Google docs, google sheets and yoast

2017-06-11 Thread naturelovingmom
Hi all,

I have just been offered some freelance writing work, but because I take the
plunge, have a few questions.

First of all, google docs and google sheets will be used with this company. Are
they accessible with my ipad?

Also, we have to put our work through something cabbled yoast (it checks for
keywords, structure etc) and I'm wondering how accessible it is.

If anyone has any info on this, please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

If anyone here has used it, can you say how it compares with VoiceDream Reader?
That one also sounds pretty good.

RE: Musings about Sonos, their upcoming Alexa integration and the Homepod

2017-06-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Angie,

If you had a Connect which has 3 output options (RCA analogue, Toslink optical
and Coax Digital) you could buy any high-end Senheiser or other digital
wireless headset and use it that way. Some of the high end ones do have Optical
or Coax digital inputs which of course would give you the best sound quality.
Alternatively if you had a good quality headphone amp you could hook it up to
any one of these outputs on the Connect and then plug in any wired headphones
you may have.
I do happen to have several Connect players and could go this route, but have
always hesitated to see if Sonos won’t finally change their tune so to speak
and decide to make integrated audio file quality Sonos Headphones.
Now I am going to wait a bit more to see if you can connect to the new Apple
Homepod with bluetooth, typically bluetooth earphones are not quite as good as
a pair of high-end digital wireless headphones, but there are some pretty good
ones out there. I guess this would actually be another option to use a headset
with Sonos, buy a RCA or 3.5mm bluetooth dongle and plug it into the back of
the Connect and use any bluetooth headset you may already own. To be honest
quite often I just use it for listening to an audio book anyways so audio file
quality doesn’t really matter for that.
I am lucky in that I have one of the original Play 5 players which back in 2011
or 2012 when it came out was called the S5, it looks very similar to the older
Play 5 models since the newer ones now have those touch sensitive controls, but
mine has both a 3.5mm Line In which I think they still have nowadays, but it
also has a 3.5mm headphone jack or line out jack. I believe this was the only
player they ever made who has a headphone jack. When my Dad comes to visit (he
is hard of hearing) I plug in a set of basic headphones for him and then group
the S5 with my Playbar which then means he can listen to his german TV channels
using the headset without driving my Mom and me crazy because otherwise he
turns it up way loud.
I may have to look into this bluetooth dongle idea, it really only occurred to
me as I was writing this, but that might be a good option for me right now.
Have to check on Amazon, ideally I could find one that could plug into the
digital optical or Coax Digital output on one of my Connects.

Sieghard

Hi Sieghard

As to the Headphone thing: last time I looked on Sonos’ website the wording
suggests they aren’t interested in doing such a thing but of course that could
change in the future. I, like you, would like such a thing as Sonos headphones
or something similar. Do you know if there is any kind of Headphones which can
do this? I’ve not come across such and if there are not, then Sonos are
probably quite safe from that point of view.

Hi,

Just called Sonos to give some general feedback on the new Apple Homepod and
the recently announced capabilities of Airplay2 which will allow users who have
compatible Airplay devices to send music throughout the house similar to what
Sonos can do. I just wanted to give them the opinion of one of their loyal
customers because I have always thought the lack of native Airplay support once
Apple announced it is a mistake. Now I think so even more because people will
be able to buy all sorts of speakers at a number of price points from
relatively inexpensive to high-end and of course Apples own Homepod will I
think be a serious competitor to the Play 3 and Play 5 offering but it will
also be smart and while it may initially be not as smart as Alexa or Google
Home it will still be a lot smarter than a Play 3 or Play 5 which may have done
Kindergarten when it comes to smartness, but not much more.

In any case, during my call the Sonos rep told me that they are currently
focusing on Alexa integration so I guess those who do have an Amazon Echo as
well as one or more Sonos players can by the end of the year tell Alexa to
"Play the top hits of 1986 on Sonos Bedroom", not sure exact what one would
have to say and I guess it depends a bit on whether you use Spotify or another
service which you may have to specify in your command as well. This will add a
lot of third-party smartness to Sonos, but of course it benefits only customers
in the US and as far as I know the UK and Germany which are the only countries
where the Amazon Echo is officially available. I understand that quite a few
people here in Canada have an Amazon Echo, but I for one am not really
interested in bending over backwards to buy one in the first place and then
maybe do whatever else is required

RE: Problems with iTunes for Windows and new 7s

2017-06-11 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Denise,

Your previous message on this topic was successfully posted to the list.

For the most comprehensive list of steps in order to complete your desired
configuration, you should perform a Google search.

However, given that you already have iTunes on your PC, the broad steps, in
order to see your iCloud items in Outlook in Windows 10 are as follows:

1.
>From the Windows Start/search menu, type in the search string that begins with
>the word Apple. In the results list, you should see an item listed as Apple
>Software Update.

2.
Run the Apple software updater and select to install the Windows iCloud Control
Panel.

3.
Follow the prompts to install the control panel and then restart your computer.

4.
Upon restart, you will be given options in the iCloud control panel that will
allow you to configure iCloud with Microsoft Outlook.

