, I also tried to delete this
contact from the app of phone contact but did not get the delete-button
there either.

how can I delete a WhatsApp contact either from the phone or from Whats

App, please?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I think I had that same message- probably when Windows7 had to be reinstalled.
Apple Accessibility was helpful in my case, and I think I did say OK to the

saying so. I’d try Apple Accessibility again- perhaps you’ll have better luck
this time J

Re: ITUNES AND UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10

2016-05-11 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for your hints and they were much as I thought ... so I had it
right! Now I'm in Windows 10 and this is my first real task (reading
mail, which isn't really any different) after re-installing Jaws. I
remember to take all versions of Jaws out and everything installed OK.

As to whether things are in a mess and I'll have to eventually
re-install, I wouldn't know yet as I haven't even had chance to look at
the docs given to me, but I'll make my judgment in due course. At least
it's gone onto my laptop, which started off with XP years back, had a
bit of a face-lift about a year or so back and has gone from Windows 7
now to 10. It seems to be as fast as I would expect it to be.

Great, and thanks!

We'll talk again soon.

iTunes you can do so, then before you open the program for the first time
delete the iTunes folder the install created in your Music folder and replace
it with the one you copied from your old machine. Now if you open iTunes all
should be as it was on your old machine.

I know this is not what some say is necessary and it's beyond the scope of this list, but
I assume you are on Jaws 17 and I would recommend that you completely uninstall it before
the upgrade and then reinstall it once the Windows 10 update has finished and everything
is working. It "should" go OK without this as long as you are on one of the
Jaws versions of course which support Windows 10, but when I did the update on my laptop
with Jaws in place all sort of things were weird and not talking properly. I then
actually went a step further and completely wiped the computer, repartitioned and
reformatted the hard drive (an SSD in my case) and reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch
after I used the Media Creation Tool to put Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit on a USB stick from
which I could install. After that I reinstalled Jaws and all worked beautifully. Of
course this also was a year ago and Windows 10 is a lot further along than it was then.
My Mom upgraded her PC without any issues and so did my brother.

Subject: ITUNES AND UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10

Hi all,

The time has come for me to upgrade the computer on which I have iTunes
and I really need advice, as soon as possible, as it's being sorted
tomorrow by a tech friend who knows much better than I, but he doesn't
use iTunes.

Can anyone please tell me what I need to do to ensure that I can get
back into the programme, preferably without having to do all the initial
setting up and putting all my music there once again. Of course I
realise the upgrade itself may not go to plan and will deal with those
eventualities, but would be so glad of some advice on how I should do
this, assuming all works well. My other PC does not have iTunes on it
but I do have all my music safely stored away, should I really come unstuck.

Please let me know specifically what I need to backup for iTunes to work
correctly.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

RE: VoiceOver Speaks Through The Earpiece

2016-05-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It depends on the Bluetooth headset. The Plantronics Voyager Edge I just
recently bought is pretty good and there are stereo Bluetooth headsets which
sound very good for music listening, but phone calls are always of reduced
quality. This may not be so noticeable during a regular phone call, but if you
talk to somebody on Skype or via Facetime and the other person uses a Bluetooth
headset they will not sound as good as with a wired headset, that is simply the
nature of the beast. I find it’s adequate for regular calls but I don’t use it
if I talk to somebody on Skype or Facetime because I use these services to some
degree because of the high call quality.

It is also interesting that the call quality with very expensive stereo
headsets is usual;ly even worse. I guess the manufacturers think people use
them for music listening and making or receiving a phone call is not important.
Therefore they don’t put the same quality of microphones and noise cancellation
in. The Plantronics Backbeat Sense which I recently purchased and consequently
returned was aweful that way. I could not get it to even understand me a single
time when I tried to use SIRI even for something as simple as “What is the
time”. It would beep, I would say “What is the time” and SIRI wold come back
and tell me it had trouble understanding me and to try again. A little bit
disappointing if you spend $200 Canadian on a headset, I think that particular
headset is $140 or
$150 in the States, still not cheap and only released last year with Bluetooth
4.0; one would expect better.

