I actually have a UE Boom, but I'm not a fan of how muffled VoiceOver sounds
over it. I'll have to check out that company, the one whos website you
mentioned.

Not with a touchscreen. I'm not sure about using the keyboard. On the Mac,
there is a command for this and it works great. But I don't know if it works on

RE: Water resistant bluetooth speaker that will make you smile

2017-01-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Outdoor Tech Turtle 2 speaker has Play/Pause and volume/track controls and
sort of the best in that category but probably also the most expensive would be
theUE Boom or whatever they are called from Logitech. They are cylindrical
speakers similar to the Amazon echo which throw sound all the way 360 degrees,
but as I said, they aren’t cheap.
I also just listened to a Podcast about this year’s CES in Las Vegas and they
mentioned another one which is supposed to be good and much less expensive,
they are from a company called Fugoo, their website is
www.fugoo.com and the website comes up with the heading
“The Best Waterproof Bluetooth Speakers for Outdoors”.
One of their speaker boast a very impressive 40 hour battery life and it seems
they use Bluetooth 4.2 with up to 100 feet or 30 metres range – I may just have
to buy another bluetooth speaker!

Sieghard, I so know what you mean. I've been wanting a waterproof shower
speaker for a while now. I'm thinking of getting the Boom Swimmer. It has a
tail you can bend to rap around things, az well az a suction cup. I like the
tail because I don't have any good surface to stick a suction cup to in my
bathroom. I believe the speaker will also let you control tracks as well as
volume, so you can do everything from the speaker, and don't have to touch your
phone while in the shower. It's surprisingly hard to find a waterproof speaker
that lets you control tracks and volume directly from the speaker.

I've also had my iPhone 6S fall in to my toilet! Ugh! I have a little shelf
right above the tank of my toilet, and I accidentally yanked the phone off of
it via the headphone cable, and splash! I'm so glad it wasn't ruined! The
bottom speaker got rather muffled, but I stood it upright so that the water
would drain out of it, and it was fine after a little while.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Dish Anywhere app

2017-01-09 Thread Shane Clark82
Hi Joseph,

I use the Dish Anywhere app on a pretty frequent basis, and find it to be
very accessible. I can't set and delete my DVR recordings, as well as watch
them on my phone or on the TV. I had to get someone to tell me what the
unlabeled buttons were to fast forward, Paws, and Rewind but I've then
labeled them and all works as it should.

They have a hopper out now that Reed's various menus while you're scrolling
around using the remote? How does this text to speech work? I didn't know
they had one out there that would do this.

Shane.

Hi Murray,

Yes, the Edge is smaller than the Legend.

I loved my Legend and bought an Edge as a spare for when I misplaced my Legend.
Once I started using the Edge, I wasn't impressed at first, But then I went
back to the Legend, and I thought it was just too big and bulky compared to the
Edge. I've been using my Edge since, and just bought a second as a backup, and
because I was a little rough with the ear loop and broke it. My fault totally.

I tried the Plantronics Voyager and it was just too big and I could not keep it
on my ear. I understand that the Edge is smaller. Is this true? I might give it
a try because I do think the Voyager was a great headset in every other way but
the size.

Well, with respect to using the headset with two devices my Plantronics Voyager
Edge works a lot better then. I actually just paired it with my Apple Watch and
it works great. When I turn it on it will say "Phone 1 connected" and a second
or two later "Phone 2 connected". Then if I am listening to an Audible book on
my phone and a notification comes in on the watch I hear the notification
sound, if I wake up the watch my book stops and Voiceover from the watch speaks
via the headset and as soon as it's done there is maybe just a second or so
delay and my book automatically starts reading again. It works great and I'm
convinced now after reading some reviews and hearing some of the feedback from
Voiceover users that I am going to wait at least until Apple releases the
second generation of Airpods which I wouldn't be surprised will be this fall.
They are too expensive to buy now and then maybe in 9 or 10 months they are way
better and then you kick yourself for not waiting.

OK. I can get the watch to connect consistently now but it's not useful as I'll
explain.
You have to hold one of the airpods in your hand right on top of the watch and
with that same hand I hit the airpods button in the airplay menu. It takes well
over a minute, but doing this will get the watch connected. Now stick that pod
in your ear and you're good to go until you get a notification on another
device for example. Then, it disconnects from the watch and jumps on to the
other device. And you're welcome to start over for the watch.
I have a ticket in with Accessibility. I thought they were ignoring it becaue
of some email I got indicating it ws closed, but it's not closed. My
recommendation would be to call in on the same issue because they said they
haven't had much feedback about using any of the watch series with VO. I'm sure
the newer watches are better simply because they respond faster, but htis watch
is supported as verified by the agent from Apple so they do expect it to
perform.
One more quick observation. The watch loses connection when another device gets
a notification etc. but this does not happen between the other devices.
I have a phone for home and one for work, plus an Ipad and a Mac. In those
cases, the new sound, including phone ringing, does not connect the second
device. It would probably be good to be able to control whether this happens or
not because obviously for VO users we get more sound from our devices than
sighted people, but they certainly get phone calls which should be treated
differently from a notification sound in most cases. But I would say I can
reproduce everything I've described here. When I can I'm going to the Apple
store to see what they say and to perhaps try the experience with the newer
tech since my phone is a 6 and a 6S+, my watch is first generation and my Ipad
is a little older too.

I'd think you can strap a fitBit device to the bike, and then use phone to

Re: Apple watch and Air Pods

2017-01-09 Thread Deb Lewis
So a couple of quick questions about the Edge? How many things can be
paired simultaneously? Does it always return to device 1 after
handling the second device info? That's what I thought would happen
here but clearly Apple is only actually connecting one device at a
time. Many are paired, but examining the bluetooth settings in each
device reveals that only one of them is connected. On the new devices
this might work better, but as I've already said, it doesn't with what
I have.

2017-01-09 Thread Richard Turner
There are higher end exercise bikes that have Bluetooth connectivity to
iPhones. How accessible the app is I don't know. I'd call around to some
stores that sell exercise equipment and find out which ones have Bluetooth and
see if you couldn't install the app and go to the store and test it out with
one of their floor models.

Of course, someone on this list may have one and will chime in.

With the survivor summit, the iPhone lays inside what seems like a
shallow box. The top of the case with the screen protector slides on
grooves inside the case. the two pieces lock the phone in place
snugly.

The last time I checked, Otterbox holds the iPhone in place with
clamps on each of the corners. If the iPhone wiggles a little, the
clamps will scratch the glass on the front of the iPhone.