Again, I strongly suggest that you search for how to configure the iCloud
control panel in Windows in order to get a very detailed list of step-by-step
instructions.

Good Luck,

Mark

Subject: Problems with iTunes for Windows and new 7s

Hello all,
I attempted to send this message before. I don’t know if it made it to the list.
In any case, I am having some problems with iTunes for Windows. I am running
the latest version of iTunes, and the latest version of windows 10.
When I go to my account under iTunes, it has my name and Apple id as being
unavailable. I have successfully authorized my computer, and I have signed
into iTunes, as I can see all of my purchased songs from I-Cloud.
Also, I maintained my contacts on my new phone. They are in I-cloud. But I
can’t seem to get them to sync with outlook. They definitely did when I had the
6s)+. I am running the latest version of JAWS. If anyone can be of assistance,
I would appreciate it. Thank you.

RE: Braille Authority of North America survey about proposed changes to UEB

Subject: Braille Authority of North America survey about proposed changes to UEB

I was just made aware of this survey. I know there are a lot of braille
readers out there, so am passing this along.

From: "Kim.Charlson--- via BANA-Announce"
Date: June 10, 2017 at 7:36:25 PM PDT
To:
Subject: [BANA-Announce] Survey on Quotation Marks & Apostrophes in UEB
Reply-To:
The UEB Code Maintenance Committee is seeking opinions on a possible change to
the representation of single quotation marks and apostrophes in UEB.

An explanatory document (in print and braille) and survey link are located on
the ICEB home page at www.iceb.org.

Please spread the word of the survey through your local listservs, social
media, newsletters, meetings and word-of-mouth.

It is important that we reach as many people as possible. Adults who read a lot
of electronic braille, adults who read mainly hard copy braille, teachers of
children learning braille and braille transcribers are all likely to hold
different opinions and their voices need to be heard. Moreover, there is a big
difference in the predominance of single quotation marks in print across
countries.

The survey will be open for the month of June.

The Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) of the International Council on English
Braille (ICEB) would like your input on possible changes to the braille
representation of single quotation marks and the apostrophe to facilitate
translation and reading on electronic braille devices. The explanatory document
gives an explanation of the problem and the options under consideration.
(Thanks to James Bowden, UK, and Leona Holloway, Australia, for their work on
this.)

After reading the information, please complete the survey at

www.surveymonkey.com/r/UEB-apostrophe [1]

to indicate your preference. The CMC will use the results of the survey to
guide their decision on this issue.

The survey will be available until the end of June. If necessary, this time
frame may be extended.

Please share this message with any colleagues who may be interested (with
apologies for all the cross-postings I hope this will generate).

Thanks for your attention to this issue.

With best regards,

Phyllis Landon

Anybody Used Capti Voice

2017-06-11 Thread Evan Reese
Has anybody here tried Capti Voice? It’s a reading app for iOS that you can use
for Bookshare among other things, and it’s free. The description sounds pretty
good.
If anyone here has used it, can you say how it compares with VoiceDream Reader?
That one also sounds pretty good.
Thanks.

Problems with iTunes for Windows and new 7s

2017-06-11 Thread denise avant
Hello all,

I attempted to send this message before. I don't know if it made it to the
list.

But I
can't seem to get them to sync with outlook. They definitely did when I had
the 6s)+. I am running the latest version of JAWS. If anyone can be of
assistance, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Itunes for windows - need assistance

2017-06-11 Thread denise avant
Hello all,

I have a windows 10 machine. I successfully signed into my account. However,
I'm having several problems.

First, under the accounts menu, it continues to show my name and account as
being dimmed.

Second, I just got the iPhone 7, and while all of my iCloud contacts are on
my phone, it seems I cannot get them to sync with my Windows 10 machine. I
was able to get them to sync before when I had the 6s_+. I was able to get
them in outlook, and now I cannot.

Can anyone make suggestions on any of these problems? Thanks.

Oh by the way, I am using JAWS 18 for a screen reader, and have the latest
version of windows.

Hello! Rebecca: I just found your email on the List concerning a good Bible app
with a braille display. I do not yet have a braille display. However, I have
found that one of the best Bible apps, is the "You Version Bible App. I use it
along with a few other Bible apps on my iPhone 6, and I think it's also useable
on the iPad if you choose to use it on that. It is very accessible with
voiceover. Hope this helps.

The survey will be open for the month of June.

The Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) of the International Council on English

representation of single quotation marks and the apostrophe to facilitate
translation and reading on electronic braille devices. The explanatory document
gives an explanation of the problem and the options under consideration.
(Thanks to James Bowden, UK, and Leona Holloway, Australia, for their work on
this.)

After reading the information, please complete the survey at

www.surveymonkey.com/r/UEB-apostrophe

to indicate your preference. The CMC will use the results of the survey to

Mary, I tried all day yesterday with no luck. Last night I had a sighted
person who is quite techy to do it for me. I was not at home so I couldn't
test Alexa until I got home. She is able to tell me if I have any events on a

access my calendar. I use my apple calendar for everything because it will
also appear on my husbands iPad, and, therefore, he has access to all of our

Re: Musings about Sonos, their upcoming Alexa integration and the Homepod

2017-06-11 Thread Angie Nutt

All the best