CloudClip. I absolutely love this app. I have it on both my iDevices
& Mac. What I copy to the clipboard is available on each device.
Every so often, it is a bit buggy & doesn’t copy over right away, but
most of the time it works brilliantly.

Twitterrific. This is my go to Twitter app.
TV Remote from xFinity. I use this app a bit more on my iPad, because
the episodes are in folders. Lol, I use it mostly on my phone to turn
the channel. ;)

My Fitness Pal. Even if I am not tracking calories, I use this app to
identify foods & drinks. Learn the serving size & nutrition.

DraftPad. I’ve had this app for a long time, but still find it
useful, if I quickly want to compose a text or long post, without
accidentally sending it. :) Lol, I’ve even done things, like while
at home I write out a check in post for Facebook, because I know I’ll
want to check in from the restaurant but not necessarily type it out
or dictate it in public.

This isn’t an app, but it is a way to use IOS. I have a Safari Icon
for the website DirectionsForMe.org This
website is very handy for obtaining directions/instructions for foods
& or drinks. I have another Safari icon for a local radio station’s
playlist. Yet another one for a radio station’s weekly stream of it’s
Saturday night broadcast. Love those Safari icons. :)

Hopefully the above list is helpful & not too long.

I was having lunch with a friend today at a sunny outdoor café and,

regular basis came up. As we began listing our favorite apps, I

Below I will list the apps I used today and/or within the last two

I use the iOS clock for wake-up alarms and in some cases, to time

2.

I use my Calendar for virtually all my appointments. Today, for

I use my financial institutions, including banks and credit card

 Just as

2016-05-11 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Jim, a couple of things in addition to Sieghard's explanation.
Adding services with the PC Sonos controller is quite a bit easier I think.
That's not to say that it's not doable with iOS, but you have to explore by
touch rather than flick. Hartgen Consultancy has released some free scripts for
the Windows Sonos controller, so if you're a JAWS and Windows user, it's worth
grabbing them.
Second, yesterday I released my new book, Sonosthesia. It's a handy guide for
everyone from Sonos experts to people who just want to know whether a Sonos
system is for them.
It's at:

Good luck, we love our Sonos system which has a habit of expanding all the time.

Hello List,

I obtained permission from the list moderator to post this message.
I have a VarioUltra 40-cell braille display for sell. The unit is in perfect

It is also still under the original warranty from Baum USA, and there are no
fees for transferring support to the buyer.
I’ll provide a link to the Baum website so you can read all about what the
device is capable of. The quick highlights are:

up to four simultaneous bluetooth connections
One USB connection
Works as a stand alone device in notetaker mode
I am asking $2500 including shipping and insurance. I can negotiate if you want
to make a reasonable offer, but one of these brand new costs $3400 in the U.S.
Please contact me off the list at

Hi Ron,

That CIBC guy is clueless, if you had to unlock your phone and open the wallet

Sieghard,

Apple says you don’t have to but the guy at CIBC told me the wallet app should
be open. I don’t know either way because I haven’t tried it yet. Apple says
you can do it from the locked screen if you tap the home button twice but, if
VO is active, that double tap goes to the app switcher. I kind of gathered
that I would have to unlock the screen and then it should work but, then again,
the guy at CIBC told me the wallet app should be open so, who do I believe.

Any comments anyone?

Hi again,

OK, of course I had to try this so when I had to run a few erands today with my
manager I asked him to go through the McDonald drive-through. When we came to
the pick-up window the lady gave him the machine, I leaned over and held my
iPhone 6S Plus up to it after waking it up (I was on the lockscreen). I saw
that it popped up with my CIBC Visa and I put my thumb on the home button, but
nothing happened. I finally tapped on “Use Passcode” and the keypad came up,
but I was not able to enter my passcode because the phone/Voiceover became so
entirely sluggish that I couldn’t do anything. Of course it was lunch hour and
cars were piling up behind us. I tried to enter my passcode but couldn’t do it
because of the sluggishness of the phone.
I finally pulled out my Mastercard and had barely tapped it against the machine
when it beeped and the transaction was approved.
So, Apple Pay 0, tap method 1. I have to try again another time maybe at a
place where there is no time pressure. I did go into Settings > Passcode and
Touch Id afterwards to make sure, but Touch Id was enabled for Apple Pay so
that was not the reason.

Hi fellow Canadians,

This morning I was browsing through the news articles with the CBC News app on
my iPhone and in the Tech and Science section found an article which surprised
me and also made me quite happy.
The article explained that as of today CIBC and Royal Bank credit card holders
can add their credit cards in the Wallet app and use Apple Pay. So far only
American express card holders were able to use Apple Pay in Canada (since last
November I think) and not that many people here have American Express cards and
in many stores even some larger chains they aren’t even accepted since they
charge a much higher percentage for the merchant. I accept American Express at
my store and get charged 3.5% whereas I only pay 1.6% for Visa and Mastercard
although there are a few extra fees on top of that 1.6% for premium cards,
corporate cards etc.
Anyhow, the article went on to say that Bank of Montreal Mastercards should
follow soon and that Scotia and TD debit cards are not far behind.
I am a Scotia Bank customer both for my business and personal accounts, but I
do have a CIBC Aeroplan Gold Visa so I promptly opened Wallet and within a
minute or two I had added my card.
I was still in bed as it was early and too lazy to go get my card to try and
take a picture of it so I chose to add it manually.
When I first started I was asked for my Apple Id password. I then typed in the
card number, tapped next and then selected the expiry date and typed in the
3-digit card verification code. After tapping next again I was asked to select
a verification option and here I had email or text message as an option. I
selected text message and 2 seconds after I tapped Next I received a text
message with a 6-digit code which I had to type in, after that I received the
message that my card had been added.
It will be interesting to see if this works at most places where contactless
transactions are already an option which is very common here. The article says

RE: Apple Pay finally gets main stream support in Canada

2016-05-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ron,

Yes, I did see the option to activate it by calling, but since email and text
message was also an option I did it that way and I think doing it this way is
much faster because I never even left the setup screen. After I tapped on text
message the it took maybe 2 or 3 seconds for the text message to arrive and
since I have notifications set to banner and my screen was unlocked Voiceover
automatically read the text message, I listened to the code and typed it in and
that was that.

Anyhow, I also read about the $100 limit and I don’t think I would try to run
multiple transactions as that sounds like too much trouble compared to just
sticking in my real card and typing in a 4-digit PIN. Maybe if only a touch
screen terminal was available I would insist of doing it the other way. But I
find that many places where they have touch screen terminals there is at least
one other one that has buttons.

Hi
Sieghard,

In my case, I called the CIBC 800 number and selected to talk to a human. The
guy walked me through it. In my case, I had already been using my CIBC Visa
card in the Apple store so it came up automatically with the 4 last digits
showing. I just had to tap on add and agree to the terms. Since I was on the
phone with the guy, he authorized my card to be used without having to send me
the 6 digit code. I then got this message congratulating me and my card was
added.

>From what the guy told me, my phone can now be used at any terminal where a

In the stores where I am known, they have suggested charging twice if the
amount was over $100 so I made a payment of $100 and then another payment of
the balance. That’s with tapping my card but, he told me the same can be done
if the clerk is willing to.

a verification option and here I had email or text message as an option. I
selected text message and 2 seconds after I tapped Next I received a text
message with a 6-digit code which I had to type in, after that I received the
message that my card had been added.
It will be interesting to see if this works at most places where contactless
transactions are already an option which is very common here. The article says
this:

"With the support of two of the largest banks in Canada, BMO Financial Group
and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), consumer adoption of Apple Pay is expected to
increase significantly," the statement said. "Many of Moneris's largest
customers, including McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited, are 100 per cent
contactless enabled and ready to accept Apple Pay."
London Drugs, Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, Petro-Canada, and Pizza Hut are among
the stores ready for Apple Pay, according to Apple's website.

I have a feeling that Apple Pay adoption here in Canada will be very fast since
when it comes to contactless payments we are a lot further along as stores in
the States. Here chip cards have been around for many

Hi Ron,

Apple Pay is a “contactless” payment method just like tapping a chip card is.
However, in the article on CBC it was not mentioned that Apple Pay
automatically works on any tap enabled credit card terminal. I’ll try it later
at Shoppers Drug Mart and see if it works.

Hi ED,

Not all credit card machines can take a tap of the card and, from what I was
told, Apple pay works on the terminals where you can tap the card.

Hey,

I tried this in Walgreens here in Montana (USA). It worked pretty well, and was
pretty quick. I tried it when it was announced, and it wasn’t as accessible as
I would have liked. I still had to put in a pin on the credit card machine.

Thanks,

nothing happened.

It will be interesting to see if this works at most

If you invoke SIRI from a Bluetooth headset and it speaks through the phone you
can look for an audio routing button on your phone. Tap it and select your
Bluetooth headset and then SIRI will come through your headset.
I believe it's usually located near the bottom of the screen.

2016-05-11 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Ron and all,

Go into Settings/Wallet & Apple Pay and make sure "double-click Home button" is
on. Regardless of whether VoiceOver is on or not pressing Home twice when the
phone is locked will then get it ready for a transaction. Pressing Home twice
brings up the app switcher only if the phone is unlocked. I believe you
double-click and then leave your finger on the Home button.

In some cases, you may not have to double-click Home; touching the Home button
may be enough.

Best,
Anna

Hi

This is due to some audio streaming apps like whatsapp, roger or zello. they
all can cause this bug.
In most cases, deleting the apps from the app switcher solves the problem.

Hi, list.

I have Iphone5s with IOS9.31.

Sometimes VoiceOver switches to the earpiece and I have to restart the phone in
order to bring VO back to the main speaker.

Is there a way that I don’t have to restart the phone to switch VO back to main
speaker?

Thanks!

RE: My first attempt to use Apple Pay, was: Apple Pay finally gets main stream support in Canada

2016-05-11 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sieghard,

I’ve never tried using Apple Pay via a drive-through but, in the normal course
of events, I do the following at MacDonald’s, inside the restaurant.

1.
As a general rule of thumb, I restart my phone at the beginning of every day.

2.
Once the order has been placed, I ask the sales associate, if she/he is ready
to receive payment. You would be amazed at how often he/she will reply, “Just
one moment.”

3.
Once the okay is given, with the phone locked, with my thumb on the Home
button—not pressing it but merely touching it, I lower the phone down to almost
touching the terminal. I hold the phone there for about 1-2 seconds until it
vibrates. During that time, the phone wakes up and the transaction takes
place.

That’s really all there is to it.

Now keep in mind that I have not disabled any Touch-ID lock screen features.

Mark

Subject: My first attempt to use Apple Pay, was: Apple Pay finally gets main
stream support in Canada

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Apple Pay finally gets main stream support in Canada

The article says
this:

"With the support of two of the largest banks in Canada, BMO Financial Group
and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), consumer adoption of Apple Pay is expected to
increase significantly," the statement said. "Many of Moneris's

Re: "Where to Go" dog relief area app issue

2016-05-11 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Have you rebooted your i device lately?? sometimes this can help..
I haven’t had to use that particular app for a while now, but when I did, it
worked fine. this was about three years ago, though, so I’m not sure if
they’ve changed anything, etc, or if they are keeping up with things.

hth,
Caitlyn
